One point is to have less places where we actually need tty pointer. The other is that low_latency is bound to buffer processing and buffers are now in tty_port. 2012-11-15TTY: call tty_port_destroy in the rest of driversJiri Slaby1-0/+2
After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this assumption. To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places. This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed. This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places. 2012-08-13TTY: tty3270, add tty installJiri Slaby1-9/+22
This has two outcomes: * we give the TTY layer a tty_port * we do not find the info structure every time open is called on that tty In this case ->install is the only thing we want to do. We do not need ->open at all. See the tty->count > 1 check. And since we take a reference in ->install, we need also ->cleanup to drop the reference to a view. Final note, see that we leave raw3270_find_view in place. It is because views are removed even from module_exit. This looks like it was a mistake not to create device nodes for these drivers. Let us create them from now on. It will be necessary to call tty_register_device some way, either by tty_register_driver implicitly or to call tty_register_device proper. Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. Lockdep found a problem with the lock order of the view lock and the ccw device lock. raw3270_activate_view/raw3270_deactivate_view first take the ccw device lock then call the activate/deactivate functions of the view which take view lock. The update functions of the con3270/tty3270 view will first take the view lock, then take the ccw device lock. To fix this the activate/deactivate functions are changed to avoid taking the view lock by moving the functions calls that modify the 3270 output buffer to the update function which is called by a timer. The tty3270_notifier that calls tty_register_device / tty_unregister_device is harmful in two ways: 1) the device node that is create is wrong because the minor numbers for 3270 tty start with 1 and tty_notifier passes the minor as index. 2) If 1) is corrected you'll get a warning: WARNING: at fs/sysfs/dir.c:462 sysfs_add_one+0x4c/0x60() sysfs: duplicate filename '227:1' can not be created The 227:1 link is already created by raw3270_create_attributes to refer to ../../class/tty/tty<devno>. 2006-10-02[PATCH] const struct tty_operationsJeff Dike1-1/+1
As part of an SMP cleanliness pass over UML, I consted a bunch of structures in order to not have to document their locking. One of these structures was a struct tty_operations. In order to const it in UML without introducing compiler complaints, the declaration of tty_set_operations needs to be changed, and then all of its callers need to be fixed. This patch declares all struct tty_operations in the tree as const. In all cases, they are static and used only as input to tty_set_operations. As an extra check, I ran an i386 allyesconfig build which produced no extra warnings. 53 drivers are affected. I checked the history of a bunch of them, and in most cases, there have been only a handful of maintenance changes in the last six months. serial_core.c was the busiest one that I looked at.
