2012-10-09readahead: fault retry breaks mmap file read random detectionShaohua Li1-0/+1
.fault now can retry. The retry can break state machine of .fault. In filemap_fault, if page is miss, ra->mmap_miss is increased. In the second try, since the page is in page cache now, ra->mmap_miss is decreased. And these are done in one fault, so we can't detect random mmap file access. Add a new flag to indicate .fault is tried once. In the second try, skip ra->mmap_miss decreasing. The filemap_fault state machine is ok with it. 2012-05-11sparc32: remove sun4c trapsSam Ravnborg1-89/+0
We used to runtime patch the trap table for srmmu. With the removal of sun4c support this is no longer required. With the sun4c trap removed we can remove all the referenced trap handling which is sun4c specific. This also allows us to get rid of the nosun4c.c file that contained only dummy functions/data. Commit d065bd810b6deb67d4897a14bfe21f8eb526ba99 (mm: retry page fault when blocking on disk transfer) and commit 37b23e0525d393d48a7d59f870b3bc061a30ccdb (x86,mm: make pagefault killable) The above commits introduced changes into the x86 pagefault handler for making the page fault handler retryable as well as killable. These changes reduce the mmap_sem hold time, which is crucial during OOM killer invocation. Port these changes to 32-bit sparc. 2011-07-01perf: Remove the nmi parameter from the swevent and overflow interfacePeter Zijlstra1-5/+3
The nmi parameter indicated if we could do wakeups from the current context, if not, we would set some state and self-IPI and let the resulting interrupt do the wakeup. For the various event classes: - hardware: nmi=0; PMI is in fact an NMI or we run irq_work_run from the PMI-tail (ARM etc.) - tracepoint: nmi=0; since tracepoint could be from NMI context. - software: nmi=[0,1]; some, like the schedule thing cannot perform wakeups, and hence need 0. As one can see, there is very little nmi=1 usage, and the down-side of not using it is that on some platforms some software events can have a jiffy delay in wakeup (when arch_irq_work_raise isn't implemented). The up-side however is that we can remove the nmi parameter and save a bunch of conditionals in fast paths. 2010-10-26sparc32: Fix unaligned stack handling on trap return.David S. Miller1-0/+12
When the rett stack checking code sees the stack is unaligned (in both the sun4c and srmmu cases) it jumps to the window fault-in path. But that just tries to page the stack pages in, it doesn't do anything special if the stack is misaligned. Therefore we essentially just loop forever in the trap return path. 2010-02-20MM: Pass a PTE pointer to update_mmu_cache() rather than the PTE itselfRussell King1-2/+2
On VIVT ARM, when we have multiple shared mappings of the same file in the same MM, we need to ensure that we have coherency across all copies. We do this via make_coherent() by making the pages uncacheable. This used to work fine, until we allowed highmem with highpte - we now have a page table which is mapped as required, and is not available for modification via update_mmu_cache(). Ralf Beache suggested getting rid of the PTE value passed to update_mmu_cache(): On MIPS update_mmu_cache() calls __update_tlb() which walks pagetables to construct a pointer to the pte again. Passing a pte_t * is much more elegant. Maybe we might even replace the pte argument with the pte_t? Ben Herrenschmidt would also like the pte pointer for PowerPC: Passing the ptep in there is exactly what I want. I want that -instead- of the PTE value, because I have issue on some ppc cases, for I$/D$ coherency, where set_pte_at() may decide to mask out the _PAGE_EXEC. So, pass in the mapped page table pointer into update_mmu_cache(), and remove the PTE value, updating all implementations and call sites to suit. This allows the callers to now pass down the full set of FAULT_FLAG_xyz flags to handle_mm_fault(). All callers have been (mechanically) converted to the new calling convention, there's almost certainly room for architectures to clean up their code and then add FAULT_FLAG_RETRY when that support is added. The sparc allmodconfig build broke due to enabling of the branch_tracer that does some very clever things with all if conditions. This caused my gcc 3.4.5 to be so confused that it emitted a warning: arch/sparc/mm/fault_32.c: In function `do_sparc_fault': arch/sparc/mm/fault_32.c:176: warning: 'fixup' might be used uninitialized in this function And with -Werror this broke the build.
