Add -lstdc++ to perf when linking libopencsd as it is a dependency. It

The definition is derived from pkg-config as discussed in:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20210610155915.20a252d3@oasis.local.home/
The definition is computed using expr rather than passed to be computed
in C code, this avoids complications with quote in the variable
expansions.
For example see the target python/perf.so in Makefile.perf.

Currently libtracefs isn't used by perf, but there are potential
improvements by using it as identified Steven Rostedt's e-mail:

This change is modelled on the dynamic libtraceevent patch by Michael

Some distributions, like debian, don't link perf with libbfd. Add a
build flag to make this configuration buildable and testable.

When build perf tool with passing option 'CORESIGHT=1' explicitly, if
the feature test fails for library libopencsd, the build doesn't
complain the feature failure and continue to build the tool with
disabling the CoreSight feature insteadly.
This patch changes the building behaviour, when build perf tool with the
option 'CORESIGHT=1' and detect the failure for testing feature
libopencsd, the build process will be aborted and it shows the complaint
info.
Committer testing:
First make sure there is no opencsd library installed:
$ rpm -qa | grep -i csd
$ sudo rm -rf `find /usr/local -name "*csd*"`
$ find /usr/local -name "*csd*"
$
Then cleanup the perf build output directory:
$ rm -rf /tmp/build/perf ; mkdir -p /tmp/build/perf ;
$
And try to build explicitely asking for coresight:
$ make O=/tmp/build/perf CORESIGHT=1 O=/tmp/build/perf -C tools/perf install-bin
make: Entering directory '/var/home/acme/git/perf/tools/perf'
BUILD: Doing 'make -j24' parallel build
HOSTCC /tmp/build/perf/fixdep.o
HOSTLD /tmp/build/perf/fixdep-in.o
LINK /tmp/build/perf/fixdep
Makefile.config:493: *** Error: No libopencsd library found or the version is not up-to-date. Please install recent libopencsd to build with CORESIGHT=1. Stop.
make[1]: *** [Makefile.perf:238: sub-make] Error 2
make: *** [Makefile:113: install-bin] Error 2
make: Leaving directory '/var/home/acme/git/perf/tools/perf'
$
Now install the opencsd library present in Fedora 34:
$ sudo dnf install opencsd-devel
<SNIP>
Installed:
opencsd-1.0.0-1.fc34.x86_64 opencsd-devel-1.0.0-1.fc34.x86_64
Complete!
$
Try again building with coresight:
$ make O=/tmp/build/perf CORESIGHT=1 O=/tmp/build/perf -C tools/perf install-bin
make: Entering directory '/var/home/acme/git/perf/tools/perf'
BUILD: Doing 'make -j24' parallel build
Makefile.config:493: *** Error: No libopencsd library found or the version is not up-to-date. Please install recent libopencsd to build with CORESIGHT=1. Stop.
make[1]: *** [Makefile.perf:238: sub-make] Error 2
make: *** [Makefile:113: install-bin] Error 2
make: Leaving directory '/var/home/acme/git/perf/tools/perf'
$
Since Fedora 34 is pretty recent, one assumes we need to get it from its
upstream git repository, use rpm to find where that is:
$ rpm -q --qf "%{URL}\n" opencsd
https://github.com/Linaro/OpenCSD
$
Go there, clone the repo, build it and install into /usr/local, then try
again:
$ cd ~acme/git/perf
$ make O=/tmp/build/perf VF=1 CORESIGHT=1 O=/tmp/build/perf -C tools/perf install-bin | grep -i opencsd
... libopencsd: [ on ]
PERF_VERSION = 5.14.g454719f67a3d
$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib
$ ldd ~/bin/perf | grep opencsd
libopencsd_c_api.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libopencsd_c_api.so.1 (0x00007f28f78a4000)
libopencsd.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libopencsd.so.1 (0x00007f28f6a2e000)
$
Now it works.

