2013-05-28net: pass info struct via netdevice notifierJiri Pirko1-1/+1
So far, only net_device * could be passed along with netdevice notifier event. This patch provides a possibility to pass custom structure able to provide info that event listener needs to know. 2013-05-01proc: Supply a function to remove a proc entry by PDEDavid Howells1-4/+2
Supply a function (proc_remove()) to remove a proc entry (and any subtree rooted there) by proc_dir_entry pointer rather than by name and (optionally) root dir entry pointer. Conflicts: drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/ethtool.c drivers/net/vmxnet3/vmxnet3_drv.c drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/dvm/tx.c net/ipv6/route.c The ipv6 route.c conflict is simple, just ignore the 'net' side change as we fixed the same problem in 'net-next' by eliminating cached neighbours from ipv6 routes. The e1000e conflict is an addition of a new statistic in the ethtool code, trivial. The vmxnet3 conflict is about one change in 'net' removing a guarding conditional, whilst in 'net-next' we had a netdev_info() conversion. 2012-11-03pktgen: clean up ktime_t helpersDaniel Borkmann1-28/+13
Some years ago, the ktime_t helper functions ktime_now() and ktime_lt() have been introduced. Instead of defining them inside pktgen.c, they should either use ktime_t library functions or, if not available, they should be defined in ktime.h, so that also others can benefit from them. ktime_compare() is introduced with a similar notion as in timespec_compare(). 2012-10-10pktgen: fix crash when generating IPv6 packetsAmerigo Wang1-1/+1
For IPv6, sizeof(struct ipv6hdr) = 40, thus the following expression will result negative: datalen = pkt_dev->cur_pkt_size - 14 - sizeof(struct ipv6hdr) - sizeof(struct udphdr) - pkt_dev->pkt_overhead; And, the check "if (datalen < sizeof(struct pktgen_hdr))" will be passed as "datalen" is promoted to unsigned, therefore will cause a crash later. This is a quick fix by checking if "datalen" is negative. The following patch will increase the default value of 'min_pkt_size' for IPv6. This bug should exist for a long time, so Cc -stable too. 2011-07-27net: add IFF_SKB_TX_SHARED flag to priv_flagsNeil Horman1-3/+5
Pktgen attempts to transmit shared skbs to net devices, which can't be used by some drivers as they keep state information in skbs. This patch adds a flag marking drivers as being able to handle shared skbs in their tx path. 2011-05-20sanitize <linux/prefetch.h> usageLinus Torvalds1-0/+1
Commit e66eed651fd1 ("list: remove prefetching from regular list iterators") removed the include of prefetch.h from list.h, which uncovered several cases that had apparently relied on that rather obscure header file dependency. So this fixes things up a bit, using grep -L linux/prefetch.h $(git grep -l '[^a-z_]prefetchw*(' -- '*.[ch]') grep -L 'prefetchw*(' $(git grep -l 'linux/prefetch.h' -- '*.[ch]') to guide us in finding files that either need <linux/prefetch.h> inclusion, or have it despite not needing it. 2011-05-08pktgen: use %pI6c for printing IPv6 addressesAlexey Dobriyan1-96/+13
I don't know why %pI6 doesn't compress, but the format specifier is kernel-standard, so use it. Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-04-29pktgen: create num frags requestedamit salecha1-26/+9
Pktgen doesn't generate number of frags requested. Divide packet size by number of frags and fill that in every frags. Example: With packet size 1470, it generate only 11 frags. Initial frags get lenght 706, 353, 177....so on. Last frag get divided by 2. Now with this fix, each frags will get 78 bytes. 2011-03-14pktgen: bug fix in transmission headers with frags=0Daniel Turull1-2/+1
(bug introduced by commit 26ad787962ef84677a48c560 (pktgen: speedup fragmented skbs) The headers of pktgen were incorrectly added in a pktgen packet without frags (frags=0). There was an offset in the pktgen headers. The cause was in reusing the pgh variable as a return variable in skb_put when adding the payload to the skb. 2011-01-25pktgen: speedup fragmented skbsEric Dumazet1-141/+93
We spend lot of time clearing pages in pktgen. (Or not clearing them on ipv6 and leaking kernel memory) Since we dont modify them, we can use one zeroed page, and get references on it. This page can use NUMA affinity as well. Define pktgen_finalize_skb() helper, used both in ipv4 and ipv6 Results using skbs with one frag : Before patch : Result: OK: 608980458(c608978520+d1938) nsec, 1000000000 (100byte,1frags) 1642088pps 1313Mb/sec (1313670400bps) errors: 0 After patch : Result: OK: 345285014(c345283891+d1123) nsec, 1000000000 (100byte,1frags) 2896158pps 2316Mb/sec (2316926400bps) errors: 0 Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2010-12-10pktgen: adding prefetchw() callJunchang Wang1-0/+2
We know for sure pktgen is going to write skb->data right after *_alloc_skb, causing unnecessary cache misses. Idea is to add a prefetchw() call to prefetch the first cache line indicated by skb->data. On systems with Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch, it's probably two cache lines are prefetched. With this patch, pktgen on Intel SR1625 server with two E5530 quad-core processors and a single ixgbe-based NIC went from 8.63Mpps to 9.03Mpps, with 4.6% improvement.
