2022-07-17pagemap,pmem: introduce ->memory_failure()Shiyang Ruan1-0/+17
When memory-failure occurs, we call this function which is implemented by each kind of devices. For the fsdax case, pmem device driver implements it. Pmem device driver will find out the filesystem in which the corrupted page located in. With dax_holder notify support, we are able to notify the memory failure from pmem driver to upper layers. If there is something not support in the notify routine, memory_failure will fall back to the generic hanlder. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl Pull cxl updates from Dan Williams: "Compute Express Link (CXL) updates for this cycle. The highlight is new driver-core infrastructure and CXL subsystem changes for allowing lockdep to validate device_lock() usage. Thanks to PeterZ for setting me straight on the current capabilities of the lockdep API, and Greg acked it as well. On the CXL ACPI side this update adds support for CXL _OSC so that platform firmware knows that it is safe to still grant Linux native control of PCIe hotplug and error handling in the presence of CXL devices. A circular dependency problem was discovered between suspend and CXL memory for cases where the suspend image might be stored in CXL memory where that image also contains the PCI register state to restore to re-enable the device. Disable suspend for now until an architecture is defined to clarify that conflict. Lastly a collection of reworks, fixes, and cleanups to the CXL subsystem where support for snooping mailbox commands and properly handling the "mem_enable" flow are the highlights. Summary: - Add driver-core infrastructure for lockdep validation of device_lock(), and fixup a deadlock report that was previously hidden behind the 'lockdep no validate' policy. - Add CXL _OSC support for claiming native control of CXL hotplug and error handling. - Disable suspend in the presence of CXL memory unless and until a protocol is identified for restoring PCI device context from memory hosted on CXL PCI devices. - Add support for snooping CXL mailbox commands to protect against inopportune changes, like set-partition with the 'immediate' flag set. - Rework how the driver detects legacy CXL 1.1 configurations (CXL DVSEC / 'mem_enable') before enabling new CXL 2.0 decode configurations (CXL HDM Capability). - Miscellaneous cleanups and fixes from -next exposure" * tag 'cxl-for-5.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl: (47 commits) cxl/port: Enable HDM Capability after validating DVSEC Ranges cxl/port: Reuse 'struct cxl_hdm' context for hdm init cxl/port: Move endpoint HDM Decoder Capability init to port driver cxl/pci: Drop @info argument to cxl_hdm_decode_init() cxl/mem: Merge cxl_dvsec_ranges() and cxl_hdm_decode_init() cxl/mem: Skip range enumeration if mem_enable clear cxl/mem: Consolidate CXL DVSEC Range enumeration in the core cxl/pci: Move cxl_await_media_ready() to the core cxl/mem: Validate port connectivity before dvsec ranges cxl/mem: Fix cxl_mem_probe() error exit cxl/pci: Drop wait_for_valid() from cxl_await_media_ready() cxl/pci: Consolidate wait_for_media() and wait_for_media_ready() cxl/mem: Drop mem_enabled check from wait_for_media() nvdimm: Fix firmware activation deadlock scenarios device-core: Kill the lockdep_mutex nvdimm: Drop nd_device_lock() ACPI: NFIT: Drop nfit_device_lock() nvdimm: Replace lockdep_mutex with local lock classes cxl: Drop cxl_device_lock() cxl/acpi: Add root device lockdep validation ...
2022-05-16pmem: implement pmem_recovery_write()Jane Chu1-8/+79
The recovery write thread started out as a normal pwrite thread and when the filesystem was told about potential media error in the range, filesystem turns the normal pwrite to a dax_recovery_write. The recovery write consists of clearing media poison, clearing page HWPoison bit, reenable page-wide read-write permission, flush the caches and finally write. A competing pread thread will be held off during the recovery process since data read back might not be valid, and this is achieved by clearing the badblock records after the recovery write is complete. Competing recovery write threads are already serialized by writer lock held by dax_iomap_rw(). 2022-05-16dax: add .recovery_write dax_operationJane Chu1-0/+7
Introduce dax_recovery_write() operation. The function is used to recover a dax range that contains poison. Typical use case is when a user process receives a SIGBUS with si_code BUS_MCEERR_AR indicating poison(s) in a dax range, in response, the user process issues a pwrite() to the page-aligned dax range, thus clears the poison and puts valid data in the range. 2022-05-16dax: introduce DAX_RECOVERY_WRITE dax access modeJane Chu1-3/+5
Up till now, dax_direct_access() is used implicitly for normal access, but for the purpose of recovery write, dax range with poison is requested. To make the interface clear, introduce enum dax_access_mode { DAX_ACCESS, DAX_RECOVERY_WRITE, } where DAX_ACCESS is used for normal dax access, and DAX_RECOVERY_WRITE is used for dax recovery write. 2022-05-16mce: fix set_mce_nospec to always unmap the whole pageJane Chu1-23/+7
The set_memory_uc() approach doesn't work well in all cases. As Dan pointed out when "The VMM unmapped the bad page from guest physical space and passed the machine check to the guest." "The guest gets virtual #MC on an access to that page. When the guest tries to do set_memory_uc() and instructs cpa_flush() to do clean caches that results in taking another fault / exception perhaps because the VMM unmapped the page from the guest." Since the driver has special knowledge to handle NP or UC, mark the poisoned page with NP and let driver handle it when it comes down to repair. Please refer to discussions here for more details. https://lore.kernel.org/all/CAPcyv4hrXPb1tASBZUg-GgdVs0OOFKXMXLiHmktg_kFi7YBMyQ@mail.gmail.com/ Now since poisoned page is marked as not-present, in order to avoid writing to a not-present page and trigger kernel Oops, also fix pmem_do_write(). 2021-10-25nvdimm/pmem: stop using q_usage_count as external pgmap refcountChristoph Hellwig1-31/+2
