This driver was used on Arm and SH machines until 2009, when the last platforms moved to the smsc911x driver for the same hardware. Time to retire this version. Commit 744d23c71af3 ("net: phy: Warn about incorrect mdio_bus_phy_resume() state") unveiled that the smsc911x driver was not properly stopping and restarting the PHY during suspend/resume. Correct that by indicating that the MAC is in charge of PHY PM operations and ensure that all MDIO bus activity is quiescent during suspend. 2022-05-03smsc911x: allow using IRQ0Sergey Shtylyov1-1/+1
The AlphaProject AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A SH boards use IRQ0 for their SMSC LAN911x Ethernet chip, so the networking on them must have been broken by commit 965b2aa78fbc ("net/smsc911x: fix irq resource allocation failure") which filtered out 0 as well as the negative error codes -- it was kinda correct at the time, as platform_get_irq() could return 0 on of_irq_get() failure and on the actual 0 in an IRQ resource. This issue was fixed by me (back in 2016!), so we should be able to fix this driver to allow IRQ0 usage again... When merging this to the stable kernels, make sure you also merge commit e330b9a6bb35 ("platform: don't return 0 from platform_get_irq[_byname]() on error") -- that's my fix to platform_get_irq() for the DT platforms... To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. Currently the smsc911x driver has mininal power management: during driver probe, the device is powered up, and during driver remove, it is powered down. Improve power management by making it more fine-grained: 1. Power the device down when driver probe is finished, 2. Power the device (down) when it is opened (closed), 3. Make sure the device is powered during PHY access. The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'smsc9420_probe()', GFP_KERNEL can be used because it is a probe function and no lock is acquired. While at it, rewrite the size passed to 'dma_alloc_coherent()' the same way as the one passed to 'dma_free_coherent()'.
