2022-07-14mei: me: fix clang -Wformat warningJustin Stitt1-1/+1
When building with Clang we encounter the following warning: | drivers/misc/mei/hw-me.c:564:44: error: format specifies type 'unsigned | short' but the argument has type 'int' [-Werror,-Wformat] | dev_dbg(dev->dev, "empty slots = %hu.\n", empty_slots); The format specifier used is `%hu` which specifies an unsigned short, however, empty_slots is an int -- hence the warning. 2022-04-29misc/mei: Add NULL check to component match callback functionsWon Chung2-2/+2
Currently, component_match callback functions used in mei refers to the driver name, assuming that the component device being matched has a driver bound. It can cause a NULL pointer dereference when a device without a driver bound registers a component. This is due to the nature of the component framework where all registered components are matched in any component_match callback functions. So even if a component is registered by a totally irrelevant device, that component is also shared to these callbacks for i915 driver. To prevent totally irrelevant device being matched for i915 and causing a NULL pointer dereference for checking driver name, add a NULL check on dev->driver to check if there is a driver bound before checking the driver name. In the future, the string compare on the driver name, "i915" may need to be refactored too. 2022-03-18mei: avoid iterator usage outside of list_for_each_entryAlexander Usyskin1-20/+15
Usage of the iterator outside of the list_for_each_entry is considered harmful. https://lkml.org/lkml/2022/2/17/1032 Do not reference the loop variable outside of the loop, by rearranging the orders of execution. Instead of performing search loop and checking outside the loop if the end of the list was hit and no matching element was found, the execution is performed inside the loop upon a successful match followed by a goto statement to the next step, therefore no condition has to be performed after the loop has ended. 2022-01-23mei: me: Use dma_set_mask_and_coherent() and simplify codeChristophe JAILLET1-8/+2
Use dma_set_mask_and_coherent() instead of unrolling it with some dma_set_mask()+dma_set_coherent_mask(). Moreover, as stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask will never fail if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL. So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason. Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly. While at it, include directly <linux/dma-mapping.h> instead on relying on indirect inclusion. In [1], Christoph Hellwig has proposed to remove the wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h. Some reasons why this API should be removed have been given by Julia Lawall in [2]. Finally, Arnd Bergmann reminded that the documentation was updated 11 years ago to only describe the modern linux/dma-mapping.h interfaces and mark the old bus-specific ones as no longer recommended, see commit 216bf58f4092 ("Documentation: convert PCI-DMA-mapping.txt to use the generic DMA API"). 2021-07-21bus: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+1
The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there is only little it can do when a device disappears. This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback. Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go away. With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate wrong expectations for driver authors. 2021-02-09mei: bus: change remove callback to return voidUwe Kleine-König2-5/+7
The driver core ignores the return value of mei_cl_device_remove() so passing an error value doesn't solve any problem. As most mei drivers' remove callbacks return 0 unconditionally and returning a different value doesn't have any effect, change this prototype to return void and return 0 unconditionally in mei_cl_device_remove(). The only driver that could return an error value is modified to emit an explicit warning in the error case. 2021-02-09mei: bus: simplify mei_cl_device_remove()Uwe Kleine-König1-5/+1
The driver core only calls a bus' remove function when there is actually a driver and a device. So drop the needless check and assign cldrv earlier. (Side note: The check for cldev being non-NULL is broken anyhow, because to_mei_cl_device() is a wrapper around container_of() for a member that is not the first one. So cldev only can become NULL if dev is (void *)0xc (for archs with 32 bit pointers) or (void *)0x18 (for archs with 64 bit pointers).)