When setting LIBUNWIND_DIR, we first set
FEATURE_CHECK_LDFLAGS-libunwind-{aarch64,x86} = -L$(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/lib.
<committer note>
This happens a bit before, the overwritting, in:
libunwind_arch_set_flags = $(eval $(libunwind_arch_set_flags_code))
define libunwind_arch_set_flags_code
FEATURE_CHECK_CFLAGS-libunwind-$(1) = -I$(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/include
FEATURE_CHECK_LDFLAGS-libunwind-$(1) = -L$(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/lib
endef
ifdef LIBUNWIND_DIR
LIBUNWIND_CFLAGS = -I$(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/include
LIBUNWIND_LDFLAGS = -L$(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/lib
LIBUNWIND_ARCHS = x86 x86_64 arm aarch64 debug-frame-arm debug-frame-aarch64
$(foreach libunwind_arch,$(LIBUNWIND_ARCHS),$(call libunwind_arch_set_flags,$(libunwind_arch)))
endif
Look at that 'foreach' on all the LIBUNWIND_ARCHS.
</>
After commit 5c4d7c82c0dc ("perf unwind: Do not put libunwind-{x86,aarch64}
in FEATURE_TESTS_BASIC"), FEATURE_CHECK_LDFLAGS-libunwind-{x86,aarch64} is
overwritten. As a result, the remote libunwind libraries cannot be searched
from $(LIBUNWIND_DIR)/lib directory during feature check tests. Fix it with
variable appending.

With this commit, we can avoid the following build error in any case:

During a perf build with O= bison stores full paths in generated files
and those paths are stored in resulting perf binary.
Starting from bison v3.7.1 those paths can be remapped by using the
--file-prefix-map option. Use this option if possible to make perf
binary more reproducible.

When linking libbpf dynamically we need to use perf's

We were doing it in tools/build/Makefile.feature, after running the
feature checks, but then in tools/perf/Makefile.config we can call more
feature checks when we notice that some feature check failed, like when
libbfd wasn't detected and we add libraries to the LDFLAGS of its
feature check to try again, etc.

Feature detection is done in tools/build/Makefile.feature, we may exit
there with some features not detected and then, in
tools/perf/Makefile.config try adding extra libraries to link and then
do extra feature checks to see if we now find the feature.
This is the case with the disassembler-four-args that checks if the
diassembler() function in libopcodes (binutils) has a signature with
one or with four arguments, as this is not ABI and they changed it at
some point.
This is not a problem when doing normal builds, for instance:
$ make -C tools/perf O=/tmp/build/perf
As we don't use what is in FEATURE-DUMP at that point, but is a problem
if we pass FEATURE_DUMP=/previously-detected-features as we do in
'make -C tools/perf build-test' to reuse the feature detection in the
many build combinations we test there.
When that is done feature-disassembler-four-args will be set to 0, but
opensuse 15.1 has the four arguments function signature in
disassembler(). The build thus fails.
Fix it by rewriting the FEATURE-DUMP file at the end of
tools/perf/Makefile.config to register features we retested in that make
file.

Currently we support only static linking with kernel's libtraceevent

and support to link perf with it dynamically.
The libtraceevent package status is displayed with:
$ make VF=1 LIBTRACEEVENT_DYNAMIC=1
...
... libtraceevent: [ on ]
Default behavior remains the same (static linking).

