2019-07-01drm/bridge: dw-hdmi: Use automatic CTS generation mode when using non-AHB audioNeil Armstrong1-15/+30
When using an I2S source using a different clock source (usually the I2S audio HW uses dedicated PLLs, different from the HDMI PHY PLL), fixed CTS values will cause some frequent audio drop-out and glitches as reported on Amlogic, Allwinner and Rockchip SoCs setups. Setting the CTS in automatic mode will let the HDMI controller generate automatically the CTS value to match the input audio clock. The DesignWare DW-HDMI User Guide explains: For Automatic CTS generation Write "0" on the bit field "CTS_manual", Register 0x3205: AUD_CTS3 The DesignWare DW-HDMI Databook explains : If "CTS_manual" bit equals 0b this registers contains "audCTS[19:0]" generated by the Cycle time counter according to specified timing. 2019-06-11drm: bridge: dw-hdmi: Add hook for resumeDouglas Anderson1-19/+29
On Rockchip rk3288-based Chromebooks when you do a suspend/resume cycle: 1. You lose the ability to detect an HDMI device being plugged in. 2. If you're using the i2c bus built in to dw_hdmi then it stops working. Let's add a hook to the core dw-hdmi driver so that we can call it in dw_hdmi-rockchip in the next commit. NOTE: the exact set of steps I've done here in resume come from looking at the normal dw_hdmi init sequence in upstream Linux plus the sequence that we did in downstream Chrome OS 3.14. Testing show that it seems to work, but if an extra step is needed or something here is not needed we could improve it. As part of this change we'll refactor the hardware init bits of dw-hdmi to happen all in one function and all at the same time. Since we need to init the interrupt mutes before we request the IRQ, this means moving the hardware init earlier in the function, but there should be no problems with that. Also as part of this we now unconditionally init the "i2c" parts of dw-hdmi, but again that ought to be fine. In commit 50f9495efe30 ("drm/bridge/synopsys: dw-hdmi: Add "unwedge" for ddc bus") I stupidly used IS_ERR() to check for whether we have an "unwedge" pinctrl state even though on most flows through the driver the unwedge state will just be NULL. Fix it so that we consistently use NULL for no unwedge state. 2019-06-05drm/bridge/synopsys: dw-hdmi: Add "unwedge" for ddc busDouglas Anderson1-16/+100
See the PhD thesis in the comments in this patch for details, but to summarize this adds a hacky "unwedge" feature to the dw_hdmi i2c bus to workaround what appears to be a hardware errata. This relies on a pinctrl entry to help change around muxing to perform the unwedge. NOTE that the specific TV this was tested on was the "Samsung UN40HU6950FXZA" and the specific port was the "STB" port. Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. The mode and ajusted_mode passed to the bridge .mode_set() operation should never be modified by the bridge (and are not in any of the existing bridge drivers). Make them const to make this clear. 2018-09-28drm/bridge: dw-hdmi: allow forcing vendor phy-typeHeiko Stuebner1-1/+3
In some IP implementations the reading of the phy-type may be broken. One example are the Rockchip rk3228 and rk3328 socs that use a separate vendor-type phy from Innosilicon but still report the HDMI20_TX type. So allow the glue driver to force the vendor-phy for these cases. Parts of PHY code could be useful also for custom PHYs. For example, Allwinner A83T has custom PHY which is probably Synopsys gen2 PHY with few additional memory mapped registers, so most of the Synopsys PHY related code could be reused. Functions exported here are actually not specific to Synopsys PHYs but to DWC HDMI controller PHY interface. This means that even if the PHY is completely custom, i.e. not designed by Synopsys, exported functions can be useful. 2017-11-22drm/edid: Allow HDMI infoframe without VIC or S3DVille Syrjälä1-1/+3
Appedix F of HDMI 2.0 says that some HDMI sink may fail to switch from 3D to 2D mode in a timely fashion if the source simply stops sending the HDMI infoframe. The suggested workaround is to keep sending the infoframe even when strictly not necessary (ie. no VIC and no S3D). HDMI 1.4 does allow for this behaviour, stating that sending the infoframe is optional in this case. The infoframe was first specified in HDMI 1.4, so in theory sinks predating that may not appreciate us sending an uknown infoframe their way. To avoid regressions let's try to determine if the sink supports the infoframe or not. Unfortunately there's no direct way to do that, so instead we'll just check if we managed to parse any HDMI 1.4 4k or stereo modes from the EDID, and if so we assume the sink will accept the infoframe. HDMI 2.0 PHY Currently HDMI 2.0 PHYs do not have a default configuration function. As *some* of the HDMI 2.0 PHYs have the same register layout as the 3D PHYs we can provide the same default configuration function for both and still let user overwrite this with custom configuration function if needed. If, for some reason, the PHY is custom or has a register different register layout then custom configuration function *must* be provided in order for the system to work correctly. As we prefer the pdata provided configuration function over the internal one this change will not make any impact in custom platforms. The video setup path aways sets the clock disable register to a specific value, which has the effect of disabling the CEC engine. When we add the CEC driver, this becomes a problem. Fix this by only setting/clearing the bits that the video path needs to. HDMI 1.4b support the CEA video modes as per range of CEA-861-D (VIC 1-64). For any other mode, the VIC filed in AVI infoframes should be 0. HDMI 2.0 sinks, support video modes range as per CEA-861-F spec, which is extended to (VIC 1-107). This patch adds a bool input variable, which indicates if the connected sink is a HDMI 2.0 sink or not. This will make sure that we don't pass a HDMI 2.0 VIC to a HDMI 1.4 sink. This patch touches all drm drivers, who are callers of this function drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_from_display_mode but to make sure there is no change in current behavior, is_hdmi2 is kept as false. In case of I915 driver, this patch: - checks if the connected display is HDMI 2.0. - HDMI infoframes carry one of this two type of information: - VIC for 4K modes for HDMI 1.4 sinks - S3D information for S3D modes As CEA-861-F has already defined VICs for 4K videomodes, this patch doesn't allow sending HDMI infoframes for HDMI 2.0 sinks, until the mode is 3D. Now that we have a callback to check if bridge supports a given mode we can use it in Synopsys Designware HDMI bridge so that we restrict the number of probbed modes to the ones we can actually display. Also, there is no need to use mode_fixup() callback as mode_valid() will handle the mode validation. NOTE: I also had to change the pdata declaration of mode_valid custom callback so that the passed modes are const. I also changed in the platforms I found. Not even compiled it though. 2017-04-20drm: dw-hdmi: gate audio clock from the I2S enablement callbacksRomain Perier1-6/+14
Currently, the audio sampler clock is enabled from dw_hdmi_setup() at step E. and is kept enabled for later use. This clock should be enabled and disabled along with the actual audio stream and not always on (that is bad for PM). Furthermore, as described by the datasheet, the I2S variant needs to gate/ungate the clock when the stream is enabled/disabled. This commit adds a parameter to hdmi_audio_enable_clk() that controls when the audio sample clock must be enabled or disabled. Then, it adds the call to this function from dw_hdmi_i2s_audio_enable() and dw_hdmi_i2s_audio_disable().
