2019-09-04dma-mapping: remove CONFIG_ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAPChristoph Hellwig1-1/+0
CONFIG_ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP is now functionally identical to !CONFIG_MMU, so remove the separate symbol. The only difference is that arm did not set it for !CONFIG_MMU, but arm uses a separate dma mapping implementation including its own mmap method, which is handled by moving the CONFIG_MMU check in dma_can_mmap so that is only applies to the dma-direct case, just as the other ifdefs for it. 2019-08-29dma-mapping: remove arch_dma_mmap_pgprotChristoph Hellwig1-1/+0
arch_dma_mmap_pgprot is used for two things: 1) to override the "normal" uncached page attributes for mapping memory coherent to devices that can't snoop the CPU caches 2) to provide the special DMA_ATTR_WRITE_COMBINE semantics on older arm systems and some mips platforms Replace one with the pgprot_dmacoherent macro that is already provided by arm and much simpler to use, and lift the DMA_ATTR_WRITE_COMBINE handling to common code with an explicit arch opt-in. 2019-08-22kbuild: add CONFIG_ASM_MODVERSIONSMasahiro Yamada1-0/+1
Add CONFIG_ASM_MODVERSIONS. This allows to remove one if-conditional nesting in scripts/Makefile.build. scripts/Makefile.build is run every time Kbuild descends into a sub-directory. So, I want to avoid $(wildcard ...) evaluation where possible although computing $(wildcard ...) is so cheap that it may not make measurable performance difference. 2019-07-09m68k: Don't select ARCH_HAS_DMA_PREP_COHERENT for nommu or coldfireChristoph Hellwig1-1/+1
M68k only provides the arch_dma_prep_coherent symbol when an mmu is enabled and not on the coldfire platform. Fix the Kconfig symbol selection up to match this. 2019-07-01m68k: Implement arch_dma_prep_coherent()Christoph Hellwig1-0/+1
When we remap memory as non-cached, to be used as a DMA coherent buffer, we should writeback all cache and invalidate the cache lines so that we make sure we have a clean slate. 2019-07-01m68k: Use the generic dma coherent remap allocatorChristoph Hellwig1-0/+2
This switches m68k to using common code for the DMA allocations, including potential use of the CMA allocator if configured. Also add a comment where the existing behavior seems to be lacking. Switching to the generic code enables DMA allocations from atomic context, which is required by the DMA API documentation, and also adds various other minor features drivers start relying upon. It also makes sure we have a tested code base for all architectures that require uncached pte bits for coherent DMA allocations. 2019-05-14mm: memblock: make keeping memblock memory opt-in rather than opt-outMike Rapoport1-1/+0
Most architectures do not need the memblock memory after the page allocator is initialized, but only few enable ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK in the arch Kconfig. Replacing ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK with ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK and inverting the logic makes it clear which architectures actually use memblock after system initialization and skips the necessity to add ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK to the architectures that are still missing that option. 2019-04-03locking/rwsem: Remove rwsem-spinlock.c & use rwsem-xadd.c for all archsWaiman Long1-7/+0
Currently, we have two different implementation of rwsem: 1) CONFIG_RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK (rwsem-spinlock.c) 2) CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM (rwsem-xadd.c) As we are going to use a single generic implementation for rwsem-xadd.c and no architecture-specific code will be needed, there is no point in keeping two different implementations of rwsem. In most cases, the performance of rwsem-spinlock.c will be worse. It also doesn't get all the performance tuning and optimizations that had been implemented in rwsem-xadd.c over the years. For simplication, we are going to remove rwsem-spinlock.c and make all architectures use a single implementation of rwsem - rwsem-xadd.c. All references to RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK and RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM in the code are removed. 2019-04-03arch/tlb: Clean up simple architecturesPeter Zijlstra1-0/+1
For the architectures that do not implement their own tlb_flush() but do already use the generic mmu_gather, there are two options: 1) the platform has an efficient flush_tlb_range() and asm-generic/tlb.h doesn't need any overrides at all. 2) the platform lacks an efficient flush_tlb_range() and we select MMU_GATHER_NO_RANGE to minimize full invalidates. Convert all 'simple' architectures to one of these two forms. alpha: has no range invalidate -> 2 arc: already used flush_tlb_range() -> 1 c6x: has no range invalidate -> 2 hexagon: has an efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (flush_tlb_mm() is in fact a full range invalidate, so no need to shoot down everything) m68k: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 microblaze: has no flush_tlb_range() -> 2 mips: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (even though it currently seems to use flush_tlb_mm()) nds32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 nios2: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) openrisc: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) parisc: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 sparc32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 unicore32: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) xtensa: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 Note this also fixes a bug in the existing code for a number platforms. Those platforms that did: tlb_end_vma() -> if (!full_mm) flush_tlb_*() tlb_flush -> if (full_mm) flush_tlb_mm() missed the case of shift_arg_pages(), which doesn't have @fullmm set, nor calls into tlb_*vma(), but still frees page-tables and thus needs an invalidate. The new code handles this by detecting a non-empty range, and either issuing the matching range invalidate or a full invalidate, depending on the capabilities. No change in behavior intended. 