2017-03-22neighbour: fix nlmsg_pid in notificationsRoopa Prabhu1-2/+2
neigh notifications today carry pid 0 for nlmsg_pid in all cases. This patch fixes it to carry calling process pid when available. Applications (eg. quagga) rely on nlmsg_pid to ignore notifications generated by their own netlink operations. This patch follows the routing subsystem which already sets this correctly. 2017-03-13atm: remove an unnecessary loopFrancois Romieu1-9/+13
Andrey reported this kernel warning: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 4114 at kernel/sched/core.c:7737 __might_sleep+0x149/0x1a0 do not call blocking ops when !TASK_RUNNING; state=1 set at [<ffffffff813fcb22>] prepare_to_wait+0x182/0x530 The deeply nested alloc_skb is a problem. Diagnosis: nesting is wrong. It makes zero sense. Fix it and the implicit task state change problem automagically goes away. alloc_skb() does not need to be in the "while" loop. alloc_skb() does not need to be in the {prepare_to_wait/add_wait_queue ... finish_wait/remove_wait_queue} block. I claim that: - alloc_tx() should only perform the "wait_for_decent_tx_drain" part - alloc_skb() ought to be done directly in vcc_sendmsg - alloc_skb() failure can be handled gracefully in vcc_sendmsg - alloc_skb() may use a (m->msg_flags & MSG_DONTWAIT) dependent GFP_{KERNEL / ATOMIC} flag Reported-by: Andrey Konovalov <andreyknvl@google.com> Reviewed-and-Tested-by: Chas Williams <3chas3@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Chas Williams <3chas3@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2017-03-09net: Work around lockdep limitation in sockets that use socketsDavid Howells1-2/+3
Lockdep issues a circular dependency warning when AFS issues an operation through AF_RXRPC from a context in which the VFS/VM holds the mmap_sem. The theory lockdep comes up with is as follows: (1) If the pagefault handler decides it needs to read pages from AFS, it calls AFS with mmap_sem held and AFS begins an AF_RXRPC call, but creating a call requires the socket lock: mmap_sem must be taken before sk_lock-AF_RXRPC (2) afs_open_socket() opens an AF_RXRPC socket and binds it. rxrpc_bind() binds the underlying UDP socket whilst holding its socket lock. inet_bind() takes its own socket lock: sk_lock-AF_RXRPC must be taken before sk_lock-AF_INET (3) Reading from a TCP socket into a userspace buffer might cause a fault and thus cause the kernel to take the mmap_sem, but the TCP socket is locked whilst doing this: sk_lock-AF_INET must be taken before mmap_sem However, lockdep's theory is wrong in this instance because it deals only with lock classes and not individual locks. The AF_INET lock in (2) isn't really equivalent to the AF_INET lock in (3) as the former deals with a socket entirely internal to the kernel that never sees userspace. This is a limitation in the design of lockdep. Fix the general case by: (1) Double up all the locking keys used in sockets so that one set are used if the socket is created by userspace and the other set is used if the socket is created by the kernel. (2) Store the kern parameter passed to sk_alloc() in a variable in the sock struct (sk_kern_sock). This informs sock_lock_init(), sock_init_data() and sk_clone_lock() as to the lock keys to be used. Note that the child created by sk_clone_lock() inherits the parent's kern setting. (3) Add a 'kern' parameter to ->accept() that is analogous to the one passed in to ->create() that distinguishes whether kernel_accept() or sys_accept4() was the caller and can be passed to sk_alloc(). Note that a lot of accept functions merely dequeue an already allocated socket. I haven't touched these as the new socket already exists before we get the parameter. Note also that there are a couple of places where I've made the accepted socket unconditionally kernel-based: irda_accept() rds_rcp_accept_one() tcp_accept_from_sock() because they follow a sock_create_kern() and accept off of that. Whilst creating this, I noticed that lustre and ocfs don't create sockets through sock_create_kern() and thus they aren't marked as for-kernel, though they appear to be internal. I wonder if these should do that so that they use the new set of lock keys. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2017-02-27lib/vsprintf.c: remove %Z supportAlexey Dobriyan1-1/+1
Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z. Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller. Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers. 2016-10-21net: remove MTU limits on a few ether_setup callersJarod Wilson1-1/+3
These few drivers call ether_setup(), but have no ndo_change_mtu, and thus were overlooked for changes to MTU range checking behavior. They previously had no range checks, so for feature-parity, set their min_mtu to 0 and max_mtu to ETH_MAX_MTU (65535), instead of the 68 and 1500 inherited from the ether_setup() changes. Fine-tuning can come after we get back to full feature-parity here. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson1-2/+0
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set to 4096 to remedy that. v2: fix up lantiq_etop, missed breakage due to drive not compiling on x86 CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-05-23net/atm: sk_err_soft must be positiveStefan Hajnoczi2-3/+3
