2014-05-23parisc: 'renameat2()' doesn't need (or have) a separate compat system callLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
The 'renameat2()' system call was incorrectly added as a ENTRY_COMP() in the parisc system call table by commit 18e480aa07f78 ("parisc: add renameat2 syscall"). 2014-05-21ftrace: Make CALLER_ADDRx macros more genericAKASHI Takahiro1-9/+1
Most archs with HAVE_ARCH_CALLER_ADDR have pretty much the same definitions of CALLER_ADDRx(n). Instead of duplicating the code for all the archs, define a ftrace_return_address0() and ftrace_return_address(n) that can be overwritten by the archs if they need to do something different. Instead of 7 macros in every arch, we now only have at most 2 (and actually only 1 as ftrace_return_address0() should be the same for all archs). The CALLER_ADDRx(n) will now be defined in linux/ftrace.h and use the ftrace_return_address*(n?) macros. This removes a lot of the duplicate code. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/deller/parisc-linux Pull parisc fixes from Helge Deller: "There are two patches in here: The first patch greatly improves latency and corrects the memory ordering in our light-weight atomic locking syscall. The second patch ratelimits printing of userspace segfaults in the same way as it's done on other platforms. This fixes a possible DOS on parisc since it prevents the syslog to grow too fast. For example, when the debian acl2 package was built on our debian buildd servers, this package produced lots of gigabytes in syslog in very short time and thus filled our harddisks, which then turned the server nearly completely unaccessible and unresponsive" * 'parisc-3.15-4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/deller/parisc-linux: parisc: Improve LWS-CAS performance parisc: ratelimit userspace segfault printing
2014-05-15parisc: Improve LWS-CAS performanceJohn David Anglin1-3/+9
The attached change significantly improves the performance of the LWS-CAS code in syscall.S. This allows a number of packages to build (e.g., zeromq3, gtest and libxs) that previously failed because slow LWS-CAS performance under contention. In particular, interrupts taken while the lock was taken degraded performance significantly. The change does the following: 1) Disables interrupts around the CAS operation, and 2) Changes the loads and stores to use the ordered completer, "o", on PA 2.0. "o" and "ma" with a zero offset are equivalent. The latter is accepted on both PA 1.X and 2.0. The use of ordered loads and stores probably makes no difference on all existing hardware, but it seemed pedantically correct. In particular, the CAS operation must complete before LDCW lock is released. As written before, a processor could reorder the operations. I don't believe the period interrupts are disabled is long enough to significantly increase interrupt latency. For example, the TLB insert code is longer. Worst case is a memory fault in the CAS operation. Signed-off-by: John David Anglin <dave.anglin@bell.net> Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 3.13+ Signed-off-by: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de>
2014-05-15parisc: ratelimit userspace segfault printingHelge Deller3-43/+56

2014-05-15parisc,metag: Do not hardcode maximum userspace stack sizeHelge Deller2-4/+7
This patch affects only architectures where the stack grows upwards (currently parisc and metag only). On those do not hardcode the maximum initial stack size to 1GB for 32-bit processes, but make it configurable via a config option. The main problem with the hardcoded stack size is, that we have two memory regions which grow upwards: stack and heap. To keep most of the memory available for heap in a flexmap memory layout, it makes no sense to hard allocate up to 1GB of the memory for stack which can't be used as heap then. This patch makes the stack size for 32-bit processes configurable and uses 80MB as default value which has been in use during the last few years on parisc and which hasn't showed any problems yet. 2014-05-15metag: Reduce maximum stack size to 256MBJames Hogan1-0/+2
Specify the maximum stack size for arches where the stack grows upward (parisc and metag) in asm/processor.h rather than hard coding in fs/exec.c so that metag can specify a smaller value of 256MB rather than 1GB. This fixes a BUG on metag if the RLIMIT_STACK hard limit is increased beyond a safe value by root. E.g. when starting a process after running "ulimit -H -s unlimited" it will then attempt to use a stack size of the maximum 1GB which is far too big for metag's limited user virtual address space (stack_top is usually 0x3ffff000): BUG: failure at fs/exec.c:589/shift_arg_pages()! 2014-05-01parisc: remove _STK_LIM_MAX overrideJohn David Anglin1-1/+0
