This patch fixes my recent commit: ed61e2b02027935520d1be884fac0b2ffce8379a "rt2x00: rt2800usb: rework txdone code" We should reread status register only when nobody else start already reading status i.e. test_and_set_bit(TX_STATUS_READING, flags) return 0. 2012-03-15rt2x00: rt2800usb: limit tx queues lengthStanislaw Gruszka1-1/+1
TX status fifo is limited to 16 elements. When we send more frames than that, we can easily loose status, what is not good for rate scaling algorithm. On my testing the change does not degrade performance, actually make is slightly better. Additionally with the patch I can see much less various rt2x00 warnings in dmesg. 2012-03-15rt2x00: rt2800usb: do not check packedid for aggregated framesStanislaw Gruszka1-2/+3
Tx statuses of aggregated subframes contain packetid of first subframe in the AMPDU. We can not identify AMPDU subframes based on packedid, so simply assume that status match first pending frame in the queue. Thats mostly the same what 2800pci do. 2012-03-15rt2x00: rt2800usb: rework txstatus codeStanislaw Gruszka1-30/+90
Currently we read tx status register after each urb data transfer. As callback procedure also trigger reading, that causing we have many "threads" of reading status. To prevent that introduce TX_STATUS_READING flags, and check if we are already in process of sequential reading TX_STA_FIFO, before requesting new reads. Change timer to hrtimer, that make TX_STA_FIFO overruns less possible. Use 200 us for initial timeout, and then reschedule in 100 us period, this values probably have to be tuned. Make changes on txdone work. Schedule it from rt2800usb_tx_sta_fifo_read_completed() callback when first valid status show up. Check in callback if tx status timeout happens, and schedule work on that condition too. That make possible to remove tx status timeout from generic watchdog. I moved that to rt2800usb. Loop in txdone work, that should prevent situation when we queue work, which is already processed, and after finish work is not rescheduled again. Patch change txdone code to make it similar like txdone in rt2800pci, process only one entry from queue matching tx status. Before we processed all pending entries from queue until PACKEDID match, that caused that we do not report tx statuses correctly. 2012-01-04rt2800usb: Let rt2x00usb handle USB paddingJakub Kiciński1-27/+10
Older USB drivers does not append end padding to skb but instead report it in size of data to be transmitted to HW. rt2800usb should follow that behaviour. Custom write_tx_data callback which was adding pad to skb is not be needed any more. Thanks to this patch frames handed back from rt2800usb to mac80211 will no longer contain end padding. 2011-09-14rt2x00: Make use of sta_add/remove callbacks in rt2800Helmut Schaa1-0/+4
This allows us to assign a WCID to each STA even for STAs without crypto key. To achieve this search for an unused WCID in the HW WCID table and assign it to the according STA. When configuring a pairwise key for this STA we don't need to write the MAC address and BSSIDX anymore but just update the crypto related fields in the WCID_ATTR table. This has two advantages: 1) Setting a new key for an already available STA (PTK rekeying) is slightly less expensive and should improve performance in situations where a lot of rekeying happens (e.g. a huge number of stations and/or a small rekeying interval) 2) The TXWI now gets a WCID assigned for unencrypted frames which will be reflected in the corresponding tx status report. This should make tx status reports in unencrypted AP mode more reliable as we can distinguish between multiple key-less STAs. This would exactly mimic the behaviour of the legacy vendor driver which also doesn't go in powersave mode if there are still TX frames that are not transmitted. This should make powersaving and rt2x00 a better couple. The USB drivers don't support automatically waking up when in powersaving mode, add a work object which will wakeup the device in time to receive the next beacon. Based on that beacon, we either go back into powersaving mode, or we remain awake to receive the buffered frames for our station. All register reads/writes in rt2800usb were previously done with rt2800_register_read/rt2800_register_write. These however indirectly call rt2x00usb_register_read/rt2x00usb_register_write which adds an additional overhead of at least one call and several move instructions to each register access. Replacing the calls to rt2800_register_read/rt2800_register_write with direct calls to rt2x00usb_register_read/rt2x00usb_register_write gets rid of quite a number of instructions in the drivers hotpaths (IRQ handling and txdone handling). 2011-04-19rt2x00: Allow dynamic addition of PCI/USB IDs.Gertjan van Wingerde1-217/+223
Both USB and PCI drivers allow a system administrator to dynamically add USB/PCI IDs to the device table that a driver supports via the /sys/bus/{usb,pci,pci_express}/drivers/<driver-name>/new_id files. However, for the rt2x00 drivers using this method currently crashes the system with a NULL pointer failure. This is due to the set-up of rt2x00 where the probe functions require a rt2x00_ops structure in the driver_info field of the probed device. As this field is empty for the dynamically added devices this fails for these devices. Fix this by introducing driver-specific probe wrappers that do nothing but calling the bus-specific probe functions with the rt2x00_ops structure as an argument, rather than depending on the driver_info field. TX status is reported by the hardware when a packet has been sent (or after TX failed after possible retries), which is some time after the DMA completion. Since the rt2800usb hardware can not signal interrupts we have to use a timer, otherwise the TX status would only be read by the next packet's TX DMA completion, or by the watchdog thread. Trying to fix the "TX status report missed" warnings by reading the TX_STA_FIFO entries as quickly as possible. The TX_STA_FIFO is too small in hardware, thus reading it only from the workqueue is too slow and entries get lost. Start an asynchronous read of the TX_STA_FIFO directly from the TX URB completion callback (atomic context, thus it cannot use the blocking rt2800_register_read()). If the async read returns a valid FIFO entry, it is pushed into a larger FIFO inside struct rt2x00_dev, until rt2800_txdone() picks it up. A .tx_dma_done callback is added to struct rt2x00lib_ops to trigger the async read from the URB completion callback. The number of flags defined for the rt2x00dev->flags field, has been growing over the years. Currently we are approaching the maximum number of bits which are available in the field. A secondary problem, is that one part of the field are initialized only during boot, because the driver requirements are initialized or device requirements are loaded from the EEPROM. In both cases, the flags are fixed and will not change during device operation. The other flags are the device state, and will change frequently. So far this resulted in the fact that for some flags, the atomic bit accessors are used, while for the others the non-atomic variants are used. By splitting the flags up into a "flags" and "cap_flags" we can put all flags which are fixed inside "cap_flags". This field can then be read non-atomically. In the "flags" field we keep the device state, which is going to be read atomically. This adds more room for more flags in the future, and sanitizes the field access methods.
