2020-09-28ide/macide: Convert Mac IDE driver to platform driverFinn Thain2-0/+2
Add platform devices for the Mac IDE controller variants. Convert the macide module into a platform driver to support two of those variants. For the third, use a generic "pata_platform" driver instead. This enables automatic loading of the appropriate module and begins the process of replacing the driver with libata alternatives. This kernel configuration is basically enabling/disabling sr driver quirks detection. While these quirks are for fairly rare devices (very old CD burners, and a glucometer), the additional detection of these models is a very minimal amount of code. The logic behind the quirks is always built into the sr driver. This also removes the config from all the defconfig files that are enabling this already. If my analysis turns out to be wrong and someone actually cares it will be easy to revert this commit and have the system call again. There was one new xtensa defconfig in linux-next that enabled the system call this cycle and when asked about it the maintainer of the code replied that it was not enabled on purpose. As of today's linux-next tree that defconfig no longer enables the system call. This system call has been deprecated almost since it was introduced, and in a survey of the linux distributions I can no longer find any of them that enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. The only indication that I can find that anyone might care is that a few of the defconfigs in the kernel enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. However this appears in only 31 of 414 defconfigs in the kernel, so I suspect this symbols presence is simply because it is harmless to include rather than because it is necessary. As there appear to be no users of the sysctl system call, remove the code. As this removes one of the few uses of the internal kernel mount of proc I hope this allows for even more simplifications of the proc filesystem. 2019-04-06block: remove CONFIG_LBDAFChristoph Hellwig3-3/+0
Currently support for 64-bit sector_t and blkcnt_t is optional on 32-bit architectures. These types are required to support block device and/or file sizes larger than 2 TiB, and have generally defaulted to on for a long time. Enabling the option only increases the i386 tinyconfig size by 145 bytes, and many data structures already always use 64-bit values for their in-core and on-disk data structures anyway, so there should not be a large change in dynamic memory usage either. Dropping this option removes a somewhat weird non-default config that has cause various bugs or compiler warnings when actually used. 2018-09-04crypto: x86 - remove SHA multibuffer routines and mcryptdArd Biesheuvel12-12/+0
As it turns out, the AVX2 multibuffer SHA routines are currently broken [0], in a way that would have likely been noticed if this code were in wide use. Since the code is too complicated to be maintained by anyone except the original authors, and since the performance benefits for real-world use cases are debatable to begin with, it is better to drop it entirely for the moment. These are unused, undesired, and have never actually been used by anybody. The original authors of this code have changed their mind about its inclusion. While originally proposed for disk encryption on low-end devices, the idea was discarded [1] in favor of something else before that could really get going. Therefore, this patch removes Speck.
