2019-07-12nios2: switch to generic version of pte allocationMike Rapoport1-35/+2
nios2 allocates kernel PTE pages with __get_free_pages(GFP_KERNEL | __GFP_ZERO, PTE_ORDER); and user page tables with pte = alloc_pages(GFP_KERNEL, PTE_ORDER); if (pte) clear_highpage(); The PTE_ORDER is hardwired to zero, which makes nios2 implementation almost identical to the generic one. Switch nios2 to the generic version that does exactly the same thing for the kernel page tables and adds __GFP_ACCOUNT for the user PTEs. The pte_free_kernel() and pte_free() versions on nios2 are identical to the generic ones and can be simply dropped. 2019-07-08Merge branch 'siginfo-linus' of ↵Linus Torvalds2-3/+3
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman: "A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current task. The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal. Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down. This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends making this kind of error almost impossible in the future" * 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: (27 commits) signal/x86: Move tsk inside of CONFIG_MEMORY_FAILURE in do_sigbus signal: Remove the signal number and task parameters from force_sig_info signal: Factor force_sig_info_to_task out of force_sig_info signal: Generate the siginfo in force_sig signal: Move the computation of force into send_signal and correct it. signal: Properly set TRACE_SIGNAL_LOSE_INFO in __send_signal signal: Remove the task parameter from force_sig_fault signal: Use force_sig_fault_to_task for the two calls that don't deliver to current signal: Explicitly call force_sig_fault on current signal/unicore32: Remove tsk parameter from __do_user_fault signal/arm: Remove tsk parameter from __do_user_fault signal/arm: Remove tsk parameter from ptrace_break signal/nds32: Remove tsk parameter from send_sigtrap signal/riscv: Remove tsk parameter from do_trap signal/sh: Remove tsk parameter from force_sig_info_fault signal/um: Remove task parameter from send_sigtrap signal/x86: Remove task parameter from send_sigtrap signal: Remove task parameter from force_sig_mceerr signal: Remove task parameter from force_sig signal: Remove task parameter from force_sigsegv ...
2019-07-04nios2: configs: Remove useless UEVENT_HELPER_PATHKrzysztof Kozlowski2-2/+0
Remove the CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH because: 1. It is disabled since commit 1be01d4a5714 ("driver: base: Disable CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER by default") as its dependency (UEVENT_HELPER) was made default to 'n', 2. It is not recommended (help message: "This should not be used today [...] creates a high system load") and was kept only for ancient userland, 3. Certain userland specifically requests it to be disabled (systemd README: "Legacy hotplug slows down the system and confuses udev"). 2019-07-04nios2: remove pointless second entry for CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORTMasahiro Yamada1-3/+0
Strangely enough, NIOS2 defines TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT twice with different values, which is pointless and confusing. [1] arch/nios2/Kconfig config TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT def_bool n [2] arch/nios2/Kconfig.debug config TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT def_bool y [1] is included before [2]. In the Kconfig syntax, the first one is effective. So, TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT is always 'n'. The second define in arch/nios2/Kconfig.debug is dead code. 2019-05-29signal: Remove the task parameter from force_sig_faultEric W. Biederman1-1/+1
As synchronous exceptions really only make sense against the current task (otherwise how are you synchronous) remove the task parameter from from force_sig_fault to make it explicit that is what is going on. The two known exceptions that deliver a synchronous exception to a stopped ptraced task have already been changed to force_sig_fault_to_task. The callers have been changed with the following emacs regular expression (with obvious variations on the architectures that take more arguments) to avoid typos: force_sig_fault[(]\([^,]+\)[,]\([^,]+\)[,]\([^,]+\)[,]\W+current[)] -> force_sig_fault(\1,\2,\3) Signed-off-by: "Eric W. 2019-05-27signal: Remove task parameter from force_sigEric W. Biederman1-1/+1
All of the remaining callers pass current into force_sig so remove the task parameter to make this obvious and to make misuse more difficult in the future. This also makes it clear force_sig passes current into force_sig_info. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com>
2019-05-27signal: Remove task parameter from force_sigsegvEric W. Biederman1-1/+1

2019-05-14mm: memblock: make keeping memblock memory opt-in rather than opt-outMike Rapoport1-1/+0
Most architectures do not need the memblock memory after the page allocator is initialized, but only few enable ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK in the arch Kconfig. Replacing ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK with ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK and inverting the logic makes it clear which architectures actually use memblock after system initialization and skips the necessity to add ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK to the architectures that are still missing that option. 2019-05-14init: provide a generic free_initmem implementationMike Rapoport1-5/+0
Patch series "provide a generic free_initmem implementation", v2. Many architectures implement free_initmem() in exactly the same or very similar way: they wrap the call to free_initmem_default() with sometimes different 'poison' parameter. These patches switch those architectures to use a generic implementation that does free_initmem_default(POISON_FREE_INITMEM). This was inspired by Christoph's patches for free_initrd_mem [1] and I shamelessly copied changelog entries from his patches :) [1] https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20190213174621.29297-1-hch@lst.de/ This patch (of 2): For most architectures free_initmem just a wrapper for the same free_initmem_default(-1) call. 2019-04-05syscalls: Remove start and number from syscall_get_arguments() argsSteven Rostedt (Red Hat)1-35/+7
At Linux Plumbers, Andy Lutomirski approached me and pointed out that the function call syscall_get_arguments() implemented in x86 was horribly written and not optimized for the standard case of passing in 0 and 6 for the starting index and the number of system calls to get. When looking at all the users of this function, I discovered that all instances pass in only 0 and 6 for these arguments. Instead of having this function handle different cases that are never used, simply rewrite it to return the first 6 arguments of a system call. This should help out the performance of tracing system calls by ptrace, ftrace and perf. 2019-04-03locking/rwsem: Remove rwsem-spinlock.c & use rwsem-xadd.c for all archsWaiman Long1-3/+0
