2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada1-3/+3
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>

This allows people to actually use mount options with proc with no fear of messing up another mount of proc. Given the kernel's internal mounts of proc for things like uml this was a real problem, and resulted in Android's hidepid mount options being ignored and introducing security issues. The rest of the changes are small cleanups and fixes that came out of my work to allow this change to proc. 2020-05-20exec: Factor security_bprm_creds_for_exec out of security_bprm_set_credsEric W. Biederman1-9/+3
Today security_bprm_set_creds has several implementations: apparmor_bprm_set_creds, cap_bprm_set_creds, selinux_bprm_set_creds, smack_bprm_set_creds, and tomoyo_bprm_set_creds. Except for cap_bprm_set_creds they all test bprm->called_set_creds and return immediately if it is true. The function cap_bprm_set_creds ignores bprm->calld_sed_creds entirely. Create a new LSM hook security_bprm_creds_for_exec that is called just before prepare_binprm in __do_execve_file, resulting in a LSM hook that is called exactly once for the entire of exec. Modify the bits of security_bprm_set_creds that only want to be called once per exec into security_bprm_creds_for_exec, leaving only cap_bprm_set_creds behind. Remove bprm->called_set_creds all of it's former users have been moved to security_bprm_creds_for_exec. Add or upate comments a appropriate to bring them up to date and to reflect this change. 2020-05-19proc: proc_pid_ns takes super_block as an argumentAlexey Gladkov1-1/+1
syzbot found that touch /proc/testfile causes NULL pointer dereference at tomoyo_get_local_path() because inode of the dentry is NULL. Before c59f415a7cb6, Tomoyo received pid_ns from proc's s_fs_info directly. Since proc_pid_ns() can only work with inode, using it in the tomoyo_get_local_path() was wrong. To avoid creating more functions for getting proc_ns, change the argument type of the proc_pid_ns() function. Then, Tomoyo can use the existing super_block to get pid_ns. John Garry has reported that allmodconfig kernel on arm64 causes flood of "RCU-list traversed in non-reader section!!" warning. I don't know what change caused this warning, but this warning is safe because TOMOYO uses SRCU lock instead. Let's suppress this warning by explicitly telling that the caller is holding SRCU lock. 2019-12-11tomoyo: Don't use nifty names on sockets.Tetsuo Handa1-31/+1
syzbot is reporting that use of SOCKET_I()->sk from open() can result in use after free problem [1], for socket's inode is still reachable via /proc/pid/fd/n despite destruction of SOCKET_I()->sk already completed. At first I thought that this race condition applies to only open/getattr permission checks. But James Morris has pointed out that there are more permission checks where this race condition applies to. Thus, get rid of tomoyo_get_socket_name() instead of conditionally bypassing permission checks on sockets. As a side effect of this patch, "socket:[family=\$:type=\$:protocol=\$]" in the policy files has to be rewritten to "socket:[\$]". 2019-05-10tomoyo: Change pathname calculation for read-only filesystems.Tetsuo Handa1-1/+2
Commit 5625f2e3266319fd ("TOMOYO: Change pathname for non-rename()able filesystems.") intended to be applied to filesystems where the content is not controllable from the userspace (e.g. proc, sysfs, securityfs), based on an assumption that such filesystems do not support rename() operation. But it turned out that read-only filesystems also do not support rename() operation despite the content is controllable from the userspace, and that commit is annoying TOMOYO users who want to use e.g. squashfs as the root filesystem due to use of local name which does not start with '/'. Therefore, based on an assumption that filesystems which require the device argument upon mount() request is an indication that the content is controllable from the userspace, do not use local name if a filesystem does not support rename() operation but requires the device argument upon mount() request. 2019-05-10tomoyo: Add a kernel config option for fuzzing testing.Tetsuo Handa2-1/+22
syzbot is reporting kernel panic triggered by memory allocation fault injection before loading TOMOYO's policy [1]. To make the fuzzing tests useful, we need to assign a profile other than "disabled" (no-op) mode. Therefore, let's allow syzbot to load TOMOYO's built-in policy for "learning" mode using a kernel config option. This option must not be enabled for kernels built for production system, for this option also disables domain/program checks when modifying policy configuration via /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/ interface. 2019-01-03Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() functionLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand. It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact. A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's just get this done once and for all. This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form. There were a couple of notable cases: - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias. - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing really used it) - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch. I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Commit 8370edea81e3 ("bin2c: move bin2c in scripts/basic") moved bin2c to the scripts/basic/ directory, incorrectly stating "Kexec wants to use bin2c and it wants to use it really early in the build process. See arch/x86/purgatory/ code in later patches." Commit bdab125c9301 ("Revert "kexec/purgatory: Add clean-up for purgatory directory"") and commit d6605b6bbee8 ("x86/build: Remove unnecessary preparation for purgatory") removed the redundant purgatory build magic entirely. That means that the move of bin2c was unnecessary in the first place. fixdep is the only host program that deserves to sit in the scripts/basic/ directory. Changes since v1: Added changes in these files: drivers/infiniband/hw/usnic/usnic_transport.c drivers/staging/lustre/lnet/lnet/lib-socket.c drivers/target/iscsi/iscsi_target_login.c drivers/vhost/net.c fs/dlm/lowcomms.c fs/ocfs2/cluster/tcp.c security/tomoyo/network.c Before: All these functions either return a negative error indicator, or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter and return zero on success. "int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value it does not need. None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it. This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success, return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated from an error. Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed. rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently not used in any way. NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost". For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman18-0/+18
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-10-21tomoyo: fix timestamping for y2038Arnd Bergmann4-34/+13
Tomoyo uses an open-coded version of time_to_tm() to create a timestamp from the current time as read by get_seconds(). This will overflow and give wrong results on 32-bit systems in 2038. To correct this, this changes the code to use ktime_get_real_seconds() and the generic time64_to_tm() function that are both y2038-safe. Using the library function avoids adding an expensive 64-bit division in this code and can benefit from any optimizations we do in common code.
