2010-02-16percpu: add __percpu sparse annotations to net driversTejun Heo1-1/+1
Add __percpu sparse annotations to net drivers. These annotations are to make sparse consider percpu variables to be in a different address space and warn if accessed without going through percpu accessors. This patch doesn't affect normal builds. 2010-02-12net: use netdev_mc_count and netdev_mc_empty when appropriateJiri Pirko1-2/+2
This patch replaces dev->mc_count in all drivers (hopefully I didn't miss anything). Used spatch and did small tweaks and conding style changes when it was suitable. Jirka Signed-off-by: Jiri Pirko <jpirko@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-05-29net: dont update dev->trans_start in 10GB driversEric Dumazet1-1/+0
Followup of commits 9d21493b4beb8f918ba248032fefa393074a5e2b and 08baf561083bc27a953aa087dd8a664bb2b88e8e (net: tx scalability works : trans_start) (net: txq_trans_update() helper) Now that core network takes care of trans_start updates, dont do it in drivers themselves, if possible. Multi queue drivers can avoid one cache miss (on dev->trans_start) in their start_xmit() handler. Exceptions are NETIF_F_LLTX drivers (vxge & tehuti) Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-01-21net: Remove redundant NAPI functionsBen Hutchings1-2/+2

2008-11-20netdev: add more functions to netdevice opsStephen Hemminger1-3/+3
This patch moves neigh_setup and hard_start_xmit into the network device ops structure. For bisection, fix all the previously converted drivers as well. Bonding driver took the biggest hit on this. Added a prefetch of the hard_start_xmit in the fast path to try and reduce any impact this would have. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-11-03drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller1-1/+0
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-10-10[ETHTOOL] Provide default behaviors for a few ethtool sub-ioctlsJeff Garzik1-3/+0
For the operations get-tx-csum get-sg get-tso get-ufo the default ethtool_op_xxx behavior is fine for all drivers, so we permit op==NULL to imply the default behavior. This provides a more uniform behavior across all drivers, eliminating ethtool(8) "ioctl not supported" errors on older drivers that had not been updated for the latest sub-ioctls. The ethtool_op_xxx() functions are left exported, in case anyone wishes to call them directly from a driver-private implementation -- a not-uncommon case. Should an ethtool_op_xxx() helper remain unused for a while, except by net/core/ethtool.c, we can un-export it at a later date. 2007-10-10[NET]: Nuke SET_MODULE_OWNER macro.Ralf Baechle1-1/+0
It's been a useless no-op for long enough in 2.6 so I figured it's time to remove it. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.Stephen Hemminger4-20/+21
Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several queues. In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the structure representing the poll is independant from the net device itself. The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from: int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget) to int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget) The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the caller upon return. The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data structures. Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures, only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances it may have per-device. With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier, Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim. Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra, Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan. [ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. 2007-06-03network drivers: eliminate unneeded kill_vid codeStephen Hemminger1-10/+0
Many drivers had code that did kill_vid, but they weren't doing vlan filtering. With new API the stub is unneeded unless device sets NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_FILTER. 2007-03-02[VLAN]: Avoid a 4-order allocation.Dan Aloni1-2/+1
This patch splits the vlan_group struct into a multi-allocated struct. On x86_64, the size of the original struct is a little more than 32KB, causing a 4-order allocation, which is prune to problems caused by buddy-system external fragmentation conditions.
