2008-11-19cirrusfb: remove unused variablesVlada Peric1-2/+1
After commit a1d35a7a (cirrusfb: use modedb and add mode_option parameter), these variables are no longer used, so remove them to fix compilation warning. 2008-11-01section fixes for cirrusfbAl Viro1-1/+1
cirrusfb_zorro_unmap() may be called both from __devexit and (on cleanup path) from __devinit. So it needs to be a normal function, same as for cirrusfb_pci_unmap() Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-10-16cirrusfb: do not change MCLK for Alpine chipsKrzysztof Helt1-66/+53
A memory clock value (MCLK) is changed to a minimum required by a current mode bandwidth. This usually lowers the MCLK to its minimum (50 MHz) thus decreasing the card performance. Just leave the MCLK value set by card BIOS. The CL-GD5446 Technical Reference Manual point 9.9.1.3 states that if a pixclock value is close (~1%) to the MCLK or MCLK/2 this may result in a jitter on the screen. A countermeasure is to use the MCLK as pixclock source instead of a VCLK. The patch implements this as well. 2008-10-16cirrusfb: fix 16bpp modesKrzysztof Helt1-5/+2
The 16bpp mode did not work on the Cirrus cards as the visual type was set to DIRECTCOLOR instead of TRUECOLOR. The Alpine family used one incorrect register setting so this 16bpp modes generated wrong horizontal frequency. 2008-10-16cirrusfb: drop clock fields from cirrusfb_regs structureKrzysztof Helt1-29/+21

MAX_NR_CONSOLES, fg_console, want_console and last_console are more of a function of the VT layer than the TTY one. 2006-06-26[PATCH] Detaching fbcon: remove calls to pci_disable_device()Antonino A. Daplas1-2/+0
Detaching fbcon allows individual drivers to be unloaded. However several drivers call pci_disable_device() upon exit. This function will disable the BAR's which will kill VGA text mode and/or affect X/DRM. To prevent this, remove calls to pci_disable_device() from several drivers. 2006-03-28[PATCH] powerpc: Kill _machine and hard-coded platform numbersBenjamin Herrenschmidt1-2/+2
This removes statically assigned platform numbers and reworks the powerpc platform probe code to use a better mechanism. With this, board support files can simply declare a new machine type with a macro, and implement a probe() function that uses the flattened device-tree to detect if they apply for a given machine. We now have a machine_is() macro that replaces the comparisons of _machine with the various PLATFORM_* constants. This commit also changes various drivers to use the new macro instead of looking at _machine. 2006-03-25[PATCH] amiga: fix driver_register() return handling, remove zorro_module_init()Bjorn Helgaas1-1/+1
Remove the assumption that driver_register() returns the number of devices bound to the driver. In fact, it returns zero for success or a negative error value. zorro_module_init() used the device count to automatically unregister and unload drivers that found no devices. That might have worked at one time, but has been broken for some time because zorro_register_driver() returned either a negative error or a positive count (never zero). So it could only unregister on failure, when it's not needed anyway. This functionality could be resurrected in individual drivers by counting devices in their .probe() methods. 2005-11-07[PATCH] fbcon/fbdev: Move softcursor out of fbdev to fbconAntonino A. Daplas1-1/+0
According to Jon Smirl, filling in the field fb_cursor with soft_cursor for drivers that do not support hardware cursors is redundant. The soft_cursor function is usable by all drivers because it is just a wrapper around fb_imageblit. And because soft_cursor is an fbcon-specific hook, the file is moved to the console directory. Thus, drivers that do not support hardware cursors can leave the fb_cursor field blank. For drivers that do, they can fill up this field with their own version. The end result is a smaller code size. And if the framebuffer console is not loaded, module/kernel size is also reduced because the soft_cursor module will also not be loaded. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
