2019-01-29drm/irq: Ditch DRIVER_IRQ_SHAREDDaniel Vetter1-2/+1
This is only used by drm_irq_install(), which is an optional helper. For legacy pci devices this is required (due to interrupt sharing without msi/msi-x), and just making this the default exactly matches the behaviour of all existing drivers using the drm_irq_install() helpers. If a non-legacy driver calls these it's valid to assume there is interrupt support. The flag is really only needed for legacy drivers, which control IRQ enabling/disabling through the DRM_IOCTL_CONTROL legacy IOCTL. 2018-01-11drm/gma500: Deprecate pci_get_bus_and_slot()Sinan Kaya1-2/+8
pci_get_bus_and_slot() is restrictive such that it assumes domain=0 as where a PCI device is present. This restricts the device drivers to be reused for other domain numbers. Getting ready to remove pci_get_bus_and_slot() function in favor of pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot(). Add domain parameter to CDV_MSG_READ32, CDV_MSG_WRITE32, MRST_MSG_READ32, MRST_MSG_WRITE32, MDFLD_MSG_READ32, MDFLD_MSG_WRITE32. Extract pci_dev from struct drm_device and use pdev to find the domain number while calling pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot(). 2017-11-20gpu: gma500: remove unneeded DRIVER_LICENSE #defineGreg Kroah-Hartman1-1/+1
There is no need to #define the license of the driver, just put it in the MODULE_LICENSE() line directly as a text string. This allows tools that check that the module license matches the source code license to work properly, as there is no need to unwind the unneeded dereference, especially when the string is defined in a .h file far away from the .c file it is used in. This was added in commit 0a3e67a4caac273a3bfc4ced3da364830b1ab241 Author: Jesse Barnes <jbarnes@virtuousgeek.org> Date: Tue Sep 30 12:14:26 2008 -0700 drm: Rework vblank-wait handling to allow interrupt reduction. to stay backwards-compatible with old UMS code that didn't even tell the kernel when it did a modeset, so that the kernel could save/restore vblank counters. At worst this means vblanks will be somewhat funky on a setup that very likely no one still runs. So let's just nuke it. Plan B would be to set it unconditionally in drm_vblank_init for kms drivers, instead of in each driver separately. So if this patch breaks anything please only restore the hunks in drmP.h and drm_irq.c, plus add a check for DRIVER_MODESET in drm_vblank_init. Stumbled over this in a discussion on irc with Chris. One step closer to dropping all the drm_bus_* code: Add a driver->set_busid() callback and make all drivers use the generic helpers. Nouveau is the only driver that uses two different bus-types with the same drm_driver. This is totally broken if both buses are available on the same machine (unlikely, but lets be safe). Therefore, we create two different drivers for each platform during module_init() and set the set_busid() callback respectively. So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging that up is quite a story. First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that they've created SIGIO just for that ... Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op." comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync. No merged drm driver has ever done that. After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm driver with prejudice: commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie> Date: Sun Aug 29 12:04:35 2004 +0000 Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ... Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream kernel. Doing this within the fb->destroy callback leads to a locking nightmare. And all other drm drivers that restore the fbcon do it in lastclose, too. With this adjustments all fb->destroy callbacks optionally drop references to any gem objects used as backing storage, call drm_framebuffer_cleanup and then kfree the struct. Which nicely simplifies the locking for framebuffer unreferencing and freeing, since this doesn't require that we hold the mode_config lock. A slight exception is the vmwgfx surface backed framebuffer, it also calls drm_master_put and removes the object from a device-private framebuffer list. Both seem to have solid locking in place already. Conclusion is that now it is no longer required to hold the mode_config lock while freeing a framebuffer. v2: Drop the corresponding mutex_lock WARN check from drm_framebuffer_unreference. v3: Use just the mode_config lock not modeset_lock_all, due to patch reordering.
