2018-11-23x86/headers: Fix -Wmissing-prototypes warningYi Wang1-0/+1
When building the kernel with W=1 we get a lot of -Wmissing-prototypes warnings, which are trivial in nature and easy to fix - and which may mask some real future bugs if the prototypes get out of sync with the function definition. This patch fixes most of -Wmissing-prototypes warnings which are in the root directory of arch/x86/kernel, not including the subdirectories. These are the warnings fixed in this patch: arch/x86/kernel/signal.c:865:17: warning: no previous prototype for ‘sys32_x32_rt_sigreturn’ [-Wmissing-prototypes] arch/x86/kernel/signal_compat.c:164:6: 2018-03-08x86/devicetree: Fix device IRQ settings in DTIvan Gorinov1-5/+8
IRQ parameters for the SoC devices connected directly to I/O APIC lines (without PCI IRQ routing) may be specified in the Device Tree. Called from DT IRQ parser, irq_create_fwspec_mapping() calls irq_domain_alloc_irqs() with a pointer to irq_fwspec structure as @arg. But x86-specific DT IRQ allocation code casts @arg to of_phandle_args structure pointer and crashes trying to read the IRQ parameters. The function was not converted when the mapping descriptor was changed to irq_fwspec in the generic irqdomain code. 2018-03-08x86/devicetree: Initialize device tree before using itIvan Gorinov1-3/+5
Commit 08d53aa58cb1 added CRC32 calculation in early_init_dt_verify() and checking in late initcall of_fdt_raw_init(), making early_init_dt_verify() mandatory. The required call to early_init_dt_verify() was not added to the x86-specific implementation, causing failure to create the sysfs entry in of_fdt_raw_init(). 2018-03-04x86: devicetree: fix config option around x86_flattree_get_config()Frank Rowand1-1/+1
x86_flattree_get_config() is incorrectly protected by ifdef CONFIG_OF_FLATTREE. It uses of_get_flat_dt_size(), which only exists if CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE. This issue has not been exposed previously because OF_FLATTREE did not occur unless it was selected by OF_EARLY_FLATTREE. A devicetree overlay change is selecting OF_FLATTREE directly instead of indirectly enabling it by selecting OF_EARLY_FLATTREE. This problem was exposed by a randconfig generated by the kbuild test robot, where Platform OLPC was enabled. OLPC selects OF_PROMTREE instead of OF_EARLY_FLATREE. The only other x86 platform that selects OF is X86_INTEL_CE, which does select OF_EARLY_FLATTREE. Signed-off-by: Frank Rowand <frank.rowand@sony.com> Acked-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2015-06-16x86: don't use module_init in non-modular devicetree.c codePaul Gortmaker1-1/+1
The devicetree.o is built for "OF" -- which is bool, and hence this code is either present or absent. It will never be modular, so using module_init as an alias for __initcall can be somewhat misleading. Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that would be a worse thing. Note that direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs. one of the priority categorized subgroups. As __initcall gets mapped onto device_initcall, our use of device_initcall directly in this change means that the runtime impact is zero -- it will remain at level 6 in initcall ordering. 2013-10-24of/irq: Rename of_irq_map_* functions to of_irq_parse_*Grant Likely1-1/+1
The OF irq handling code has been overloading the term 'map' to refer to both parsing the data in the device tree and mapping it to the internal linux irq system. This is probably because the device tree does have the concept of an 'interrupt-map' function for translating interrupt references from one node to another, but 'map' is still confusing when the primary purpose of some of the functions are to parse the DT data. This patch renames all the of_irq_map_* functions to of_irq_parse_* which makes it clear that there is a difference between the parsing phase and the mapping phase. Kernel code can make use of just the parsing or just the mapping support as needed by the subsystem. The patch was generated mechanically with a handful of sed commands. 2013-07-24of: Specify initrd location using 64-bitSantosh Shilimkar1-2/+1
On some PAE architectures, the entire range of physical memory could reside outside the 32-bit limit. These systems need the ability to specify the initrd location using 64-bit numbers. This patch globally modifies the early_init_dt_setup_initrd_arch() function to use 64-bit numbers instead of the current unsigned long. There has been quite a bit of debate about whether to use u64 or phys_addr_t. It was concluded to stick to u64 to be consistent with rest of the device tree code. As summarized by Geert, "The address to load the initrd is decided by the bootloader/user and set at that point later in time. The dtb should not be tied to the kernel you are booting" More details on the discussion can be found here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/6/20/690 https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/9/13/544 Signed-off-by: Santosh Shilimkar <santosh.shilimkar@ti.com> Acked-by: Rob Herring <rob.herring@calxeda.com> Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> Acked-by: Jean-Christophe PLAGNIOL-VILLARD <plagnioj@jcrosoft.com> Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@linaro.org>
2013-07-14x86: delete __cpuinit usage from all x86 filesPaul Gortmaker1-1/+1
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. This removes all the arch/x86 uses of the __cpuinit macros from all C files. x86 only had the one __CPUINIT used in assembly files, and it wasn't paired off with a .previous or a __FINIT, so we can delete it directly w/o any corresponding additional change there. 2013-06-24irqdomain: Refactor irq_domain_associate_many()Grant Likely1-3/+1
