2022-03-17ARM: remove support for NOMMU ARMv4/v5Arnd Bergmann2-41/+1
It is possible to build MMU-less kernels for Cortex-M base microcrontrollers as well as a couple of older platforms that have not been converted to CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM, specifically ep93xx, footbridge, dove, sa1100 and s3c24xx. It seems unlikely that anybody has tested those configurations in recent years, as even building them is frequently broken. A patch I submitted caused another build time regression in this configuration. I sent a patch for that, but it seems better to also remove the option entirely, leaving ARMv7-M as the only supported Arm NOMMU target for simplicity. A couple of platforms have dependencies on CONFIG_MMU, those can all be removed now. Notably, mach-integrator tries to support MMU-less CPU cores, but those have not actually been selectable for a long time. This addresses several build failures in randconfig builds that have accumulated over the years. 2020-05-05clk: versatile: Rework kconfig structureRob Herring1-1/+0
CONFIG_COMMON_CLK_VERSATILE doesn't really do anything other than hiding Arm Ltd reference platform clock drivers. It is both selected by the platforms that need it and has a 'depends on' for those platforms. Let's drop the selects and convert CONFIG_COMMON_CLK_VERSATILE into a menuconfig entry. With this make CONFIG_ICST visible. Move the 'select REGMAP_MMIO' to the drivers that require it (SP810 did not). This also has the side effect of enabling CONFIG_ICST for COMPILE_TEST as it was not visible before. 2020-04-28ARM: integrator: Add some Kconfig selectionsLinus Walleij1-3/+4
The CMA and DMA_CMA Kconfig options need to be selected by the Integrator in order to produce boot console on some Integrator systems. The REGULATOR and REGULATOR_FIXED_VOLTAGE need to be selected in order to boot the system from an external MMC card when using MMCI/PL181 from the device tree probe path. One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct foo { int stuff; void *entry[]; }; instance = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(struct foo) + sizeof(void *) * count, GFP_KERNEL); Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now use the new struct_size() helper: instance = devm_kzalloc(dev, struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL); This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle. devm_kzalloc(), devm_kstrdup() and devm_kasprintf() all can fail internal allocation and return NULL. Using any of the assigned objects without checking is not safe. As this is early in the boot phase and these allocations really should not fail, any failure here is probably an indication of a more serious issue so it makes little sense to try and rollback the previous allocated resources or try to continue; but rather the probe function is simply exited with -ENOMEM. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman6-0/+6
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Many ARM sub-architectures use prompts followed by "if" conditional, but it is wrong. Please notice the difference between config ARCH_FOO bool "Foo SoCs" if ARCH_MULTI_V7 and config ARCH_FOO bool "Foo SoCs" depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7 These two are *not* equivalent! In the former statement, it is not ARCH_FOO, but its prompt that depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7. So, it is completely valid that ARCH_FOO is selected by another, but ARCH_MULTI_V7 is still disabled. As it is not unmet dependency, Kconfig never warns. This is probably not what you want. The former should be used only when you need to do so, and you really understand what you are doing. (In most cases, it should be wrong!) For enabling/disabling sub-architectures, the latter is always correct. As a good side effect, this commit fixes some entries over 80 columns (mach-imx, mach-integrator, mach-mbevu). Convert the integrator PCI driver to use the generic config access functions. This changes accesses from __raw_readX/__raw_writeX to readX/writeX variants. The spinlock is removed because it is unnecessary. The config read and write functions are already protected with a spinlock and no access can occur during the .pre_init function. Using the augmented reset driver for the Versatile family, we can move the reset handling for the Integrator out of the machine. We add a "syscon" attribute to the core module, and access the syscon registers using this handle. We need to select SYSCON, POWER, POWER_RESET and POWER_RESET_VERSATILE in order for the restart functionality to always be available on all systems (it should not be optional).
