2016-12-11make use of make variable CURDIR instead of calling pwdUwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
make already provides the current working directory in a variable, so make use of it instead of forking a shell. Also replace usage of PWD by CURDIR. PWD is provided by most shells, but not all, so this makes the build system more robust. Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@pengutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.com>
2016-12-06perf build: Check LLVM version in feature checkWang Nan3-2/+22
Cancel builtin llvm and clang support when LLVM version is less than 3.9.0: following commits uses newer API. Since Clang/LLVM's API is not guaranteed to be stable, add a test-llvm-version.cpp feature checker, issue warning if LLVM found in compiling environment is not tested yet. 2016-12-05tools build: Add feature detection for clangWang Nan2-0/+31
Check if basic clang compiling environment is ready. Doesn't like 'llvm-config --libs' which can returns llvm libraries in right order and duplicates some libraries if necessary, there's no correspondence for clang libraries (-lclangxxx). to avoid extra complexity and to avoid new clang breaking libraries ordering, use --start-group and --end-group. In this test case, manually identify required clang libs and hope it to be stable. Putting all clang libraries here is possible (use make's wildcard), but then feature checking becomes very slow. 2016-12-05tools build: Add feature detection for LLVMWang Nan2-0/+16
Check if basic LLVM compiling environment is ready. Use llvm-config to detect include and library directories. Avoid using 'llvm-config --cxxflags' because its result contain some unwanted flags like --sysroot (if LLVM is built by yocto). Use '?=' to set LLVM_CONFIG, so explicitly passing LLVM_CONFIG to make would override it. Use 'llvm-config --libs BPF' to check if BPF backend is compiled in. Since now BPF bytecode is the only required backend, no need to waste time linking llvm and clang if BPF backend is missing. This also introduce an implicit requirement that LLVM should be new enough. Old LLVM doesn't support BPF backend. 2016-12-05tools build: Make fixdep parsing wait for last targetJiri Olsa1-2/+3
The fixdep tool, among other things, replaces the target of the object in the gcc generated dependency output file. 2016-01-28perf build: Fix feature-dump checks, we need to test all featuresJiri Olsa1-0/+8
I see problem with test-all case speedup, because it does not comprise checks for 32bits compilations, fix it. The problem could be noticed by calling: make -C tools/perf feature-dump That would end up misdetecting the feature-compile-x32, that, building using 'gcc -mx32' needs stub headers not present in a fedora 23 devel machine and thus fail to compile, but ended up appearing as detected, i.e. present in tools/perf/FEATURE-DUMP as 'feature-compile-x32=1'. With this fix it correctly appears as 'feature-compile-x32=0' and if we uninstall the libc devel files for 32 bits (glibc-devel.i686), then the relevant variable is flipped from 'feature-compile-32=1' to 'feature-compile-32=0'. The same things happened for bionic and libbabeltrace, that were misdetected because the are no tested in test-all.c Reported-and-Tested-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@kernel.org> Cc: Wang Nan <wangnan0@huawei.com> Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/n/tip-u0sjaddf1r9m8icpd98ry7fz@git.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>

2015-11-25tools build: Clean CFLAGS and LDFLAGS for fixdepWang Nan1-1/+1
Sometimes passing variables to tools/build is dangerous. For example, on my platform there is a gcc problem (gcc 4.8.1): It passes the stackprotector-all feature check: $ gcc -fstack-protector-all -c ./test.c $ echo $? 0 But requires LDFLAGS support if separate compiling and linking: $ gcc -fstack-protector-all -c ./test.c $ gcc ./test.o ./test.o: In function `main': test.c:(.text+0xb): undefined reference to `__stack_chk_guard' test.c:(.text+0x21): undefined reference to `__stack_chk_guard' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status $ gcc -fstack-protector-all ./test.o $ echo $? 0 $ gcc ./test.o -lssp $ echo $? 0 $ In this environment building perf throws an error: $ make BUILD: Doing 'make -j24' parallel build config/Makefile:344: No libunwind found. Since fixdep is a small host side tool, we should keep its CFLAGS/LDFLAGS simple and clean. This patch clears the CFLAGS and LDFLAGS passed when building fixdep, so such gcc problem won't block the perf build process. Any CFLAGS or LDFLAGS set by the user need to be passed to the feature build command. This many include for example -I or -L to point to libraries and include files in custom paths. In most of the test-*.bin rules in build/feature/Makefile, we use the BUILD macro which always sends in CFLAGS and LDFLAGS. The libiberty build line however doesn't use the BUILD macro and thus needs to send in CFLAGS and LDFLAGS explicitly. Without this, when using custom CFLAGS/LDFLAGS, libiberty fails to be detected and the perf link fails with something like: LINK perf libbfd.a(bfd.o): In function `bfd_errmsg': bfd.c:(.text+0x168): undefined reference to `xstrerror' bbfd.a(opncls.o): In function `_bfd_new_bfd': opncls.c:(.text+0xe8): undefined reference to `objalloc_create' ... 2015-10-28perf tools: Make perf depend on libbpfWang Nan1-2/+4
By adding libbpf into perf's Makefile, this patch enables perf to build libbpf if libelf is found and neither NO_LIBELF nor NO_LIBBPF is set. The newly introduced code is similar to how libapi and libtraceevent are wired into Makefile.perf. MANIFEST is also updated for 'make perf-*-src-pkg'. Append make_no_libbpf to tools/perf/tests/make. The 'bpf' feature check is appended into default FEATURE_TESTS and FEATURE_DISPLAY, so perf will check the API version of bpf in /path/to/kernel/include/uapi/linux/bpf.h. Which should not fail except when we are trying to port this code to an old kernel. Error messages are also updated to notify users about the lack of BPF support in 'perf record' if libelf is missing or the BPF API check failed. tools/lib/bpf is added to TAG_FOLDERS to allow us to navigate libbpf files when working on perf using tools/perf/tags. 2015-09-28tools build: Add fixdep dependency helperJiri Olsa3-0/+212
For dependency tracking we currently use targets that fall out of the gcc -MD command. We store this info in the .cmd file and include as makefile during the build. This format put object as target and all the c and header files as dependencies, like: util/abspath.o: util/abspath.c /usr/include/stdc-predef.h util/cache.h \ /usr/include/bits/wordsize.h /usr/include/gnu/stubs.h \ ... If any of those dependency header files (krava.h below) is removed the build fails on: make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'krava.h', needed by 'inc.o'. Stop. This patch adds fixdep helper, that is used by kbuild to alter the shape of the object dependencies like: source_util/abspath.o := util/abspath.c deps_util/abspath.o := \ /usr/include/stdc-predef.h \ util/cache.h \ ... util/abspath.o: $(deps_util/abspath.o) $(deps_util/abspath.o): With this format the header removal won't make the build fail, because it'll be picked up by the last empty target defined for each header. As previously mentioned the fixdep tool is taken from kbuild. It's not complete backport, only the part that alters the standard dependency info was taken, the part that adds the CONFIG_* dependency logic will be probably taken later on.
