A reference to the carrier module was taken on every open but was only released once when the final reference to the tty struct was dropped. 2021-09-27ipack: ipoctal: fix stack information leakJohan Hovold1-5/+14
The tty driver name is used also after registering the driver and must specifically not be allocated on the stack to avoid leaking information to user space (or triggering an oops). Drivers should not try to encode topology information in the tty device name but this one snuck in through staging without anyone noticing and another driver has since copied this malpractice. Fixing the ABI is a separate issue, but this at least plugs the security hole. 2021-08-13ipack: tpci200: fix many double free issues in tpci200_pci_probeDongliang Mu1-18/+18
The function tpci200_register called by tpci200_install and tpci200_unregister called by tpci200_uninstall are in pair. However, tpci200_unregister has some cleanup operations not in the tpci200_register. So the error handling code of tpci200_pci_probe has many different double free issues. Fix this problem by moving those cleanup operations out of tpci200_unregister, into tpci200_pci_remove and reverting the previous commit 9272e5d0028d ("ipack/carriers/tpci200: Fix a double free in tpci200_pci_probe"). 2021-07-27tty: stop using alloc_tty_driverJiri Slaby1-5/+4
alloc_tty_driver was deprecated by tty_alloc_driver in commit 7f0bc6a68ed9 (TTY: pass flags to alloc_tty_driver) in 2012. I never got into eliminating alloc_tty_driver until now. So we still have two functions for allocating drivers which might be confusing. So get rid of alloc_tty_driver uses to eliminate it for good in the next patch. Note we need to switch return value checking as tty_alloc_driver uses ERR_PTR. And flags are now a parameter of tty_alloc_driver. 2021-07-21bus: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+1
The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there is only little it can do when a device disappears. This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback. Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go away. With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate wrong expectations for driver authors. In the out_err_bus_register error branch of tpci200_pci_probe, tpci200->info->cfg_regs is freed by tpci200_uninstall()-> tpci200_unregister()->pci_iounmap(..,tpci200->info->cfg_regs) in the first time. But later, iounmap() is called to free tpci200->info->cfg_regs again. My patch sets tpci200->info->cfg_regs to NULL after tpci200_uninstall() to avoid the double free. 2014-09-23ipoctal: clear break interrupt as soon as it occursFederico Vaga1-1/+3
In some condition we receive the break interrupt but nothing is putted in the Rx FIFO and the correspondend bit in the status register is not set. Thus, no-one clear the interrupt and the handler will be called forever. This patch clear the break interrupt as soon as it occurs. Then, if the break character '\0' is putted in the fifo we will manage it. We can also unmask the Break interrupt but its bit in ISR is still set on break. So I think is better to keep the registers clean. The request for an IRQ handler must be done after whole configuration. This was not the case for this driver which request the IRQ in the middle of the configuration. Sometimes, it happens that something is not completely configured, we recieve an interrupt thus we stumble into troubles in the IRQ handler. 2014-07-09ipoctal: protect only the real critical sectionFederico Vaga1-3/+2
In some conditions (echo or particular sequence of special characters), on buffer push, the tty layer calls the write operation while we are holding the spinlock. This means deadlock within the same process on kernels version < 3.12. It seems not a problem on recent kernel, but the patch still valid as locking optimization. The protected variables by the spinlock are: xmit_buf, nb_bytes, pointer_read and pointer_write. So, this patch reduces the locked area in the IRQ handler only to these variables. Most of the code inside the locked area in the IRQ handler is not protected elsewhere; it means that it is not protected at all. One function is ipack_device_init(). If it fails, the caller should execute ipack_put_device(). The second function is ipack_device_add that only adds the device. If it fails, the caller should execute ipack_put_device(). Then the device is removed with refcount = 0, as device_register() kernel documentation says. ipack_device_del() is added to remove the device. 2013-01-18tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTYJoe Millenbach1-1/+1
The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway. bloat-o-meter output is below. The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than "depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies. bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by removing TTY.
