2022-11-25wifi: carl9170: Replace zero-length array of trailing structs with flex-arrayKees Cook1-2/+2
Zero-length arrays are deprecated[1] and are being replaced with flexible array members in support of the ongoing efforts to tighten the FORTIFY_SOURCE routines on memcpy(), correctly instrument array indexing with UBSAN_BOUNDS, and to globally enable -fstrict-flex-arrays=3. Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member. This results in no differences in binary output. GCC-12 emits false positive -Warray-bounds warnings with CONFIG_UBSAN_SHIFT (-fsanitize=shift). This is fixed in GCC 13[1], and there is top-level Makefile logic to remove -Warray-bounds for known-bad GCC versions staring with commit f0be87c42cbd ("gcc-12: disable '-Warray-bounds' universally for now"). Remove the local work-around. 2022-10-10wifi: mac80211: add wake_tx_queue callback to driversAlexander Wetzel1-0/+1
mac80211 is fully switching over to the internal TX queue (iTXQ) implementation. Update all drivers not yet providing the now mandatory wake_tx_queue() callback. As an side effect the netdev interfaces of all updated drivers will switch to the noqueue qdisc. carl9170 has a big union (struct carl9170_cmd) with all the command types in it. But it allocates buffers only large enough for a given command. 2022-05-02carl9170: tx: fix an incorrect use of list iteratorXiaomeng Tong1-0/+3
If the previous list_for_each_entry_continue_rcu() don't exit early (no goto hit inside the loop), the iterator 'cvif' after the loop will be a bogus pointer to an invalid structure object containing the HEAD (&ar->vif_list). As a result, the use of 'cvif' after that will lead to a invalid memory access (i.e., 'cvif->id': the invalid pointer dereference when return back to/after the callsite in the carl9170_update_beacon()). The original intention should have been to return the valid 'cvif' when found in list, NULL otherwise. So just return NULL when no entry found, to fix this bug. 2022-04-11mac80211: prepare sta handling for MLO supportSriram R2-6/+7
Currently in mac80211 each STA object is represented using sta_info datastructure with the associated STA specific information and drivers access ieee80211_sta part of it. With MLO (Multi Link Operation) support being added in 802.11be standard, though the association is logically with a single Multi Link capable STA, at the physical level communication can happen via different advertised links (uniquely identified by Channel, operating class, BSSID) and hence the need to handle multiple link STA parameters within a composite sta_info object called the MLD STA. The different link STA part of MLD STA are identified using the link address which can be same or different as the MLD STA address and unique link id based on the link vif. To support extension of such a model, the sta_info datastructure is modified to hold multiple link STA objects with link specific params currently within sta_info moved to this new structure. Similarly this is done for ieee80211_sta as well which will be accessed within mac80211 as well as by drivers, hence trivial driver changes are expected to support this. For current non MLO supported drivers, only one link STA is present and link information is accessed via 'deflink' member. For MLO drivers, we still need to define the APIs etc. to get the correct link ID and access the correct part of the station info. Currently in mac80211, all link STA info are accessed directly via deflink. These will be updated to access via link pointers indexed by link id with MLO support patches, with link id being 0 for non MLO supported cases. There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. 2022-01-31carl9170: fix missing bit-wise or operator for tx_paramsColin Ian King1-1/+1
Currently tx_params is being re-assigned with a new value and the previous setting IEEE80211_HT_MCS_TX_RX_DIFF is being overwritten. The assignment operator is incorrect, the original intent was to bit-wise or the value in. Fix this by replacing the = operator with |= instead. Use 'bitmap_zalloc()' to simplify code, improve the semantic and avoid some open-coded arithmetic in allocator arguments. Note, that this 'bitmap_zalloc()' divides by BITS_PER_LONG the amount of memory allocated. The 'roundup()' used to computed the number of needed long should have been a DIV_ROUND_UP. Also change the corresponding 'kfree()' into 'bitmap_free()' to keep consistency. Use 'bitmap_zero()' to avoid hand writing it. 2021-11-26mac80211: Use memset_after() to clear tx statusKees Cook1-6/+6
In preparation for FORTIFY_SOURCE performing compile-time and run-time field bounds checking for memset(), avoid intentionally writing across neighboring fields. Use memset_after() so memset() doesn't get confused about writing beyond the destination member that is intended to be the starting point of zeroing through the end of the struct. Additionally fix the common helper, ieee80211_tx_info_clear_status(), which was not clearing ack_signal, but the open-coded versions did. Johannes Berg points out this bug was introduced by commit e3e1a0bcb3f1 ("mac80211: reduce IEEE80211_TX_MAX_RATES") but was harmless. Also drops the associated unneeded BUILD_BUG_ON()s, and adds a note to carl9170 about usage. Multiple structures in the carl9170 driver have alignment impossible alignment constraints that gcc warns about when building with 'make W=1': drivers/net/wireless/ath/carl9170/fwcmd.h:243:2: warning: alignment 1 of 'union <anonymous>' is less than 4 [-Wpacked-not-aligned] drivers/net/wireless/ath/carl9170/wlan.h:373:1: warning: alignment 1 of 'struct ar9170_rx_frame_single' is less than 2 [-Wpacked-not-aligned] In the carl9170_cmd structure, multiple members that have an explicit alignment requirement of four bytes are added into a union with explicit byte alignment, but this in turn is part of a structure that also has four-byte alignment. In the wlan.h header, multiple structures contain a ieee80211_hdr member that is required to be two-byte aligned to avoid alignmnet faults when processing network headers, but all members are forced to be byte-aligned using the __packed tag at the end of the struct definition. In both cases, leaving out the packing does not change the internal layout of the structure but changes the alignment constraint of the structure itself. Change all affected structures to only apply packing where it does not violate the alignment requirement of the contained structure. 2020-05-12carl9170: Replace zero-length array with flexible-arrayGustavo A. R. Silva2-2/+2
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues. This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. There really is no need to make drivers call the ieee80211_start_tx_ba_cb_irqsafe() function and then schedule the worker if all we want is to set a bit. Add a new return value (that was previously considered invalid) to indicate that the driver is immediately ready for the session, and make drivers use it. The only drivers that remain different are the Intel ones as they need to negotiate more with the firmware. This patch removes the error branch for (queue > ar->hw->queues). It is no longer needed anymore as the "queue" value is validated by cfg80211's parse_txq_params() before the driver code gets called. Some background: In the old days (linux 2.6 and early 3.x), the parse_txq_params() function did not verify the "queue" value. That's why these drivers had to do it. This patch follows Alan Stern's recent patch: "p54: Fix race between disconnect and firmware loading" that overhauled carl9170 buggy firmware loading and driver unbinding procedures. Since the carl9170 code was adapted from p54 it uses the same functions and is likely to have the same problem, but it's just that the syzbot hasn't reproduce them (yet). a summary from the changes (copied from the p54 patch): * Call usb_driver_release_interface() rather than device_release_driver(). * Lock udev (the interface's parent) before unbinding the driver instead of locking udev->parent. * During the firmware loading process, take a reference to the USB interface instead of the USB device. * Don't take an unnecessary reference to the device during probe (and then don't drop it during disconnect). and * Make sure to prevent use-after-free bugs by explicitly setting the driver context to NULL after signaling the completion.
