2020-11-02drm/vc4: kms: Add functions to create the state objectsMaxime Ripard1-21/+57
In order to make the vc4_kms_load code and error path a bit easier to read and extend, add functions to create state objects, and use managed actions to cleanup if needed. 2020-09-25drm/vc4: crtc: Keep the previously assigned HVS FIFOMaxime Ripard1-6/+16
The HVS FIFOs are currently assigned each time we have an atomic_check for all the enabled CRTCs. However, if we are running multiple outputs in parallel and we happen to disable the first (by index) CRTC, we end up changing the assigned FIFO of the second CRTC without disabling and reenabling the pixelvalve which ends up in a stall and eventually a VBLANK timeout. In order to fix this, we can create a special value for our assigned channel to mark it as disabled, and if our CRTC already had an assigned channel in its previous state, we keep on using it. Fixes: 87ebcd42fb7b ("drm/vc4: crtc: Assign output to channel automatically") Signed-off-by: Maxime Ripard <maxime@cerno.tech> Tested-by: Dave Stevenson <dave.stevenson@raspberrypi.com> Reviewed-by: Dave Stevenson <dave.stevenson@raspberrypi.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20200923084032.218619-2-maxime@cerno.tech
2020-09-23drm/vc4: kms: Assign a FIFO to enabled CRTCs instead of activeMaxime Ripard1-1/+1
The HVS has three FIFOs that can be assigned to a number of PixelValves through a mux. However, changing that FIFO requires that we disable and then enable the pixelvalve, so we want to assign FIFOs to all the enabled CRTCs, and not just the active ones. 2020-09-21drm/vc4: hvs: Pull the state of all the CRTCs prior to PV muxingMaxime Ripard1-0/+17
The vc4 display engine has a first controller called the HVS that will perform the composition of the planes. That HVS has 3 FIFOs and can therefore compose planes for up to three outputs. The timings part is generated through a component called the Pixel Valve, and the BCM2711 has 6 of them. Thus, the HVS has some bits to control which FIFO gets output to which Pixel Valve. The current code supports that muxing by looking at all the CRTCs in a new DRM atomic state in atomic_check, and given the set of constraints that we have, assigns FIFOs to CRTCs or reject the mode entirely. The actual muxing will occur during atomic_commit. However, that doesn't work if only a fraction of the CRTCs' state is updated in that state, since it will ignore the CRTCs that are kept running unmodified, and will thus unassign its associated FIFO, and later disable it. In order to make the code work as expected, let's pull the CRTC state of all the enabled CRTC in our atomic_check so that we can operate on all the running CRTCs, no matter whether they are affected by the new state or not. 2020-09-07drm/vc4: crtc: Assign output to channel automaticallyMaxime Ripard1-4/+164
The HVS found in the BCM2711 has 6 outputs and 3 FIFOs, with each output being connected to a pixelvalve, and some muxing between the FIFOs and outputs. Any output cannot feed from any FIFO though, and they all have a bunch of constraints. In order to support this, let's store the possible FIFOs each output can be assigned to in the vc4_crtc_data, and use that information at atomic_check time to iterate over all the CRTCs enabled and assign them FIFOs. The channel assigned is then set in the vc4_crtc_state so that the rest of the driver can use it. 2019-03-06drm/vc4: Add a debugfs entry to disable/enable the load trackerPaul Kocialkowski1-0/+9
In order to test whether the load tracker is working as expected, we need the ability to compare the commit result with the underrun indication. With the load tracker always enabled, commits that are expected to trigger an underrun are always rejected, so userspace cannot get the actual underrun indication from the hardware. Add a debugfs entry to disable/enable the load tracker, so that a DRM commit expected to trigger an underrun can go through with the load tracker disabled. The underrun indication is then available to userspace and can be checked against the commit result with the load tracker enabled. 2019-03-06drm/vc4: Add a load tracker to prevent HVS underflow errorsBoris Brezillon1-1/+102
The HVS block is supposed to fill the pixelvalve FIFOs fast enough to meet the requested framerate. The problem is, the HVS and memory bus bandwidths are limited, and if we don't take these limitations into account we might end up with HVS underflow errors. This patch is trying to model the per-plane HVS and memory bus bandwidth consumption and take a decision at atomic_check() time whether the estimated load will fit in the HVS and membus budget. Note that we take an extra margin on the memory bus consumption to let the system run smoothly when other blocks are doing heavy use of the memory bus. Same goes for the HVS limit, except the margin is smaller in this case, since the HVS is not used by external components. 2019-01-24drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.hDaniel Vetter1-2/+2
Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. 2018-09-25drm/vc4: Use drm_fbdev_generic_setup()Noralf Trønnes1-6/+0
The CMA helper is already using the drm_fb_helper_generic_probe part of the generic fbdev emulation. This patch makes full use of the generic fbdev emulation by using its drm_client callbacks. This means that drm_mode_config_funcs->output_poll_changed and drm_driver->lastclose are now handled by the emulation code. Additionally fbdev unregister happens automatically on drm_dev_unregister(). The drm_fbdev_generic_setup() call is put after drm_dev_register() in the driver. This is done to highlight the fact that fbdev emulation is an internal client that makes use of the driver, it is not part of the driver as such. If fbdev setup fails, an error is printed, but the driver succeeds probing. drm_fbdev_generic_setup() handles mode_config.num_connector being zero. In that case it retries fbdev setup on the next .output_poll_changed. 2018-07-07drm/vc4: Use wait_for_flip_done() instead of wait_for_vblanks()Boris Brezillon1-10/+1
drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() assumes the CRTC will continuously generate VBLANK events and the vblank counter will keep increasing. While this work for a regular pipeline, it doesn't when you have the CRTC is feeding the transposer block, because this block works in oneshot mode, and, by the time we reach drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() the only VBLANK event might have already been sent and the VBLANK counter will stay unchanged, thus triggering a timeout. Luckily, we can replace the drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() call by drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done() because the only thing we want to check when calling drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() from vc4_atomic_complete_commit() is that new FBs are in use and the old ones can be safely released. drm_atomic_helper_swap_state() will be changed to interruptible waiting in the next few commits, so all drivers have to be changed to handling failure. VC4 has its own nonblocking modeset tracking through the vc4->async_modeset semaphore, so it doesn't need to stall in swap_state. Pass stall = false and BUG_ON when it returns an error. This should never happen for !stall. With instantaneous high precision vblank timestamping that updates at leading edge of vblank, the emulated "hw vblank counter" from vblank timestamping which increments at leading edge of vblank, and reliable page flip execution and completion at leading edge of vblank, we should meet the requirements for fast vblank irq disable/enable. Testing against rpi-4.12-rc5 Linux kernel with timing measurement equipment indicates this works fine, so allow immediate vblank disable for power saving. For debugging in case of unexpected trouble, booting with kernel cmdline option drm.vblankoffdelay=0 would keep vblank irqs on to approximate old behavior. v2: Respin onto drm-misc-next, per Eric's suggestion. drm_atomic_state has a complicated single owner model that tracks the single reference from allocation through to destruction on another thread - or perhaps on a local error path. We can simplify this tracking by using reference counting (at a cost of a few more atomics). 2016-08-29drm/atomic-helper: Add NO_DISABLE_AFTER_MODESET flag support for plane commitLiu Ying1-1/+1
Drivers may set the NO_DISABLE_AFTER_MODESET flag in the 'flags' parameter of the helper drm_atomic_helper_commit_planes() if the relevant display controllers(e.g., IPUv3 for imx-drm) require to disable a CRTC's planes when the CRTC is disabled. The helper would skip the ->atomic_disable call for a plane if the CRTC of the old plane state needs a modesetting operation. Of course, the drivers need to disable the planes in their CRTC disable callbacks since no one else would do that. At worst this means vblanks will be somewhat funky on a setup that very likely no one still runs. So let's just nuke it. Plan B would be to set it unconditionally in drm_vblank_init for kms drivers, instead of in each driver separately. So if this patch breaks anything please only restore the hunks in drmP.h and drm_irq.c, plus add a check for DRIVER_MODESET in drm_vblank_init. Stumbled over this in a discussion on irc with Chris.
