2011-03-27rose: Add length checks to CALL_REQUEST parsingBen Hutchings4-46/+86
Define some constant offsets for CALL_REQUEST based on the description at <http://www.techfest.com/networking/wan/x25plp.htm> and the definition of ROSE as using 10-digit (5-byte) addresses. Use them consistently. Validate all implicit and explicit facilities lengths. Validate the address length byte rather than either trusting or assuming its value. 2011-03-27ROSE: prevent heap corruption with bad facilitiesDan Rosenberg1-2/+16
When parsing the FAC_NATIONAL_DIGIS facilities field, it's possible for a remote host to provide more digipeaters than expected, resulting in heap corruption. Check against ROSE_MAX_DIGIS to prevent overflows, and abort facilities parsing on failure. Additionally, when parsing the FAC_CCITT_DEST_NSAP and FAC_CCITT_SRC_NSAP facilities fields, a remote host can provide a length of less than 10, resulting in an underflow in a memcpy size, causing a kernel panic due to massive heap corruption. A length of greater than 20 results in a stack overflow of the callsign array. Abort facilities parsing on these invalid length values. 2011-02-14ROSE: AX25: finding routes simplificationBernard Pidoux1-7/+0
With previous patch, rose_get_neigh() routine investigates the full list of neighbor nodes until it finds or not an already connected node whether it is called locally or through a level 3 transit frame. If no routes are opened through an adjacent connected node then a classical connect request is attempted. Then there is no more reason for an extra loop such as the one removed by this patch. 2011-02-14ROSE: rose AX25 packet routing improvementBernard Pidoux1-12/+16
FPAC AX25 packet application is using Linux kernel ROSE routing skills in order to connect or send packets to remote stations knowing their ROSE address via a network of interconnected nodes. Each FPAC node has a ROSE routing table that Linux ROSE module is looking at each time a ROSE frame is relayed by the node or when a connect request to a neighbor node is received. A previous patch improved the system time response by looking at already established routes each time the system was looking for a route to relay a frame. If a neighbor node routing the destination address was already connected, then the frame would be sent through him. If not, a connection request would be issued. The present patch extends the same routing capability to a connect request asked by a user locally connected into an FPAC node. Without this patch, a connect request was not well handled unless it was directed to an immediate connected neighbor of the local node. Implemented at a number of ROSE FPAC node stations, the present patch improved dramatically FPAC ROSE routing time response and efficiency. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo7-0/+7
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2008-11-25rose: zero length frame filtering in af_rose.cBernard Pidoux1-0/+10
Since changeset e79ad711a0108475c1b3a03815527e7237020b08 from mainline, >From David S. Miller, empty packet can be transmitted on connected socket for datagram protocols. However, this patch broke a high level application using ROSE network protocol with connected datagram. Bulletin Board Stations perform bulletins forwarding between BBS stations via ROSE network using a forward protocol. Now, if for some reason, a buffer in the application software happens to be empty at a specific moment, ROSE sends an empty packet via unfiltered packet socket. When received, this ROSE packet introduces perturbations of data exchange of BBS forwarding, for the application message forwarding protocol is waiting for something else. We agree that a more careful programming of the application protocol would avoid this situation and we are willing to debug it. But, as an empty frame is no use and does not have any meaning for ROSE protocol, we may consider filtering zero length data both when sending and receiving socket data. The proposed patch repaired BBS data exchange through ROSE network that were broken since 2.6.22.11 kernel. Signed-off-by: Bernard Pidoux <f6bvp@amsat.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Without CONFIG_NET_NS, namespace is always &init_net. Compiler will be able to omit namespace comparisons with this patch. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-07-17netdev: Allocate multiple queues for TX.David S. Miller1-2/+4
alloc_netdev_mq() now allocates an array of netdev_queue structures for TX, based upon the queue_count argument. Furthermore, all accesses to the TX queues are now vectored through the netdev_get_tx_queue() and netdev_for_each_tx_queue() interfaces. This makes it easy to grep the tree for all things that want to get to a TX queue of a net device. Problem spots which are not really multiqueue aware yet, and only work with one queue, can easily be spotted by grepping for all netdev_get_tx_queue() calls that pass in a zero index. 2008-07-08netdev: Move _xmit_lock and xmit_lock_owner into netdev_queue.David S. Miller1-1/+11
Accesses are mostly structured such that when there are multiple TX queues the code transformations will be a little bit simpler. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
