2020-07-16treewide: Remove uninitialized_var() usageKees Cook1-1/+1
Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1] (or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings (e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized, either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes. In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining needless uses with the following script: git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \ xargs perl -pi -e \ 's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g; s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;' drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid pathological white-space. No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0 for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64, alpha, and m68k. 2020-06-09mm: don't include asm/pgtable.h if linux/mm.h is already includedMike Rapoport1-1/+0
Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2. The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported architectures. Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils down to, e.g. static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address) { return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1); } static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address) { return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address); } These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined. For architectures that really need a custom version there is always possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic. These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table accessors to the new header. This patch (of 12): The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h> in the files that include <linux/mm.h>. 2019-02-06regulator: fixed/gpio: Pull inversion/OD into gpiolibLinus Walleij1-1/+0
This pushes the handling of inversion semantics and open drain settings to the GPIO descriptor and gpiolib. All affected board files are also augmented. This is especially nice since we don't have to have any confusing flags passed around to the left and right littering the fixed and GPIO regulator drivers and the regulator core. It is all just very straight-forward: the core asks the GPIO line to be asserted or deasserted and gpiolib deals with the rest depending on how the platform is configured: if the line is active low, it deals with that, if the line is open drain, it deals with that too. 2018-09-17regulator: fixed: Convert to use GPIO descriptor onlyLinus Walleij1-7/+14
As we augmented the regulator core to accept a GPIO descriptor instead of a GPIO number, we can augment the fixed GPIO regulator to look up and pass that descriptor directly from device tree or board GPIO descriptor look up tables. Some boards just auto-enumerate their fixed regulator platform devices and I have assumed they get names like "fixed-regulator.0" but it's pretty hard to guess this. I need some testing from board maintainers to be sure. Other boards are straight forward, using just plain "fixed-regulator" (ID -1) or "fixed-regulator.1" hammering down the device ID. It seems the da9055 and da9211 has never got around to actually passing any enable gpio into its platform data (not the in-tree code anyway) so we can just decide to simply pass a descriptor instead. The fixed GPIO-controlled regulator in mach-pxa/ezx.c was confusingly named "*_dummy_supply_device" while it is a very real device backed by a GPIO line. There is nothing dummy about it at all, so I renamed it with the infix *_regulator_* as part of this patch set. Intel MID portions tested by Andy. 2013-12-12ARM: sa11x0: assabet: better reset handlingRussell King1-2/+133
The codec reset pin is connected to several peripherals. When the reset is released, unfortunately the ADV7171 powers itself up rather than remaining in power-down mode. As we don't have a driver for this device, we end up needlessly consuming an additional 330mW. Not only that but we should have a way to arbitrate the reset signal. This patch provides that facility: we program the ADV7171 to sleep mode whenever the reset is released, and we release the reset when any one of the three peripherals requests the reset to be released. This is dominated largely by the Samsung platforms (s3c, s5p, exynos) and a few of the others moving code out of arch/arm into more appropriate subsystems. The clocksource and irqchip drivers are now abstracted to the point where platforms that are already cleaned up do not need to even specify the driver they use, it can all get configured from the device tree as we do for normal device drivers. The clocksource changes basically touch every single platform in the process. We further clean up the use of platform specific header files here, with the goal of turning more of the platforms over to being "multiplatform" enabled, which implies that they cannot expose their headers to architecture independent code any more. On boot on Assabet, which this patch gives a codec id of 'ucb1x00', it gives: ucb1x00 ID not found: 1005 0x1005 is a valid ID for the UCB1300 device. Secondly, this patch is way over the top in terms of complexity. The only device which has been seen to be connected with this MCP code is the UCB1x00 (UCB1200, UCB1300 etc) devices, and they all use the same driver. Adding a match table, requiring the codec string to match the hardware ID read out of the ID register, etc is completely over the top when we can just read the hardware ID register.
