2022-07-05drm: Remove linux/fb.h from drm_crtc.hVille Syrjälä1-0/+1
drm_crtc.h has no need for linux/fb.h, so don't include it. Avoids useless rebuilds of the entire universe when touching linux/fb.h. Quite a few placs do currently depend on linux/fb.h or other headers pulled in by it without actually including any of it directly. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart1-1/+1
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. 2019-09-08drm/bridge: panel: Infer connector type from panel by defaultLaurent Pinchart1-1/+2
The drm panel bridge creates a connector using a connector type explicitly passed by the display controller or bridge driver that instantiates the panel bridge. Now that drm_panel reports its connector type, we can use it to avoid passing an explicit (and often incorrect) connector type to drm_panel_bridge_add() and devm_drm_panel_bridge_add(). Several drivers report incorrect or unknown connector types to userspace. Reporting a different type may result in a breakage. For that reason, rename (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() to (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add_typed(), and add new (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() functions that use the panel connector type. Update all callers of (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() to the _typed function, they will be converted one by one after testing. 2018-08-27drm/atmel-hlcdc: support bus-width (12/16/18/24) in endpoint nodesPeter Rosin1-8/+69
This beats the heuristic that the connector is involved in what format should be output for cases where this fails. E.g. if there is a bridge that changes format between the encoder and the connector, or if some of the RGB pins between the lcd controller and the encoder are not routed on the PCB. This is critical for the devices that have the "conflicting output formats" issue (SAM9N12, SAM9X5, SAMA5D3), since the most significant RGB bits move around depending on the selected output mode. For devices that do not have the "conflicting output formats" issue (SAMA5D2, SAMA5D4), this is completely irrelevant. This enables more flexible devicetrees. You can e.g. have two output nodes where one is not enabled, without the ordering affecting things. Prior to this patch the active nodes had to have endpoint id zero and upwards consecutively. drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() is expecting np to point to the encoder node, not the bridge or panel this encoder is feeding. Moreover, the endpoint parameter passed to drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() is always set to zero, which prevents us from probing all outputs. We also move the atmel_hlcdc_rgb_output allocation after the panel/bridge detection to avoid useless allocations. Similar to the previous commit, convert drivers open coding OF graph parsing to use drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge instead. This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core). Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a DT validator. In order to support multiple outputs we need to move the output mode selection to the CRTC object, so that the output validity check can be done against the drm_atomic_state. If the connectors selected by a specific mode setting are requiring incompatible bus format the atomic operation is aborted (->atomic_check() returns -EINVAL). In order to implement that, we need to define our own CRTC state and overload default ->reset(), ->atomic_duplicate_state() and ->atomic_destroy_state() functions. 2015-01-21drm: add Atmel HLCDC Display Controller supportBoris Brezillon1-0/+319
The Atmel HLCDC (HLCD Controller) IP available on some Atmel SoCs (i.e. at91sam9n12, at91sam9x5 family or sama5d3 family) provides a display controller device. This display controller supports at least one primary plane and might provide several overlays and an hardware cursor depending on the IP version. At the moment, this driver only implements an RGB connector to interface with LCD panels, but support for other kind of external devices might be added later.