There are only a couple of architectures that override _STK_LIM_MAX to a non-infinity value. This changes the stack allocation semantics in subtle ways. For example, GNU make changes its stack allocation to the hard maximum defined by _STK_LIM_MAX. As a results, threads executed by processes running under make are allocated a stack size of _STK_LIM_MAX rather than a sensible default value. This causes various thread stress tests to fail when they can't muster more than about 50 threads. The attached change implements the default behavior used by the majority of architectures. Clear winner of the trainwreck engineering contest was: #include "../../../kernel/irq/settings.h" - Tree wide update of irq_set_affinity() callbacks which miss a cpu online check when picking a single cpu out of the affinity mask. - Tree wide consolidation of interrupt statistics. - Updates to the threaded interrupt infrastructure to allow explicit wakeup of the interrupt thread and a variant of synchronize_irq() which synchronizes only the hard interrupt handler. Both are needed to replace the homebrewn thread handling in the mmc/sdhci code. - New irq chip callbacks to allow proper support for GPIO based irqs. 2014-02-05execve: use 'struct filename *' for executable name passingLinus Torvalds1-14/+1
This changes 'do_execve()' to get the executable name as a 'struct filename', and to free it when it is done. This is what the normal users want, and it simplifies and streamlines their error handling. The controlled lifetime of the executable name also fixes a use-after-free problem with the trace_sched_process_exec tracepoint: the lifetime of the passed-in string for kernel users was not at all obvious, and the user-mode helper code used UMH_WAIT_EXEC to serialize the pathname allocation lifetime with the execve() having finished, which in turn meant that the trace point that happened after mm_release() of the old process VM ended up using already free'd memory. To solve the kernel string lifetime issue, this simply introduces "getname_kernel()" that works like the normal user-space getname() function, except with the source coming from kernel memory. As Oleg points out, this also means that we could drop the tcomm[] array from 'struct linux_binprm', since the pathname lifetime now covers setup_new_exec(). That would be a separate cleanup. 2014-01-21mm, show_mem: remove SHOW_MEM_FILTER_PAGE_COUNTMel Gorman1-42/+17
Commit 4b59e6c47309 ("mm, show_mem: suppress page counts in non-blockable contexts") introduced SHOW_MEM_FILTER_PAGE_COUNT to suppress PFN walks on large memory machines. Commit c78e93630d15 ("mm: do not walk all of system memory during show_mem") avoided a PFN walk in the generic show_mem helper which removes the requirement for SHOW_MEM_FILTER_PAGE_COUNT in that case. This patch removes PFN walkers from the arch-specific implementations that report on a per-node or per-zone granularity. ARM and unicore32 still do a PFN walk as they report memory usage on each bank which is a much finer granularity where the debugging information may still be of use. As the remaining arches doing PFN walks have relatively small amounts of memory, this patch simply removes SHOW_MEM_FILTER_PAGE_COUNT. 2014-01-18net: introduce SO_BPF_EXTENSIONSMichal Sekletar1-0/+2
For user space packet capturing libraries such as libpcap, there's currently only one way to check which BPF extensions are supported by the kernel, that is, commit aa1113d9f85d ("net: filter: return -EINVAL if BPF_S_ANC* operation is not supported"). For querying all extensions at once this might be rather inconvenient. Therefore, this patch introduces a new option which can be used as an argument for getsockopt(), and allows one to obtain information about which BPF extensions are supported by the current kernel. As David Miller suggests, we do not need to define any bits right now and status quo can just return 0 in order to state that this versions supports SKF_AD_PROTOCOL up to SKF_AD_PAY_OFFSET. Later additions to BPF extensions need to add their bits to the bpf_tell_extensions() function, as documented in the comment.
