2021-08-10drm: IRQ midlayer is now legacyThomas Zimmermann1-2/+1
Hide the DRM midlayer behind CONFIG_DRM_LEGACY, make functions use the prefix drm_legacy_, and move declarations to drm_legacy.h. In struct drm_device, move the fields irq and irq_enabled behind CONFIG_DRM_LEGACY. All callers have been updated. 2021-05-10drm: Mark AGP implementation and ioctls as legacyThomas Zimmermann1-2/+1
Only UMs drivers use DRM's core AGP code and ioctls. Mark the icotls as legacy. Add the _legacy_ infix to all AGP functions. Move the declarations to the public and internal legacy header files. The agp field in struct drm_device is now located in the structure's legacy section. Adapt drivers to the changes. AGP code now depends on CONFIG_DRM_LEGACY. 2020-07-20drm/i810: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' APIChristophe JAILLET1-5/+5
The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'i810_dma_initialize()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because its only caller, 'i810_dma_init()', already use it and no lock is taken in the between. @@ @@ - PCI_DMA_BIDIRECTIONAL + DMA_BIDIRECTIONAL @@ @@ - PCI_DMA_TODEVICE + DMA_TO_DEVICE @@ @@ - PCI_DMA_FROMDEVICE + DMA_FROM_DEVICE @@ @@ - PCI_DMA_NONE + DMA_NONE @@ expression e1, e2, e3; @@ - pci_alloc_consistent(e1, e2, e3) + dma_alloc_coherent(&e1->dev, e2, e3, GFP_) @@ expression e1, e2, e3; @@ - pci_zalloc_consistent(e1, e2, e3) + dma_alloc_coherent(&e1->dev, e2, e3, GFP_) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_free_consistent(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_free_coherent(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_map_single(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_map_single(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_unmap_single(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_unmap_single(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4, e5; @@ - pci_map_page(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5) + dma_map_page(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4, e5) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_unmap_page(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_unmap_page(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_map_sg(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_map_sg(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_unmap_sg(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_unmap_sg(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_dma_sync_single_for_cpu(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_sync_single_for_cpu(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_dma_sync_single_for_device(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_sync_single_for_device(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_dma_sync_sg_for_cpu(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_sync_sg_for_cpu(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2, e3, e4; @@ - pci_dma_sync_sg_for_device(e1, e2, e3, e4) + dma_sync_sg_for_device(&e1->dev, e2, e3, e4) @@ expression e1, e2; @@ - pci_dma_mapping_error(e1, e2) + dma_mapping_error(&e1->dev, e2) @@ expression e1, e2; @@ - pci_set_dma_mask(e1, e2) + dma_set_mask(&e1->dev, e2) @@ expression e1, e2; @@ - pci_set_consistent_dma_mask(e1, e2) + dma_set_coherent_mask(&e1->dev, e2) Signed-off-by: Christophe JAILLET <christophe.jaillet@wanadoo.fr> Signed-off-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20200718072822.339064-1-christophe.jaillet@wanadoo.fr

2013-08-19drm: rip out drm_core_has_MTRR checksDaniel Vetter1-1/+1

So for real KMS drivers it's the drives responsibility to add an mtrr if it needs one. nouvea, radeon, mgag200, i915 and vmwgfx do that already. Somehow the savage driver also ends up doing that, I have no idea why. Note that gma500 as a pure KMS driver doesn't need MTRR setup since the platforms that it supports all support PAT. So no MTRRs needed to get wc iomappings. The mtrr support in the drm core is all for legacy mappings of garts, framebuffers and registers. All legacy drivers set the USE_MTRR flag, so we're good there. 2013-08-19drm: remove FASYNC supportDaniel Vetter2-2/+0
So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging that up is quite a story. First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that they've created SIGIO just for that ... Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op." comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync. No merged drm driver has ever done that. After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm driver with prejudice: commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie> Date: Sun Aug 29 12:04:35 2004 +0000 Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ... Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream kernel. And we don't need any fops->fasync callback since the fcntl implementation in the kernel already implements the noop case correctly. So stop this particular cargo-cult and rip it all out. v2: Kill drm_fasync assignments in rcar (newly added) and imx drivers (somehow I've missed that one in staging). 2012-05-30i810: switch to vm_mmap()Al Viro1-3/+1