Originally, irq_domain_associate_many() was designed to unwind the mapped irqs on a failure of any individual association. However, that proved to be a problem with certain IRQ controllers. Some of them only support a subset of irqs, and will fail when attempting to map a reserved IRQ. In those cases we want to map as many IRQs as possible, so instead it is better for irq_domain_associate_many() to make a best-effort attempt to map irqs, but not fail if any or all of them don't succeed. If a caller really cares about how many irqs got associated, then it should instead go back and check that all of the irqs is cares about were mapped. The original design open-coded the individual association code into the body of irq_domain_associate_many(), but with no longer needing to unwind associations, the code becomes simpler to split out irq_domain_associate() to contain the bulk of the logic, and irq_domain_associate_many() to be a simple loop wrapper. This patch also adds a new error check to the associate path to make sure it isn't called for an irq larger than the controller can handle, and adds locking so that the irq_domain_mutex is held while setting up a new association. v3: Fixup missing change to irq_domain_add_tree() v2: Fixup x86 warning. irq_domain_associate_many() no longer returns an error code, but reports errors to the printk log directly. In the majority of cases we don't actually want to fail if there is a problem, but rather log it and still try to boot the system. The former conversion to irq_domain_add_legacy() did not fully work since we miss the irq decs for NR_IRQS_LEGACY+. 2011-04-28x86: devicetree: Configure IOAPIC pin only onceSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-1/+1
We use io_apic_setup_irq_pin() in order to configure pin's interrupt number polarity and type. This is done on every irq_create_of_mapping() which happens for instance during pci enable calls. Level typed interrupts are masked by default, edge are unmasked. On the first ->xlate() call the level interrupt is configured and masked. The driver calls request_irq() and the line is unmasked. Lets assume the interrupt line is shared with another device and we call pci_enable_device() for this device. The ->xlate() configures the pin again and it is masked. request_irq() does not unmask the line because it _is_ already unmasked according to its internal state. So the interrupt will never be unmasked again. This patch is based on an earlier work by Torben Hohn and solves the problem by configuring the pin only once. Since all devices must agree on the same type and polarity there is no point in configuring the pin more than once. 2011-03-24x86: DT: Cleanup namespace and call irq_set_irq_type() unconditionalThomas Gleixner1-3/+1
That call escaped the name space cleanup. Fix it up. We really want to call there. The chip might have changed since the irq was setup initially. So let the core code and the chip decide what to do. The status is just an unreliable snapshot. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Cc: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de>
2011-03-24x86: DT: Fix return condition in irq_create_of_mapping()Thomas Gleixner1-1/+1
The xlate() function returns 0 or a negative error code. Returning the error code blindly will be seen as an huge irq number by the calling function because irq_create_of_mapping() returns an unsigned value. Return 0 (NO_IRQ) as required. 2011-02-25x86: dt: Cleanup local apic setupThomas Gleixner1-20/+20
Up to now we force enable the local apic in the devicetree setup uncoditionally and set smp_found_config unconditionally to 1 when a devicetree blob is available. This breaks, when local apic is disabled in the Kconfig. Make it consistent by initializing device tree explicitely before smp_get_config() so a non lapic configuration could be used as well. To be functional that would require to implement PIT as an interrupt host, but the only user of this code until now is ce4100 which requires apics to be available. So we leave this up to those who need it. Tested-by: Sebastian Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>
2011-02-24x86: dt: Fix OLPC=y/INTEL_CE=n buildSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-4/+19
Both OLPC and CE4100 activate CONFIG_OF. OLPC uses PROMTREE while CE uses FLATTREE. Compiling for OLPC only breaks due to missing flat tree functions and variables. Use proper wrappers and provide an empty x86_flattree_get_config() inline so OF=y FLATTREE=n builds and works. 2011-02-23x86: ioapic: Add OF bindings for IO_APICSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-0/+104
ioapic_xlate provides a translation from the information in device tree to ioapic related informations. This includes - obtaining hw irq which is the vector number "=> pin number + gsi" - obtaining type (level/edge/..) - programming this information into ioapic ioapic_add_ofnode adds an irq_domain based on informations from the device tree. This information (irq_domain) is required in order to map a device to its proper interrupt controller. 2011-02-23x86: dtb: Add support for PCI devices backed by dtb nodesSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-0/+83
x86_of_pci_init() does two things: - it provides a generic irq enable and disable function. enable queries the device tree for the interrupt information, calls ->xlate on the irq host and updates the pci->irq information for the device. - it walks through PCI bus(es) in the device tree and adds its children (device) nodes to appropriate pci_dev nodes in kernel. So the dtb node information is available at probe time of the PCI device. Adding a PCI bus based on the information in the device tree is currently not supported. Right now direct access via ioports is used.
