2015-04-11make new_sync_{read,write}() staticAl Viro1-2/+0
All places outside of core VFS that checked ->read and ->write for being NULL or called the methods directly are gone now, so NULL {read, write} with non-NULL {read,write}_iter will do the right thing in all cases. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2014-06-12->splice_write() via ->write_iter()Al Viro1-1/+1
iter_file_splice_write() - a ->splice_write() instance that gathers the pipe buffers, builds a bio_vec-based iov_iter covering those and feeds it to ->write_iter(). A bunch of simple cases coverted to that... [AV: fixed the braino spotted by Cyrill] Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2014-01-23fs/ramfs: move ramfs_aops to inode.cAxel Lin1-7/+0
ramfs_aops is identical in file-mmu.c and file-nommu.c. Thus move it to fs/ramfs/inode.c and make it static. 2010-05-27fs: convert simple fs to new truncateNick Piggin1-0/+1
Convert simple filesystems: ramfs, configfs, sysfs, block_dev to new truncate sequence. Cc: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2010-05-27rename the generic fsync implementationsChristoph Hellwig1-1/+1
We don't name our generic fsync implementations very well currently. The no-op implementation for in-memory filesystems currently is called simple_sync_file which doesn't make too much sense to start with, the the generic one for simple filesystems is called simple_fsync which can lead to some confusion. This patch renames the generic file fsync method to generic_file_fsync to match the other generic_file_* routines it is supposed to be used with, and the no-op implementation to noop_fsync to make it obvious what to expect. In addition add some documentation for both methods. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2008-04-29fs/ramfs/ extern cleanupAdrian Bunk1-0/+3
- internal.h shouldn't duplicate the extern declaration for ramfs_file_operations already in include/linux/ramfs.h - file-mmu.c needs two #include's for seeing the extern declarations of it's global struct's Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2007-07-10sendfile: remove .sendfile from filesystems that use generic_file_sendfile()Jens Axboe1-1/+1
They can use generic_file_splice_read() instead. Since sys_sendfile() now prefers that, there should be no change in behaviour. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 3Arjan van de Ven1-1/+1
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2007-02-11[PATCH] convert ramfs to use __set_page_dirty_no_writebackKen Chen1-1/+1
As pointed out by Hugh, ramfs would also benefit from using the new set_page_dirty aop method for memory backed file systems. 2006-12-30[PATCH] ramfs breaks without CONFIG_BLOCKDimitri Gorokhovik1-1/+3
ramfs doesn't provide the .set_dirty_page a_op, and when the BLOCK layer is not configured in, 'set_page_dirty' makes a call via a NULL pointer. 2006-10-01[PATCH] Streamline generic_file_* interfaces and filemap cleanupsBadari Pulavarty1-2/+4
This patch cleans up generic_file_*_read/write() interfaces. Christoph Hellwig gave me the idea for this clean ups. In a nutshell, all filesystems should set .aio_read/.aio_write methods and use do_sync_read/ do_sync_write() as their .read/.write methods. This allows us to cleanup all variants of generic_file_* routines. Final available interfaces: generic_file_aio_read() - read handler generic_file_aio_write() - write handler generic_file_aio_write_nolock() - no lock write handler __generic_file_aio_write_nolock() - internal worker routine Signed-off-by: Badari Pulavarty <pbadari@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-06-28[PATCH] mark address_space_operations constChristoph Hellwig1-1/+1

2006-03-28[PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven1-1/+1
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-01-06[PATCH] NOMMU: Provide shared-writable mmap support on ramfsDavid Howells1-0/+57
The attached patch makes ramfs support shared-writable mmaps by: (1) Attempting to perform a contiguous block allocation to the requested size when truncate attempts to increase the file from zero size, such as happens when: fd = shm_open("/file/on/ramfs", ...): ftruncate(fd, size_requested); addr = mmap(NULL, subsize, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE|PROT_EXEC, MAP_SHARED, fd, offset); (2) Permitting any shared-writable mapping over any contiguous set of extant pages. get_unmapped_area() will return the address into the actual ramfs pages. The mapping may start anywhere and be of any size, but may not go over the end of file. Multiple mappings may overlap in any way. (3) Not permitting a file to be shrunk if it would truncate any shared mappings (private mappings are copied). Thus this patch provides support for POSIX shared memory on NOMMU kernels, with certain limitations such as there being a large enough block of pages available to support the allocation and it only working on directly mappable filesystems.
