2014-04-01drm: Replace crtc fb with primary plane fb (v3)Matt Roper1-1/+1
Now that CRTC's have a primary plane, there's no need to track the framebuffer in the CRTC. Replace all references to the CRTC fb with the primary plane's fb. Probably a typo.. we obviously need "(bpp + 7) / 8" instead of "(bpp + 1) / 8". Unlikely to be hit in any sane code, but lets be safe. 2013-10-11drm: Add separate Kconfig option for fbdev helpersDaniel Vetter1-0/+1
For drivers which might want to disable fbdev legacy support. Select the new option in all drivers for now, so this shouldn't result in any change. Drivers need some work anyway to make fbdev support optional (if they have it implemented, that is), so the recommended way to expose this is by adding per-driver options. At least as long as most drivers don't support disabling the fbdev support. v2: Update for new drm drivers msm and rcar-du. 2013-10-09drm: kill ->gem_init_object() and friendsDavid Herrmann3-9/+0
All drivers embed gem-objects into their own buffer objects. There is no reason to keep drm_gem_object_alloc(), gem->driver_private and ->gem_init_object() anymore. New drivers are highly encouraged to do the same. There is no benefit in allocating gem-objects separately. 2013-08-19drm: remove FASYNC supportDaniel Vetter1-1/+0
So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging that up is quite a story. First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that they've created SIGIO just for that ... Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op." comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync. No merged drm driver has ever done that. After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm driver with prejudice: commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie> Date: Sun Aug 29 12:04:35 2004 +0000 Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ... Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream kernel. And we don't need any fops->fasync callback since the fcntl implementation in the kernel already implements the noop case correctly. All the gem based kms drivers really want the same function to destroy a dumb framebuffer backing storage object. So give it to them and roll it out in all drivers. This still leaves the option open for kms drivers which don't use GEM for backing storage, but it does decently simplify matters for gem drivers. In commit be8a42ae60 we inroduced a refcount problem, where on the drm_gem_prime_fd_to_handle() error path we'll call dma_buf_put() for self imported dma buffers. Fix this by taking a reference on the dma buffer in the .gem_import hook instead of assuming the caller had taken one. Besides fixing the bug this is also more logical. As we use a variable length the compiler does not realise that it is a fixed value of either 2 or 4 bytes. Instead of performing the inline comparison itself, the compiler inserts a function call to the generic memcmp routine which is optimised for long comparisons of variable length. Okay you don't really want to use udl devices as your console, but if you are unlucky enough to do so, you run into a lot of schedule while atomic due to printk being called from all sorts of funky places. So check if we are in an atomic context, and queue the damage for later, the next printk should cause it to appear. This isn't ideal, but it is simple, and seems to work okay in my testing here. 2013-01-20drm: revamp framebuffer cleanup interfacesDaniel Vetter1-0/+1
We have two classes of framebuffer - Created by the driver (atm only for fbdev), and the driver holds onto the last reference count until destruction. - Created by userspace and associated with a given fd. These framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed. Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that the driver has done this already. Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers. Three functions are involved in total: - drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference. - drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup manually). - drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs, should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last reference is gone. This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers (by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move drm core code around and update the lifetime management for framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers alive by locking mode_config.mutex. Some drivers don't have real ->create_handle callbacks. - cirrus/ast/mga200: Returns either 0 or -EINVAL. - udl: Didn't even bother with a callback, leading to a nice userspace-triggerable OOPS. - vmwgfx: This driver bothered with an implementation to return 0 as the handle (which is the canonical no-obj gem handle). All have in common that ->create_handle doesn't really make too much sense for them - that ioctl is used only for seamless fb takeover in the radeon/nouveau/i915 ddx drivers. 2013-01-20drm/<drivers>: reorder framebuffer init sequenceDaniel Vetter1-1/+1
With more fine-grained locking we can no longer rely on the big mode_config lock to prevent concurrent access to mode resources like framebuffers. Instead a framebuffer becomes accessible to other threads as soon as it is added to the relevant lookup structures. Hence it needs to be fully set up by the time drivers call drm_framebuffer_init. This patch here is the drivers part of that reorg. Nothing really fancy going on safe for three special cases. - exynos needs to be careful to properly unref all handles. - nouveau gets a resource leak fixed for free: one of the error cases didn't cleanup the framebuffer, which is now moot since the framebuffer is only registered once it is fully set up. - vmwgfx requires a slight reordering of operations, I'm hoping I didn't break anything (but it's refcount management only, so should be safe). v2: Split out exynos, since it's a bit more hairy than expected. v3: Drop bogus cirrus hunk noticed by Richard Wilbur. v4: Split out vmwgfx since there's a small change in return values. 2013-01-14udldrmfb: Fix EDID not working with monitors with EDID extension blocksHans de Goede1-0/+8
udldrmfb only reads the main EDID block, and if that advertises extensions the drm_edid code expects them to be present, and starts reading beyond the buffer udldrmfb passes it. Although it may be possible to read more EDID info with the udl we simpy don't know how, and even if trial and error gets it working on one device, that is no guarantee it will work on other revisions. So this patch does a simple fix in the form of patching the EDID info to report 0 extension blocks, this fixes udldrmfb only doing 1024x768 on monitors with EDID extension blocks. 2012-11-02drm/udl: fix stride issues scanning out stride != width*bppDave Airlie3-8/+11
When buffer sharing with the i915 and using a 1680x1050 monitor, the i915 gives is a 6912 buffer for the 6720 width, the code doesn't render this properly as it uses one value to set the base address for reading from the vmap and for where to start on the device. This fixes it by calculating the values correctly for the device and for the pixmap. No idea how I haven't seen this before now. They are now #included via drmP.h and drm_crtc.h via a preceding patch. Without this patch and the patch to make include the UAPI headers from the core headers, after the UAPI split, the DRM C sources cannot find these UAPI headers because the DRM code relies on specific -I flags to make #include "..." work on headers in include/drm/ - but that does not work after the UAPI split without adding more -I flags.