Weirdness around do_mmap() in there does not rely on ->mmap_sem for exclusion, so no need to keep it under that. As the result, we can turn that do_mmap() into vm_mmap(). Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2012-04-20VM: add "vm_mmap()" helper functionLinus Torvalds1-0/+1
This continues the theme started with vm_brk() and vm_munmap(): vm_mmap() does the same thing as do_mmap(), but additionally does the required VM locking. This uninlines (and rewrites it to be clearer) do_mmap(), which sadly duplicates it in mm/mmap.c and mm/nommu.c. But that way we don't have to export our internal do_mmap_pgoff() function. Some day we hopefully don't have to export do_mmap() either, if all modular users can become the simpler vm_mmap() instead. We're actually very close to that already, with the notable exception of the (broken) use in i810, and a couple of stragglers in binfmt_elf. 2012-03-05drm: drop setting vm_file to filpDave Airlie1-1/+0
Talking to Al Viro on irc, we can see no possible reason for doing this, the upper mmap code does it. The code has been there since first import into drm tree I can find. 2012-02-16drm: move pci bus master enable into driver.Dave Airlie1-0/+2
The current enabling of bus mastering in the drm midlayer allows a large race condition under kexec. When a kexec'ed kernel re-enables bus mastering for the GPU, previously setup dma blocks may cause writes to random pieces of memory. On radeon the writeback mechanism can cause these sorts of issues. This patch doesn't fix the problem, but it moves the bus master enable under the individual drivers control so they can move enabling it until later in their load cycle and close the race. Fix for radeon kms driver will be in a follow-up patch. Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>
2012-01-30Revert "drm/i810: cleanup reclaim_buffers"Daniel Vetter3-13/+11
This reverts commit 87499ffdcb1c70f66988cd8febc4ead0ba2f9118. Where is that paper bag ... ah here. I've failed to take an odd interaction between my other cleanups and this reclaim_buffers patch into account and also failed to properly test it. Looks like there are more dragons and hidden trapdoors in the drm release path than actual lines of code. Until I get a clue, let's just revert this. 2011-12-22drm/i810: don't acces hw regs in lastcloseDaniel Vetter1-2/+0
i810 uses a userspace provided mmio map using the drm core map infrastructure. By the time we reach lastclose, this is all gone and our mmio_map pointer points at freed memory. Depending upon luck that still works, most often it just oopses. Aside: drm maps aren't refcounted, so userspace can essentially oops the kernel any time it wants to. Who cares. 2011-11-11drm: Make the per-driver file_operations struct constArjan van de Ven1-11/+12
From fdf1fdebaa00f81de18c227f32f8074c8b352d50 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@linux.intel.com> Date: Sun, 30 Oct 2011 19:06:07 -0700 Subject: [PATCH] drm: Make the per-driver file_operations struct const The DRM layer keeps a copy of struct file_operations inside its big driver struct... which prevents it from being consistent and static. For consistency (and the general security objective of having such things static), it's desirable to get this fixed. This patch splits out the file_operations field to its own struct, which is then "static const", and just stick a pointer to this into the driver struct, making it more consistent with how the rest of the kernel does this. 2011-02-07drm/i810: remove the BKLArnd Bergmann2-18/+6
SMP i810 systems were practically nonexistent and the configuration was not officially supported by Intel at the time when Pentium-III was common. With this change, it is still possible to build a distribution kernel that has support for SMP and includes the i810 driver without the BKL. As a precaution, check for the theoretical SMP case at run time and refuse to load the driver. We also need to disable CONFIG_PREEMPT builds for this driver. 2010-10-15llseek: automatically add .llseek fopArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a .llseek pointer. The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek. New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code relies on calling seek on the device file. The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle. Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window. Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic patch that does all this. ===== begin semantic patch ===== // This adds an llseek= method to all file operations, // as a preparation for making no_llseek the default. // // The rules are // - use no_llseek explicitly if we do nonseekable_open // - use seq_lseek for sequential files // - use default_llseek if we know we access f_pos // - use noop_llseek if we know we don't access f_pos, // but we still want to allow users to call lseek // @ open1 exists @ identifier nested_open; @@ nested_open(...) { <+... nonseekable_open(...) ...+> } @ open exists@ identifier open_f; identifier i, f; identifier open1.nested_open; @@ int open_f(struct inode *i, struct file *f) { <+...