Originally all DAX access when through block_device operations and thus needed a queue reference. But since commit cccbce671582 ("filesystem-dax: convert to dax_direct_access()") all this happens at the DAX device level which uses its own refcounting. Having the external refcount thus wasn't needed but has otherwise been harmless for long time. But now that "block: drain file system I/O on del_gendisk" waits for q_usage_count to reach 0 in del_gendisk this whole scheme can't work anymore (and pmem is the only driver abusing q_usage_count like that). So switch to the internal reference and remove the unbalanced blk_freeze_queue_start that is taken care of by del_gendisk. 2021-10-18block: switch polling to be bio basedChristoph Hellwig1-2/+1
Replace the blk_poll interface that requires the caller to keep a queue and cookie from the submissions with polling based on the bio. Polling for the bio itself leads to a few advantages: - the cookie construction can made entirely private in blk-mq.c - the caller does not need to remember the request_queue and cookie separately and thus sidesteps their lifetime issues - keeping the device and the cookie inside the bio allows to trivially support polling BIOs remapping by stacking drivers - a lot of code to propagate the cookie back up the submission path can be removed entirely. 2021-04-08libnvdimm: Notify disk drivers to revalidate region read-onlyDan Williams1-4/+33
Previous kernels allowed the BLKROSET to override the disk's read-only status. With that situation fixed the pmem driver needs to rely on notification events to reevaluate the disk read-only status after the host region has been marked read-write. Recall that when libnvdimm determines that the persistent memory has lost persistence (for example lack of energy to flush from DRAM to FLASH on an NVDIMM-N device) it marks the region read-only, but that state can be overridden by the user via: echo 0 > /sys/bus/nd/devices/regionX/read_only ...to date there is no notification that the region has restored persistence, so the user override is the only recovery. 2020-10-13mm/memremap_pages: convert to 'struct range'Dan Williams1-12/+14
The 'struct resource' in 'struct dev_pagemap' is only used for holding resource span information. The other fields, 'name', 'flags', 'desc', 'parent', 'sibling', and 'child' are all unused wasted space. This is in preparation for introducing a multi-range extension of devm_memremap_pages(). The bulk of this change is unwinding all the places internal to libnvdimm that used 'struct resource' unnecessarily, and replacing instances of 'struct dev_pagemap'.res with 'struct dev_pagemap'.range. P2PDMA had a minor usage of the resource flags field, but only to report failures with "%pR". That is replaced with an open coded print of the range. 2020-10-06x86, powerpc: Rename memcpy_mcsafe() to copy_mc_to_{user, kernel}()Dan Williams1-3/+3
In reaction to a proposal to introduce a memcpy_mcsafe_fast() implementation Linus points out that memcpy_mcsafe() is poorly named relative to communicating the scope of the interface. Specifically what addresses are valid to pass as source, destination, and what faults / exceptions are handled. Of particular concern is that even though x86 might be able to handle the semantics of copy_mc_to_user() with its common copy_user_generic() implementation other archs likely need / want an explicit path for this case: On Fri, May 1, 2020 at 11:28 AM Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> wrote: > > On Thu, Apr 30, 2020 at 6:21 PM Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com> wrote: > > > > However now I see that copy_user_generic() works for the wrong reason. > > It works because the exception on the source address due to poison > > looks no different than a write fault on the user address to the > > caller, it's still just a short copy. Replace a single top-level memcpy_mcsafe() with either copy_mc_to_user(), or copy_mc_to_kernel(). Introduce an x86 copy_mc_fragile() name as the rename for the low-level x86 implementation formerly named memcpy_mcsafe(). It is used as the slow / careful backend that is supplanted by a fast copy_mc_generic() in a follow-on patch. One side-effect of this reorganization is that separating copy_mc_64.S to its own file means that perf no longer needs to track dependencies for its memcpy_64.S benchmarks. Simplify this by just calling nvdimm_revalidate_disk (which seems rather misnamed) from the probe routines, as the additional bdev size revalidation is pointless at this point, and remove the revalidate_disk methods given that it can only be triggered from add_disk, which is right before the manual calls. 2020-08-14mm: add thp_sizeMatthew Wilcox (Oracle)1-4/+2
This function returns the number of bytes in a THP. It is like page_size(), but compiles to just PAGE_SIZE if CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is disabled. 2020-07-01block: move ->make_request_fn to struct block_device_operationsChristoph Hellwig1-2/+3
The make_request_fn is a little weird in that it sits directly in struct request_queue instead of an operation vector. Replace it with a block_device_operations method called submit_bio (which describes much better what it does). Also remove the request_queue argument to it, as the queue can be derived pretty trivially from the bio. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>

2020-06-08asm-generic: don't include <linux/mm.h> in cacheflush.hChristoph Hellwig1-1/+2
This seems to lead to some crazy include loops when using asm-generic/cacheflush.h on more architectures, so leave it to the arch header for now.