BPF programs are useful in perf to profile BPF programs.
BPF skeleton is by far the easiest way to write BPF tools. Enable
building BPF skeletons in util/bpf_skel. A dummy bpf skeleton is added.
More bpf skeletons will be added for different use cases.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next
Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
- Add redirect_neigh() BPF packet redirect helper, allowing to limit
stack traversal in common container configs and improving TCP
back-pressure.
Daniel reports ~10Gbps => ~15Gbps single stream TCP performance gain.
- Expand netlink policy support and improve policy export to user
space. (Ge)netlink core performs request validation according to
declared policies. Expand the expressiveness of those policies
(min/max length and bitmasks). Allow dumping policies for particular
commands. This is used for feature discovery by user space (instead
of kernel version parsing or trial and error).
- Support IGMPv3/MLDv2 multicast listener discovery protocols in
bridge.
- Allow more than 255 IPv4 multicast interfaces.
- Add support for Type of Service (ToS) reflection in SYN/SYN-ACK
packets of TCPv6.
- In Multi-patch TCP (MPTCP) support concurrent transmission of data on
multiple subflows in a load balancing scenario. Enhance advertising
addresses via the RM_ADDR/ADD_ADDR options.
- Support SMC-Dv2 version of SMC, which enables multi-subnet
deployments.
- Allow more calls to same peer in RxRPC.
- Support two new Controller Area Network (CAN) protocols - CAN-FD and
ISO 15765-2:2016.
- Add xfrm/IPsec compat layer, solving the 32bit user space on 64bit
kernel problem.
- Add TC actions for implementing MPLS L2 VPNs.
- Improve nexthop code - e.g. handle various corner cases when nexthop
objects are removed from groups better, skip unnecessary
notifications and make it easier to offload nexthops into HW by
converting to a blocking notifier.
- Support adding and consuming TCP header options by BPF programs,
opening the doors for easy experimental and deployment-specific TCP
option use.
- Reorganize TCP congestion control (CC) initialization to simplify
life of TCP CC implemented in BPF.
- Add support for shipping BPF programs with the kernel and loading
them early on boot via the User Mode Driver mechanism, hence reusing
all the user space infra we have.
- Support sleepable BPF programs, initially targeting LSM and tracing.
- Add bpf_d_path() helper for returning full path for given 'struct
path'.
- Make bpf_tail_call compatible with bpf-to-bpf calls.
- Allow BPF programs to call map_update_elem on sockmaps.
- Add BPF Type Format (BTF) support for type and enum discovery, as
well as support for using BTF within the kernel itself (current use
is for pretty printing structures).
- Support listing and getting information about bpf_links via the bpf
syscall.
- Enhance kernel interfaces around NIC firmware update. Allow
specifying overwrite mask to control if settings etc. are reset
during update; report expected max time operation may take to users;
support firmware activation without machine reboot incl. limits of
how much impact reset may have (e.g. dropping link or not).
- Extend ethtool configuration interface to report IEEE-standard
counters, to limit the need for per-vendor logic in user space.
- Adopt or extend devlink use for debug, monitoring, fw update in many
drivers (dsa loop, ice, ionic, sja1105, qed, mlxsw, mv88e6xxx,
dpaa2-eth).
- In mlxsw expose critical and emergency SFP module temperature alarms.
Refactor port buffer handling to make the defaults more suitable and
support setting these values explicitly via the DCBNL interface.
- Add XDP support for Intel's igb driver.
- Support offloading TC flower classification and filtering rules to
mscc_ocelot switches.
- Add PTP support for Marvell Octeontx2 and PP2.2 hardware, as well as
fixed interval period pulse generator and one-step timestamping in
dpaa-eth.
- Add support for various auth offloads in WiFi APs, e.g. SAE (WPA3)
offload.
- Add Lynx PHY/PCS MDIO module, and convert various drivers which have
this HW to use it. Convert mvpp2 to split PCS.
- Support Marvell Prestera 98DX3255 24-port switch ASICs, as well as
7-port Mediatek MT7531 IP.
- Add initial support for QCA6390 and IPQ6018 in ath11k WiFi driver,
and wcn3680 support in wcn36xx.
- Improve performance for packets which don't require much offloads on
recent Mellanox NICs by 20% by making multiple packets share a
descriptor entry.
- Move chelsio inline crypto drivers (for TLS and IPsec) from the
crypto subtree to drivers/net. Move MDIO drivers out of the phy
directory.
- Clean up a lot of W=1 warnings, reportedly the actively developed
subsections of networking drivers should now build W=1 warning free.
- Make sure drivers don't use in_interrupt() to dynamically adapt their
code. Convert tasklets to use new tasklet_setup API (sadly this
conversion is not yet complete).

Some distros don't come with python2 and only have python3 available.
This causes the "'import perf' in python" self test to fail.
This change adds python3 to the list of possible python versions
that are autodetected but maintains the priorities for
'python2' and 'python' detection. Python3 has the lowest priority.
Committer notes:
On a fedora system without python2 packages the 'perf test python'
continues to work:
# python2
bash: python2: command not found...
Similar command is: 'python'
# rpm -qa | grep python2
#
That "Similar command" gives the clue:
# rpm -qf /usr/bin/python
python-unversioned-command-3.8.5-5.fc32.noarch
# rpm -ql python-unversioned-command
/usr/bin/python
/usr/share/man/man1/python.1.gz
#
With it in place the 'python' binary is found and perf builds the python
binding using python3:
# perf test -v python
19: 'import perf' in python :
--- start ---
test child forked, pid 379988
python usage test: "echo "import sys ; sys.path.append('/tmp/build/perf/python'); import perf" | '/usr/bin/python' "

Currently BUILD_BUG() macro is expanded to smth like the following:
do {
extern void __compiletime_assert_0(void)
__attribute__((error("BUILD_BUG failed")));
if (!(!(1)))
__compiletime_assert_0();
} while (0);
If used in a function body this obviously would produce build errors
with -Wnested-externs and -Werror.

