2021-10-04s390/pci: tolerate inconsistent handle in recoverNiklas Schnelle1-0/+8
Since commit 8256adda1f44 ("s390/pci: handle FH state mismatch only on disable") zpci_disable_device() returns -EINVAL when the platform detects an attempt to disable a PCI function that it sees as already disabled. In most situations we want to abort whenever this happens and abort is possible since it either means that the device vanished but we haven't gotten an availability event yet, or the FH got out of sync which should not happen. Unfortunately there is an inconsistency between the LPAR and z/VM hypervisors on whether error events for PCI functions contain an an enabled or a general handle. So under z/VM it can happen that our most up to date function handle is enabled but trying to disable the function results in the aforementioned error. Since recover is designed to be used to recover functions from the error state let's make it robust to this inconsistency by explicitly treating it as a successful disable. 2021-08-25s390/pci: improve DMA translation init and exitNiklas Schnelle1-3/+16
Currently zpci_dma_init_device()/zpci_dma_exit_device() is called as part of zpci_enable_device()/zpci_disable_device() and errors for zpci_dma_exit_device() are always ignored even if we could abort. Improve upon this by moving zpci_dma_exit_device() out of zpci_disable_device() and check for errors whenever we have a way to abort the current operation. Note that for example in zpci_event_hard_deconfigured() the device is expected to be gone so we really can't abort and proceed even in case of error. Similarly move the cc == 3 special case out of zpci_unregister_ioat() and into the callers allowing to abort when finding an already disabled devices precludes proceeding with the operation. 2021-04-20s390/pci: expose a PCI device's UID as its indexNiklas Schnelle1-0/+35
On s390 each PCI device has a user-defined ID (UID) exposed under /sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/uid. This ID was designed to serve as the PCI device's primary index and to match the device within Linux to the device configured in the hypervisor. To serve as a primary identifier the UID must be unique within the Linux instance, this is guaranteed by the platform if and only if the UID Uniqueness Checking flag is set within the CLP List PCI Functions response. In this sense the UID serves an analogous function as the SMBIOS instance number or ACPI index exposed as the "index" respectively "acpi_index" device attributes and used by e.g. systemd to set interface names. As s390 does not use and will likely never use ACPI nor SMBIOS there is no conflict and we can just expose the UID under the "index" attribute whenever UID Uniqueness Checking is active and get systemd's interface naming support for free. On s390 each PCI device has a user-defined ID (UID) exposed under /sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/uid. This ID was designed to serve as the PCI device's primary index and to match the device within Linux to the device configured in the hypervisor. To serve as a primary identifier the UID must be unique within the Linux instance, this is guaranteed by the platform if and only if the UID Uniqueness Checking flag is set within the CLP List PCI Functions response. While the UID has been exposed to userspace since commit ac4995b9d570 ("s390/pci: add some new arch specific pci attributes") whether or not the platform guarantees its uniqueness for the lifetime of the Linux instance while defined is not visible from userspace. Remedy this by exposing this as a per device attribute at /sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/uid_is_unique Keeping this a per device attribute allows for maximum flexibility if we ever end up with some devices not having a UID or not enjoying the guaranteed uniqueness. The zPCI bus is in charge to handle common zPCI resources for zPCI devices. Creating the zPCI bus, the PCI bus, the zPCI devices and the PCI devices and hotplug slots done in a specific order: - PCI hotplug slot creation needs a PCI bus - PCI bus needs a PCI domain which is reported by the pci_domain_nr() when setting up the host bridge - PCI domain is set from the zPCI with devfn 0 this is necessary to have a reproducible enumeration Therefore we can not create devices or hotplug slots for any PCI device associated with a zPCI device before having discovered the function zero of the bus. The discovery and initialization of devices can be done at several points in the code: - On Events, serialized in a thread context - On initialization, in the kernel init thread context - When powering on the hotplug slot, in a user thread context The removal of devices and their parent bus may also be done on events or for devices when powering down the slot. To guarantee the existence of the bus and devices until they are no more needed we use kref in zPCI bus and introduce a reference count in the zPCI devices. In this patch the zPCI bus still only accept a device with a devfn 0. With zpci_disable() working, lockdep detected a potential deadlock (lockdep output at the end). The deadlock is between recovering a PCI function via the /sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/recover attribute vs powering it off via /sys/bus/pci/slots/<slot>/power. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. driver-core now supports synchrnous self-deletion of attributes and the asynchrnous removal mechanism is scheduled for removal. Use it instead of device_schedule_callback(). * Conversions in arch/s390/pci/pci_sysfs.c and drivers/s390/block/dcssblk.c are straightforward. * drivers/s390/cio/ccwgroup.c is a bit more tricky because ccwgroup_notifier() was (ab)using device_schedule_callback() to purely obtain a process context to kick off ungroup operation which may block from a notifier callback. Rename ccwgroup_ungroup_callback() to ccwgroup_ungroup() and make it take ccwgroup_device * instead. The new function is now called directly from ccwgroup_ungroup_store(). ccwgroup_notifier() chain is updated to explicitly bounce through ccwgroup_device->ungroup_work. This also removes possible failure from memory pressure. Only compile-tested.
