2017-08-24scsi: cciss: Drop obsolete driverHannes Reinecke1-5415/+0
The hpsa driver now has support for all boards the cciss driver used to support, so this patch removes the cciss driver and make hpsa an alias to cciss. 2017-07-06cciss: initialize struct scsi_reqChristoph Hellwig1-0/+8
The changes in "block: Make most scsi_req_init() calls implicit" mean that every driver that supports the generic scsi ioctls needs to call scsi_req_init on newly allocated requests, but that commit didn't add the call to the ccіss driver. Fix that to avoid crashes when udev issues SG_IO commands. Fixes: ca18d6f7 ("block: Make most scsi_req_init() calls implicit") Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Reported-by: Meelis Roos <mroos@linux.ee> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2017-06-09block: introduce new block status code typeChristoph Hellwig1-1/+2
Currently we use nornal Linux errno values in the block layer, and while we accept any error a few have overloaded magic meanings. This patch instead introduces a new blk_status_t value that holds block layer specific status codes and explicitly explains their meaning. Helpers to convert from and to the previous special meanings are provided for now, but I suspect we want to get rid of them in the long run - those drivers that have a errno input (e.g. networking) usually get errnos that don't know about the special block layer overloads, and similarly returning them to userspace will usually return somethings that strictly speaking isn't correct for file system operations, but that's left as an exercise for later. For now the set of errors is a very limited set that closely corresponds to the previous overloaded errno values, but there is some low hanging fruite to improve it. blk_status_t (ab)uses the sparse __bitwise annotations to allow for sparse typechecking, so that we can easily catch places passing the wrong values. 2017-06-01block: Introduce queue flag QUEUE_FLAG_SCSI_PASSTHROUGHBart Van Assche1-0/+1
From the context where a SCSI command is submitted it is not always possible to figure out whether or not the queue the command is submitted to has struct scsi_request as the first member of its private data. Hence introduce the flag QUEUE_FLAG_SCSI_PASSTHROUGH. 2017-04-20scsi: introduce a result field in struct scsi_requestChristoph Hellwig1-21/+21
This passes on the scsi_cmnd result field to users of passthrough requests. Currently we abuse req->errors for this purpose, but that field will go away in its current form. Note that the old IDE code abuses the errors field in very creative ways and stores all kinds of different values in it. I didn't dare to touch this magic, so the abuses are brought forward 1:1. 2017-01-31block: fold cmd_type into the REQ_OP_ spaceChristoph Hellwig1-4/+9
Instead of keeping two levels of indirection for requests types, fold it all into the operations. The little caveat here is that previously cmd_type only applied to struct request, while the request and bio op fields were set to plain REQ_OP_READ/WRITE even for passthrough operations. Instead this patch adds new REQ_OP_* for SCSI passthrough and driver private requests, althought it has to add two for each so that we can communicate the data in/out nature of the request. 2017-01-31block: introduce blk_rq_is_passthroughChristoph Hellwig1-18/+18

2013-09-11cciss: set max scatter gather entries to 32 on P600Mike Miller1-0/+7
At one time we used to set the maximum number of scatter gather elements on all Smart Array controllers to 32. At some point in time the firmware began to write the "appropriate" value for each controller into the config table. The cciss driver would then read that and set h->maxsgentries. h->maxsgentries = readl(&(h->cfgtable->MaxSGElements); On the P600 that value is 544. Under some workloads a significant performance reduction may result. This patch forces the P600 to use only 32 scatter gather elements. Other controllers are not affected. 2013-06-12cciss: fix broken mutex usage in ioctlStephen M. Cameron1-16/+16