This is bitrotting, nobody is stepping up to work on it, and since we
treat warnings as errors, feature detection is failing in its main,
faster test (tools/build/feature/test-all.c) because of the GTK+2
infobar check.
So make this opt-in, at some point ditch this if nobody volunteers to
take care of this.

It's trivial to handle missing ELF_C_MMAP_READ support in libelf the way that
objtool has solved it in
("774bec3fddcc objtool: Add fallback from ELF_C_READ_MMAP to ELF_C_READ").
So instead of having an entire feature detector for that, just do what objtool
does for perf and libbpf. And keep their Makefiles a bit simpler.

we still need add this support to perf build-id/report.. and test ;-)

This patch links perf with the libpfm4 library if it is available and
LIBPFM4 is passed to the build. The libpfm4 library contains hardware
event tables for all processors supported by perf_events. It is a helper
library that helps convert from a symbolic event name to the event
encoding required by the underlying kernel interface. This library is
open-source and available from: http://perfmon2.sf.net.
With this patch, it is possible to specify full hardware events by name.
Hardware filters are also supported. Events must be specified via the
--pfm-events and not -e option. Both options are active at the same time
and it is possible to mix and match:
$ perf stat --pfm-events inst_retired:any_p:c=1:i -e cycles ....
One needs to explicitely ask for its inclusion by using the LIBPFM4 make
command line option, ie its opt-in rather than opt-out of feature
detection and build support.

Ingo reported that the libaudit was always appearing as OFF:
Auto-detecting system features:
... dwarf: [ on ]
... dwarf_getlocations: [ on ]
... glibc: [ on ]
... gtk2: [ on ]
... libaudit: [ OFF ]
And everything seemed to work, i.e. we were checking for a feature that
we don't use, causing confusion for people building perf, so work to
remove that nuisance while making sure that it works when an arch
doesn't provide the alternative method to generate the syscall id/name
conversion tables.
Longer explanation of the new modus operandi:
$ make -C tools/perf O=/tmp/build/perf NO_SYSCALL_TABLE=1

$
The libaudit test is forced and it fails when audit-libs-devel isn't available:
$ cat /tmp/build/perf/feature/test-libaudit.make.output
test-libaudit.c:2:10: fatal error: libaudit.h: No such file or directory
2 | #include <libaudit.h>
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~
compilation terminated.
$
If we install audit-libs-devel and rebuild it continues not to be shown as OFF
in the main auto-detection summary, but again gets tested and this time:
$ rpm -q audit-libs-devel
audit-libs-devel-3.0-0.15.20191104git1c2f876.fc31.x86_64
$
The make output for the feature detection comes clean:
$ cat /tmp/build/perf/feature/test-libaudit.make.output
And the feature detection binary is successfully built and is dynamicly linked
with libaudit:
$ ldd /tmp/build/perf/feature/test-libaudit.bin | grep audit
libaudit.so.1 => /lib64/libaudit.so.1 (0x00007f5bf5177000)
$
As well as the resulting perf binary:
$ ldd /tmp/build/perf/perf | grep audit
libaudit.so.1 => /lib64/libaudit.so.1 (0x00007fad511c7000)
$
And 'perf trace' works using the libaudit method:
$ sudo /tmp/build/perf/perf trace -e nanosleep sleep 1
0.000 (1000.067 ms): sleep/281872 nanosleep(rqtp: 0x7ffedbbe69d0) = 0
$
If we leave audit-libs-devel installed but don't disable the use of the best
method, the one using SYSCALL_TABLE, the default for architectures that provide
the script to build the syscall id/name mapping using the .tbl files copied
from the kernel sources, we get:
$ rm -rf /tmp/build/perf ; mkdir -p /tmp/build/perf
$ make -C tools/perf O=/tmp/build/perf