Currently, we have two different implementation of rwsem: 1) CONFIG_RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK (rwsem-spinlock.c) 2) CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM (rwsem-xadd.c) As we are going to use a single generic implementation for rwsem-xadd.c and no architecture-specific code will be needed, there is no point in keeping two different implementations of rwsem. In most cases, the performance of rwsem-spinlock.c will be worse. It also doesn't get all the performance tuning and optimizations that had been implemented in rwsem-xadd.c over the years. For simplication, we are going to remove rwsem-spinlock.c and make all architectures use a single implementation of rwsem - rwsem-xadd.c. All references to RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK and RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM in the code are removed. 2019-04-03arch/tlb: Clean up simple architecturesPeter Zijlstra2-4/+5
For the architectures that do not implement their own tlb_flush() but do already use the generic mmu_gather, there are two options: 1) the platform has an efficient flush_tlb_range() and asm-generic/tlb.h doesn't need any overrides at all. 2) the platform lacks an efficient flush_tlb_range() and we select MMU_GATHER_NO_RANGE to minimize full invalidates. Convert all 'simple' architectures to one of these two forms. alpha: has no range invalidate -> 2 arc: already used flush_tlb_range() -> 1 c6x: has no range invalidate -> 2 hexagon: has an efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (flush_tlb_mm() is in fact a full range invalidate, so no need to shoot down everything) m68k: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 microblaze: has no flush_tlb_range() -> 2 mips: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (even though it currently seems to use flush_tlb_mm()) nds32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 nios2: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) openrisc: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) parisc: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 sparc32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 unicore32: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) xtensa: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 Note this also fixes a bug in the existing code for a number platforms. Those platforms that did: tlb_end_vma() -> if (!full_mm) flush_tlb_*() tlb_flush -> if (full_mm) flush_tlb_mm() missed the case of shift_arg_pages(), which doesn't have @fullmm set, nor calls into tlb_*vma(), but still frees page-tables and thus needs an invalidate. The new code handles this by detecting a non-empty range, and either issuing the matching range invalidate or a full invalidate, depending on the capabilities. No change in behavior intended. 2019-04-03asm-generic/tlb, arch: Provide generic VIPT cache flushPeter Zijlstra1-10/+0
The one obvious thing SH and ARM want is a sensible default for tlb_start_vma(). (also: https://lkml.org/lkml/2004/1/15/6 ) Avoid all VIPT architectures providing their own tlb_start_vma() implementation and rely on architectures to provide a no-op flush_cache_range() when it is not relevant. This patch makes tlb_start_vma() default to flush_cache_range(), which should be right and sufficient. The only exceptions that I found where (oddly): - m68k-mmu - sparc64 - unicore Those architectures appear to have flush_cache_range(), but their current tlb_start_vma() does not call it. 2019-03-28KVM: export <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> iif KVM is supportedMasahiro Yamada2-1/+1
I do not see any consistency about headers_install of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h>. According to my analysis of Linux 5.1-rc1, there are 3 groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported alpha, arm, hexagon, mips, powerpc, s390, sparc, x86 [2] <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported, but <linux/kvm_para.h> is not arc, arm64, c6x, h8300, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nios2, openrisc, parisc, sh, unicore32, xtensa [3] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported csky, nds32, riscv This does not match to the actual KVM support. At least, [2] is half-baked. Nor do arch maintainers look like they care about this. For example, commit 0add53713b1c ("microblaze: Add missing kvm_para.h to Kbuild") exported <asm/kvm_para.h> to user-space in order to fix an in-kernel build error. We have two ways to make this consistent: [A] export both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> for all architectures, irrespective of the KVM support [B] Match the header export of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> to the KVM support My first attempt was [A] because the code looks cleaner, but Paolo suggested [B]. So, this commit goes with [B]. For most architectures, <asm/kvm_para.h> was moved to the kernel-space. I changed include/uapi/linux/Kbuild so that it checks generated asm/kvm_para.h as well as check-in ones. After this commit, there will be two groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported arm, arm64, mips, powerpc, s390, x86 [2] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported alpha, arc, c6x, csky, h8300, hexagon, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nds32, nios2, openrisc, parisc, riscv, sh, sparc, unicore32, xtensa Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Acked-by: Cornelia Huck <cohuck@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

2019-03-07nios2: TLBMISC writes do not require PID bits to be setNicholas Piggin1-12/+7
TLBMISC_RD does not use PID bits, and when setting invalid TLBs, the PID is not required because the address will not match. This is just a tidy up. Signed-off-by: Nicholas Piggin <npiggin@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Ley Foon Tan <ley.foon.tan@intel.com>
2019-03-07nios2: Use an invalid TLB entry address helper functionNicholas Piggin1-35/+33
There is no need for complicated calculation for an invalid address that maps to the same TLB index as the entry to be invalidated. Using the TLB address plus the two top bits set puts the address into the kernel TLB bypass range and still maps to the same cache line. This is also a bug fix for flush_tlb_pid, which is currently unused, but does not set PTEADDR to invalid. 2019-03-07nios2: flush_tlb_page use PID based flushNicholas Piggin3-14/+19
flush_tlb_page is for flushing user pages, so it should not be using flush_tlb_one (which flushes all pages). This patch implements it with the flush_tlb_range, which is a user flush that does the right thing. flush_tlb_one is made static to mm/tlb.c because it's a bit confusing. It is used in do_page_fault to flush the kernel non-linear mappings, so that is replaced with flush_tlb_kernel_page. The end result is that functionality is identical.
