2019-01-24drm/i915/backlight: Fix backlight takeover on LPT, v3.Maarten Lankhorst1-4/+22
On lynxpoint the bios sometimes sets up the backlight using the CPU display, but the driver expects using the PWM PCH override register. Read the value from the CPU register, then convert it to the other units by converting from the old duty cycle, to freq, to the new units. This value is then programmed in the override register, after which we set the override and disable the CPU display control. This allows us to switch the source without flickering, and make the backlight controls work in the driver. 2019-01-24drm/i915/backlight: Restore backlight on resume, v3.Maarten Lankhorst1-11/+38
Restore our saved values for backlight. This way even with fastset on S4 resume we will correctly restore the backlight to the active values. Changes since v1: - Call enable_backlight() when backlight.level is set. On suspend backlight.enabled is always cleared, this makes it not a good indicator. Also check for crtc->state->active. Frequently, we use intel_runtime_pm_get/_put around a small block. Formalise that usage by providing a macro to define such a block with an automatic closure to scope the intel_runtime_pm wakeref to that block, i.e. macro abuse smelling of python. 2019-01-14drm/i915: Markup paired operations on wakerefsChris Wilson1-1/+1
The majority of runtime-pm operations are bounded and scoped within a function; these are easy to verify that the wakeref are handled correctly. We can employ the compiler to help us, and reduce the number of wakerefs tracked when debugging, by passing around cookies provided by the various rpm_get functions to their rpm_put counterpart. This makes the pairing explicit, and given the required wakeref cookie the compiler can verify that we pass an initialised value to the rpm_put (quite handy for double checking error paths). For regular builds, the compiler should be able to eliminate the unused local variables and the program growth should be minimal. Define IS_GEN() similarly to our IS_GEN_RANGE(). but use gen instead of gen_mask to do the comparison. Now callers can pass then gen as a parameter, so we don't require one macro for each gen. Use intel_panel_actually_set_backlight() instead of a direct call to pwm_config() in pwm_disable_backlight(). The main benefit is consistent debug logging when we turn off the backlight. Currently we see nothing in dmesg which made me wonder whether the backlight was even getting turned off properly. The second benefit is consistency; This is what we do for all the other backlight implementations. Currently, we are using a bool in CRTC state (state->ycbcr420), to indicate modeset, that the output format is YCBCR 4:2:0. Now in order to support other YCBCR formats, we will need more such flags. This patch adds a new enum parameter for YCBCR 4:2:0 outputs, in the CRTC output formats and then plugs it during the modeset. 2018-10-09drm/i915: Do intel_panel_destroy_backlight() laterVille Syrjälä1-4/+3
Currently we destroy the backlight during connector unregistration. That means the final modeset performed by drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() will leave the backlight on. We don't want that so let's just move intel_panel_destroy_backlight() into intel_panel_fini() which gets called during connector destuction. We still unregister the user visible backlight device during connector unregistration. This reverts commit dc911f5bd8aacfcf8aabd5c26c88e04c837a938e. Per the report, no matter what display mode you select with xrandr, the i915 driver will always select the alternate fixed mode. For the reporter this means that the display will always run at 40Hz which is quite annoying. This may be due to the mode comparison. But there are some other potential issues. The choice of alt_fixed_mode seems dubious. It's the first non-preferred mode, but there are no guarantees that the only difference would be refresh rate. Similarly, there may be more than one preferred mode in the probed modes list, and the commit changes the preferred mode selection to choose the last one on the list instead of the first. (Note that the probed modes list is the raw, unfiltered, unsorted list of modes from drm_add_edid_modes(), not the pretty result after a drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes() call.) Finally, we already have eerily similar code in place to find the downclock mode for DRRS that seems like could be reused here. Back to the drawing board. Some fixed resolution panels actually support more than one mode, with the only thing different being the refresh rate. Having this alternate mode available to us is desirable, because it allows us to test PSR on panels whose setup time at the preferred mode is too long. When we started following the backlight minimum brightness in 6dda730e55f4 ("drm/i915: respect the VBT minimum backlight brightness") we overlooked the brightness invert quirk. Even if we invert the brightness, we need to take the min limit into account. We probably missed this because the invert has only been required on gen4 for proper operation. Pass crtc_state to the enable callback, and connector_state to all callbacks. This will eliminate the need to guess for the correct pipe in these callbacks. The crtc state is required for pch_enable_backlight to obtain the correct cpu_transcoder. intel_dp_aux_backlight's setup function is called before hw readout, so crtc_state and connector_state->best_encoder are NULL in the enable() and set() callbacks. Introduce intel_cdclk state which for now will track the cdclk frequency, the vco frequency and the reference frequency (not sure we want the last one, but I put it there anyway). We'll also make the .get_cdclk() function fill out this state structure rather than just returning the current cdclk frequency. One immediate benefit is that calling .get_cdclk() will no longer clobber state stored under dev_priv unless ex[plicitly told to do so. Previously it clobbered the vco and reference clocks stored there on some platforms. Call pwm_apply_args() just after requesting the PWM device so that the polarity and period are initialized according to the information provided in pwm_args. This is an intermediate state, and pwm_apply_args() should be dropped as soon as the atomic PWM infrastructure is in place and the driver makes use of it.