$ cat /tmp/build/perf/feature/test-libaudit.make.output
cat: /tmp/build/perf/feature/test-libaudit.make.output: No such file or directory
$
We didn't even bother checking for its availability, slightly speeding up the
build process and:
$ ldd /tmp/build/perf/perf | grep libaudit
$
We don't link with it, also:
$ sudo /tmp/build/perf/perf trace -e nanosleep sleep 1
0.000 (1000.053 ms): sleep/299125 nanosleep(rqtp: 0x7ffc24611b50) = 0
$
And globs become available:
$ sudo /tmp/build/perf/perf trace -e *sleep sleep 1

want to have it tested in 'make -C tools/perf/ build-test'.

Python 3.8 changed the output of 'python-config --ldflags' to no longer
include the '-lpythonX.Y' flag (this apparently fixed an issue loading
modules with a statically linked Python executable). The libpython
feature check in linux/build/feature fails if the Python library is not
included in FEATURE_CHECK_LDFLAGS-libpython variable.
This adds a check in the Makefile to determine if PYTHON_CONFIG accepts
the '--embed' flag and passes that flag alongside '--ldflags' if so.
tools/perf is the only place the libpython feature check is used.

The file handle (FHANDLE) support is configurable so some systems might not
have it. So add a config feature item to check it on build time so that we
don't add the cgroup tracking feature based on that.
Committer notes:
Had to make the test use the same construct as its later use in
synthetic-events.c, in the next patch in this series. i.e. make it be:
struct {
struct file_handle fh;
uint64_t cgroup_id;
} handle;
To cope with:
CC /tmp/build/perf/util/cloexec.o
util/synthetic-events.c:428:22: error: field 'fh' with CC /tmp/build/perf/util/call-path.o
variable sized type 'struct file_handle' not at the end of a struct or class is a GNU
extension [-Werror,-Wgnu-variable-sized-type-not-at-end]
struct file_handle fh;
^
1 error generated.
Deal with this at some point, i.e. investigate if the right thing is to
remove that -Wgnu-variable-sized-type-not-at-end from our CFLAGS, for
now do the test the same way as it is used looks more sensible.

Currently we support only static linking with kernel's libbpf
(tools/lib/bpf). This patch adds libbpf package detection and support to
link perf with it dynamically.
The libbpf package status is displayed with:
$ make VF=1
Auto-detecting system features:
...
... libbpf: [ on ]
It's not checked by default, because it's quite new. Once it's on most
distros we can switch it on.
For the same reason it's not added to the test-all check.
Perf does not need advanced version of libbpf, so we can check just for
the base bpf_object__open function.
Adding new compile variable to detect libbpf package and link bpf
dynamically:
$ make LIBBPF_DYNAMIC=1
...
LINK perf
$ ldd perf | grep bpf
libbpf.so.0 => /lib64/libbpf.so.0 (0x00007f46818bc000)
If libbpf is not installed, build stops with:
Makefile.config:486: *** Error: No libbpf devel library found,\
please install libbpf-devel. Stop.

Andi reported that 'make DEBUG=1' does not propagate to the libbperf
code. It's true also for the other flags. Changing the code to propagate
the global build flags to libperf compilation.

With Java 11 there is no seperate JRE anymore.
Details:
https://coderanch.com/t/701603/java/JRE-JDK
Therefore the detection of the JRE needs to be adapted.
This change works for s390 and x86. I have not tested other platforms.
Committer testing:
Continues to work with the OpenJDK 8:

The next cset will grap const.h copies from the kernel to keep bits.h
in sync as it started to use linux/const.h, that in turn includes
uapi/linux/const.h.
So now we have a file with the same name in tools/include and
tools/uapi/include, and one includes the other, we need to have
tools/include/uapi/ after tools/include/ for this to work, fix it.

Committer notes:
Need to add -I$(srctree)/tools/arch/$(ARCH)/include/uapi
-I$(srctree)/tools/include/uapi to tools/perf/lib/Makefile's INCLUDE
variable to pick up the latest versions of kernel headers, even in older
systems, this is in line with what is in tools/lib/bpf/Makefile.
