2007-05-07mm: make read_cache_page synchronousNick Piggin1-4/+0
Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls. I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7 possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in block2mtd. All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return with a !uptodate page. 2007-04-30reiserfs: suppress lockdep warningJeff Mahoney1-1/+1
We're getting lockdep warnings due to a post-2.6.21-rc7 bugfix. The xattr_sem can never be taken in the manner described. Internal inodes are protected by I_PRIVATE. Add the appropriate annotation. 2007-04-24reiserfs: fix xattr root locking/refcount bugJeff Mahoney1-68/+24
The listxattr() and getxattr() operations are only protected by a read lock. As a result, if either of these operations run in parallel, a race condition exists where the xattr_root will end up being cached twice, which results in the leaking of a reference and a BUG() on umount. This patch refactors get_xa_root(), __get_xa_root(), and create_xa_root(), into one get_xa_root() function that takes the appropriate locking around the entire critical section. 2006-10-03[PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbersDavid Howells1-3/+3
These patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when communicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system. They are required because some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS for example. The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace automatically where the arch supports it. Problems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode number returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and failing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and so overlaps occur. This patch: Make filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit inode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace. The stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where available and where possible. If it is not possible to represent the inode number supplied by the filesystem in the field provided by userspace, then error EOVERFLOW will be issued. Similarly, the getdents/readdir functions now pass the full 64-bit inode number to userspace where possible, returning EOVERFLOW instead when a directory entry is encountered that can't be properly represented. Note that this means that some inodes will not be stat'able on a 32-bit system with old libraries where they were before - but it does mean that there will be no ambiguity over what a 32-bit inode number refers to. Note similarly that directory scans may be cut short with an error on a 32-bit system with old libraries where the scan would work before for the same reasons. It is judged unlikely that this situation will occur because modern glibc uses 64-bit capable versions of stat and getdents class functions exclusively, and that older systems are unlikely to encounter unrepresentable inode numbers anyway. 2006-06-23[PATCH] read_mapping_page for address spacePekka Enberg1-2/+1
Add read_mapping_page() which is used for callers that pass mapping->a_ops->readpage as the filler for read_cache_page. This removes some duplication from filesystem code. 2005-07-12reiserfs: run scripts/Lindent on reiserfs codeLinus Torvalds1-1086/+1087
This was a pure indentation change, using: scripts/Lindent fs/reiserfs/*.c include/linux/reiserfs_*.h to make reiserfs match the regular Linux indentation style. As Jeff Mahoney <jeffm@suse.com> writes: The ReiserFS code is a mix of a number of different coding styles, sometimes different even from line-to-line. Since the code has been relatively stable for quite some time and there are few outstanding patches to be applied, it is time to reformat the code to conform to the Linux style standard outlined in Documentation/CodingStyle. This patch contains the result of running scripts/Lindent against fs/reiserfs/*.c and include/linux/reiserfs_*.h. There are places where the code can be made to look better, but I'd rather keep those patches separate so that there isn't a subtle by-hand hand accident in the middle of a huge patch. To be clear: This patch is reformatting *only*. A number of patches may follow that continue to make the code more consistent with the Linux coding style. Hans wasn't particularly enthusiastic about these patches, but said he wouldn't really oppose them either. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
