2021-10-11PCI/VPD: Add pci_read/write_vpd_any()Heiner Kallweit1-22/+50
In certain cases we need a variant of pci_read_vpd()/pci_write_vpd() that does not check against dev->vpd.len. Such cases are: - Reading VPD if dev->vpd.len isn't set yet (in pci_vpd_size()) - Devices that map non-VPD information to arbitrary places in VPD address space (example: Chelsio T3 EEPROM write-protect flag) Therefore add pci_read_vpd_any() and pci_write_vpd_any() that check against PCI_VPD_MAX_SIZE only. 2021-09-15PCI/VPD: Defer VPD sizing until first accessBjorn Helgaas1-10/+26
7bac54497c3e ("PCI/VPD: Determine VPD size in pci_vpd_init()") reads VPD at enumeration-time to find the size. But this is quite slow, and we don't need the size until we actually need data from VPD. Dave reported a boot slowdown of more than two minutes [1]. Defer the VPD sizing until a driver or the user (via sysfs) requests information from VPD. If devices are quirked because VPD is known not to work, don't bother even looking for the VPD capability. The VPD will not be accessible at all. 2021-08-31PCI/VPD: Clean up public VPD defines and inline functionsHeiner Kallweit1-0/+26
After recent introduction of new VPD API functions and user migration these defines and inline functions aren't used outside VPD core any longer. 2021-08-20PCI/VPD: Add pci_vpd_find_ro_info_keyword()Heiner Kallweit1-0/+33
All users of pci_vpd_find_info_keyword() are interested in the VPD RO section only. In addition all calls are followed by the same activities to calculate start of tag data area and size of the data area. Add pci_vpd_find_ro_info_keyword() that combines these functionalities. pci_vpd_find_info_keyword() can be phased out once all users are converted. 2021-08-20PCI/VPD: Add pci_vpd_alloc()Heiner Kallweit1-0/+26
Several users of the VPD API use a fixed-size buffer and read the VPD into it for further usage. This requires special handling for the case that the buffer isn't big enough to hold the full VPD data. Also the buffer is often allocated on the stack, which isn't too nice. Add pci_vpd_alloc() to dynamically allocate buffer of the correct size and read VPD into it. 2021-08-12PCI/VPD: Treat invalid VPD like missing VPD capabilityHeiner Kallweit1-6/+3
Exporting sysfs files that can't be accessed doesn't make much sense. Therefore, if either a quirk or the dynamic size calculation result in VPD being marked as invalid, treat this as though the device has no VPD capability. One consequence is that the "vpd" sysfs file is not visible. 2021-08-12PCI/VPD: Determine VPD size in pci_vpd_init()Heiner Kallweit1-23/+19
Determine VPD size in pci_vpd_init(). Quirks set dev->vpd.len to a non-zero value, so they cause us to skip the dynamic size calculation. Prerequisite is that we move the quirks from FINAL to HEADER so they are run before pci_vpd_init(). 2021-08-12PCI/VPD: Embed struct pci_vpd in struct pci_devHeiner Kallweit1-49/+14

2021-08-12PCI/VPD: Remove struct pci_vpd.valid memberHeiner Kallweit1-17/+12

2021-08-12PCI/VPD: Remove struct pci_vpd_opsHeiner Kallweit1-54/+32
Some multi-function devices share VPD hardware across functions and don't work correctly for concurrent VPD accesses to different functions. Struct pci_vpd_ops was added by 932c435caba8 ("PCI: Add dev_flags bit to access VPD through function 0") so that on these devices, VPD accesses to any function would always go to function 0. It's easier to just check for the PCI_DEV_FLAGS_VPD_REF_F0 quirk bit in the two places we need it than to deal with the struct pci_vpd_ops. Simplify the code by removing struct pci_vpd_ops and removing the indirect calls. 2021-08-09PCI/VPD: Remove struct pci_vpd.flagHeiner Kallweit1-7/+5

2021-08-09PCI/VPD: Make pci_vpd_wait() uninterruptibleHeiner Kallweit1-24/+9
Reading/writing 4 bytes should be fast enough even on a slow bus, therefore pci_vpd_wait() doesn't have to be interruptible. Making it uninterruptible allows to simplify the code. In addition make VPD writes uninterruptible in general. It's about vital data, and allowing writes to be interruptible may leave the VPD in an inconsistent state. 2021-08-09PCI/VPD: Remove pci_vpd_size() old_size argumentHeiner Kallweit1-5/+5
vpd->len is initialized to PCI_VPD_MAX_SIZE, and if a quirk is used to set a specific VPD size, then pci_vpd_set_size() sets vpd->valid, resulting in pci_vpd_size() not being called. Therefore we can remove the old_size argument. Note that we don't have to check off < PCI_VPD_MAX_SIZE because that's implicitly done by pci_read_vpd(). 2021-08-09PCI/VPD: Allow access to valid parts of VPD if some is invalidBjorn Helgaas1-3/+3
Previously, if we found any error in the VPD, we returned size 0, which prevents access to all of VPD. But there may be valid resources in VPD before the error, and there's no reason to prevent access to those. "off" covers only VPD resources known to have valid header tags. 2021-08-09PCI/VPD: Don't check Large Resource Item Names for validityBjorn Helgaas1-19/+8
VPD consists of a series of Small and Large Resources. Computing the size of VPD requires only the length of each, which is specified in the generic tag of each resource. We only expect to see ID_STRING, RO_DATA, and RW_DATA in VPD, but it's not a problem if it contains other resource types because all we care about is the size. 2021-04-30PCI: Allow VPD access for QLogic ISP2722Arun Easi1-1/+0
0d5370d1d852 ("PCI: Prevent VPD access for QLogic ISP2722") disabled access to VPD of the ISP2722-based 16/32Gb Fibre Channel to PCIe Adapter because reading past the end of the VPD caused NMIs. 104daa71b396 ("PCI: Determine actual VPD size on first access") limits reads to the actual size of VPD, which should prevent these NMIs. 104daa71b396 was merged *before* 0d5370d1d852, but we think the testing that prompted 0d5370d1d852 ("PCI: Prevent VPD access for QLogic ISP2722") was done with a kernel that lacked 104daa71b396. The "vpd" sysfs attribute allows access to Vital Product Data (VPD). Previously it was dynamically created either by pci_bus_add_device() or the pci_sysfs_init() initcall, but since it doesn't need to be created or removed dynamically, we can use a static attribute so the device model takes care of addition and removal automatically. Convert "vpd" to a static attribute and use the .is_bin_visible() callback to check whether the device supports VPD. 2021-03-30PCI/VPD: Remove obsolete Broadcom NIC quirkHeiner Kallweit1-46/+0
quirk_brcm_570x_limit_vpd() was added in 2008 [0] when we didn't have the logic to determine VPD size based on checking for the VPD end tag. Now that we do have this logic [1] and don't read beyond the end tag, this quirk can be removed. [0] 99cb233d60cb ("PCI: Limit VPD read/write lengths for Broadcom 5706, 5708, 5709 rev.") 2019-09-16PCI/VPD: Prevent VPD access for Amazon's Annapurna Labs Root PortJonathan Chocron1-0/+6
The Amazon Annapurna Labs PCIe Root Port exposes the VPD capability, but there is no actual support for it. Trying to access the VPD (for example, as part of lspci -vv or when reading the vpd sysfs file), results in the following warning print: pcieport 0001:00:00.0: VPD access failed. This is likely a firmware bug on this device.