The sk_err and sk_err_soft fields are positive errno values and userspace applications rely on this when using getsockopt(SO_ERROR). ATM code places an -errno into sk_err_soft in sigd_send() and returns it from svc_addparty()/svc_dropparty(). Although I am not familiar with ATM code I came to this conclusion because: 1. sigd_send() msg->type cases as_okay and as_error both have: sk->sk_err = -msg->reply; while the as_addparty and as_dropparty cases have: sk->sk_err_soft = msg->reply; This is the source of the inconsistency. 2. svc_addparty() returns an -errno and assumes sk_err_soft is also an -errno: if (flags & O_NONBLOCK) { error = -EINPROGRESS; goto out; } ... error = xchg(&sk->sk_err_soft, 0); out: release_sock(sk); return error; This shows that sk_err_soft is indeed being treated as an -errno. This patch ensures that sk_err_soft is always a positive errno. Signed-off-by: Stefan Hajnoczi <stefanha@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Pull networking updates from David Miller: 1) Add BQL support to via-rhine, from Tino Reichardt. 2) Integrate SWITCHDEV layer support into the DSA layer, so DSA drivers can support hw switch offloading. From Floria Fainelli. 3) Allow 'ip address' commands to initiate multicast group join/leave, from Madhu Challa. 4) Many ipv4 FIB lookup optimizations from Alexander Duyck. 5) Support EBPF in cls_bpf classifier and act_bpf action, from Daniel Borkmann. 6) Remove the ugly compat support in ARP for ugly layers like ax25, rose, etc. And use this to clean up the neigh layer, then use it to implement MPLS support. All from Eric Biederman. 7) Support L3 forwarding offloading in switches, from Scott Feldman. 8) Collapse the LOCAL and MAIN ipv4 FIB tables when possible, to speed up route lookups even further. From Alexander Duyck. 9) Many improvements and bug fixes to the rhashtable implementation, from Herbert Xu and Thomas Graf. In particular, in the case where an rhashtable user bulk adds a large number of items into an empty table, we expand the table much more sanely. 10) Don't make the tcp_metrics hash table per-namespace, from Eric Biederman. 11) Extend EBPF to access SKB fields, from Alexei Starovoitov. 12) Split out new connection request sockets so that they can be established in the main hash table. Much less false sharing since hash lookups go direct to the request sockets instead of having to go first to the listener then to the request socks hashed underneath. From Eric Dumazet. 13) Add async I/O support for crytpo AF_ALG sockets, from Tadeusz Struk. 14) Support stable privacy address generation for RFC7217 in IPV6. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. 15) Hash network namespace into IP frag IDs, also from Hannes Frederic Sowa. 16) Convert PTP get/set methods to use 64-bit time, from Richard Cochran. * git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next: (1816 commits) fm10k: Bump driver version to 0.15.2 fm10k: corrected VF multicast update fm10k: mbx_update_max_size does not drop all oversized messages fm10k: reset head instead of calling update_max_size fm10k: renamed mbx_tx_dropped to mbx_tx_oversized fm10k: update xcast mode before synchronizing multicast addresses fm10k: start service timer on probe fm10k: fix function header comment fm10k: comment next_vf_mbx flow fm10k: don't handle mailbox events in iov_event path and always process mailbox fm10k: use separate workqueue for fm10k driver fm10k: Set PF queues to unlimited bandwidth during virtualization fm10k: expose tx_timeout_count as an ethtool stat fm10k: only increment tx_timeout_count in Tx hang path fm10k: remove extraneous "Reset interface" message fm10k: separate PF only stats so that VF does not display them fm10k: use hw->mac.max_queues for stats fm10k: only show actual queues, not the maximum in hardware fm10k: allow creation of VLAN on default vid fm10k: fix unused warnings ...

2014-10-07net: better IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE supportEric Dumazet1-1/+1
Testing xmit_more support with netperf and connected UDP sockets, I found strange dst refcount false sharing. Current handling of IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE is not optimal. Dropping dst in validate_xmit_skb() is certainly too late in case packet was queued by cpu X but dequeued by cpu Y The logical point to take care of drop/force is in __dev_queue_xmit() before even taking qdisc lock. As Julian Anastasov pointed out, need for skb_dst() might come from some packet schedulers or classifiers. This patch adds new helper to cleanly express needs of various drivers or qdiscs/classifiers. Drivers that need skb_dst() in their ndo_start_xmit() should call following helper in their setup instead of the prior : dev->priv_flags &= ~IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE; -> netif_keep_dst(dev); Instead of using a single bit, we use two bits, one being eventually rebuilt in bonding/team drivers. The other one, is permanent and blocks IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE being rebuilt in bonding/team. Eventually, we could add something smarter later. One should not call blocking primitives inside a wait loop, since both require task_struct::state to sleep, so the inner will destroy the outer state. sigd_enq() will possibly sleep for alloc_skb(). Move sigd_enq() before prepare_to_wait() to avoid sleeping while waiting interruptibly. 2014-04-11net: Fix use after free by removing length arg from sk_data_ready callbacks.David S. Miller5-11/+11
Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like: skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb); sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len); But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially to freed up memory. Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is possible that the value isn't accurate. And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and even '1'. So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get fixed as a side effect. Based upon a patch by Eric Dumazet and his suggestion to audit this issue tree-wide. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2013-11-20net: rework recvmsg handler msg_name and msg_namelen logicHannes Frederic Sowa1-2/+0
This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage) to return msg_name to the user. This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak uninitialized memory. Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets msg_name to NULL. Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David Miller. Changes since RFC: Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of verify_iovec. With this change in place I could remove " if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0) msg->msg_name = NULL ". This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL. Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change comments to netdev style.