It attempts to acquire the same mutex twice, once in do_ioctl() and once in cciss_unlocked_open(). The BKL was recursive, the mutex isn't. Linux version 3.10.0-rc2 (scameron@localhost.localdomain) (gcc version 4.4.7 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-3) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Fri May 24 14:32:12 CDT 2013 [...] acu D 0000000000000001 0 3246 3191 0x00000080 Call Trace: schedule+0x29/0x70 schedule_preempt_disabled+0xe/0x10 __mutex_lock_slowpath+0x17b/0x220 mutex_lock+0x2b/0x50 cciss_unlocked_open+0x2f/0x110 [cciss] __blkdev_get+0xd3/0x470 blkdev_get+0x5c/0x1e0 register_disk+0x182/0x1a0 add_disk+0x17c/0x310 cciss_add_disk+0x13a/0x170 [cciss] cciss_update_drive_info+0x39b/0x480 [cciss] rebuild_lun_table+0x258/0x370 [cciss] cciss_ioctl+0x34f/0x470 [cciss] do_ioctl+0x49/0x70 [cciss] __blkdev_driver_ioctl+0x28/0x30 blkdev_ioctl+0x200/0x7b0 block_ioctl+0x3c/0x40 do_vfs_ioctl+0x89/0x350 SyS_ioctl+0xa1/0xb0 system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b This mutex usage was added into the ioctl path when the big kernel lock was removed. 2013-04-29cciss: bug fix to prevent cciss from loading in kdump crash kernelMike Miller1-0/+10
By default the cciss driver supports all "older" HP Smart Array controllers and hpsa supports all controllers starting with the G6 family. There are module parameters that allow a user to override those defaults and use hpsa for any HP Smart Array controller. If the user does override the default behavior and uses hpsa for older controllers it is possible that cciss may try to load in a kdump crash kernel. This may happen if cciss is loaded first from the kdump initrd image. If cciss does load rather than hpsa and reset_devices is true we immediately call cciss_hard_reset_controller. This will result in a kernel panic and the core file cannot be created. This patch prevents cciss from trying to load in this scenario. 2012-01-14block: add and use scsi_blk_cmd_ioctlPaolo Bonzini1-3/+3
Introduce a wrapper around scsi_cmd_ioctl that takes a block device. The function will then be enhanced to detect partition block devices and, in that case, subject the ioctls to whitelisting. 2011-11-28cciss: fix flush cache transfer lengthStephen M. Cameron1-0/+2
We weren't filling in the transfer length of the flush cache command (it transfers 4 bytes of zeroes). Firmware didn't seem to be bothered by this, but it should be fixed. Signed-off-by: Stephen M. Cameron <scameron@beardog.cce.hp.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2011-11-28cciss: Add IRQF_SHARED back in for the non-MSI(X) interrupt handlerStephen M. Cameron1-2/+2
IRQF_SHARED is required for older controllers that don't support MSI(X) and which may end up sharing an interrupt. Also remove deprecated IRQF_DISABLED. Signed-off-by: Stephen M. Cameron <scameron@beardog.cce.hp.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2011-11-16cciss: auto engage SCSI mid layer at driver load timeStephen M. Cameron1-0/+1
A long time ago, probably in 2002, one of the distros, or maybe more than one, loaded block drivers prior to loading the SCSI mid layer. This meant that the cciss driver, being a block driver, could not engage the SCSI mid layer at init time without panicking, and relied on being poked by a userland program after the system was up (and the SCSI mid layer was therefore present) to engage the SCSI mid layer. This is no longer the case, and cciss can safely rely on the SCSI mid layer being present at init time and engage the SCSI mid layer straight away. This means that users will see their tape drives and medium changers at driver load time without need for a script in /etc/rc.d that does this: for x in /proc/driver/cciss/cciss* do echo "engage scsi" > $x done However, if no tape drives or medium changers are detected, the SCSI mid layer will not be engaged. If a tape drive or medium change is later hot-added to the system it will then be necessary to use the above script or similar for the device(s) to be acceesible. Signed-off-by: Stephen M. 2011-10-20cciss: add small delay when using PCI Power Management to reset for kumpMike Miller1-0/+7
The P600 requires a small delay when changing states. Otherwise we may think the board did not reset and we bail. This for kdump only and is particular to the P600. Cc: stable@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>

2011-05-06cciss: add cciss_tape_cmds module paramterStephen M. Cameron1-1/+10
This is to allow number of commands reserved for use by SCSI tape drives and medium changers to be adjusted at driver load time via the kernel parameter cciss_tape_cmds, with a default value of 6, and a range of 2 - 16 inclusive. Previously, the driver limited the number of commands which could be queued to the SCSI half of the the driver to only 2. This is to fix the problem that if you had more than two tape drives, you couldn't, for example, erase or rewind them all at the same time. Signed-off-by: Stephen M.