2019-02-1932-bit userspace ABI: introduce ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T config optionYury Norov1-0/+1
All new 32-bit architectures should have 64-bit userspace off_t type, but existing architectures has 32-bit ones. To enforce the rule, new config option is added to arch/Kconfig that defaults ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T to be disabled for new 32-bit architectures. All existing 32-bit architectures enable it explicitly. New option affects force_o_largefile() behaviour. Namely, if userspace off_t is 64-bits long, we have no reason to reject user to open big files. Note that even if architectures has only 64-bit off_t in the kernel (arc, c6x, h8300, hexagon, nios2, openrisc, and unicore32), a libc may use 32-bit off_t, and therefore want to limit the file size to 4GB unless specified differently in the open flags. 2018-12-22treewide: surround Kconfig file paths with double quotesMasahiro Yamada1-3/+3
The Kconfig lexer supports special characters such as '.' and '/' in the parameter context. In my understanding, the reason is just to support bare file paths in the source statement. I do not see a good reason to complicate Kconfig for the room of ambiguity. The majority of code already surrounds file paths with double quotes, and it makes sense since file paths are constant string literals. Make it treewide consistent now. All architectures except for sparc64 use the dma-direct code in some form, and even for sparc64 we had the discussion of a direct mapping mode a while ago. In preparation for directly calling the direct mapping code don't bother having it optionally but always build the code in. This is a minor hardship for some powerpc and arm configs that don't pull it in yet (although they should in a relase ot two), and sparc64 which currently doesn't need it at all, but it will reduce the ifdef mess we'd otherwise need significantly. 2018-07-29m68k: switch to MEMBLOCK + NO_BOOTMEMMike Rapoport1-0/+3
In m68k the physical memory is described by [memory_start, memory_end] for !MMU variant and by m68k_memory array of memory ranges for the MMU version. This information is directly use to register the physical memory with memblock. The reserve_bootmem() calls are replaced with memblock_reserve() and the bootmap bitmap allocation is simply dropped. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Patch series "Define CPU_BIG_ENDIAN or warn for inconsistencies", v3. While working on enabling queued rwlock on SPARC, found this following code in include/asm-generic/qrwlock.h which uses CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN to clear a byte. static inline u8 *__qrwlock_write_byte(struct qrwlock *lock) { return (u8 *)lock + 3 * IS_BUILTIN(CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN); } Problem is many of the fixed big endian architectures don't define CPU_BIG_ENDIAN and clears the wrong byte. Define CPU_BIG_ENDIAN for all the fixed big endian architecture to fix it. Also found few more references of this config parameter in drivers/of/base.c drivers/of/fdt.c drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.c drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c Be aware that this may cause regressions if someone has worked-around problems in the above code already. 2017-06-30drivers: dma-mapping: allow dma_common_mmap() for NOMMUVladimir Murzin1-0/+1
Currently, internals of dma_common_mmap() is compiled out if build is done for either NOMMU or target which explicitly says it does not have/want coherent DMA mmap. It turned out that dma_common_mmap() can be handy in NOMMU setup (at least for ARM). This patch converts exitent NOMMU targets to use ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP, thus when CONFIG_MMU is gone from dma_common_mmap() their behaviour stays unchanged. ARM is not converted to ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP because it 1) already has mmap callback which can handle (at some extent) NOMMU 2) already defines dummy pgprot_noncached() for NOMMU build. c6x and frv stay untouched since they already have ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP. 2016-09-26m68k: move CONFIG_FPU set to per-CPU configurationGreg Ungerer1-1/+0
Move the selection of CONFIG_FPU to each CPU type configuration. Currently for m68k we have a global set of CONFIG_FPU based on if CONFIG_MMU is enabled or not. There is at least one CPU family we support (m5441x) that has an MMU but has no FPU hardware. So we need to be able to have CONFIG_MMU set and CONFIG_FPU not set. Whether we build for a CPU with MMU enabled or not doesn't change the fact that it has FPU hardware support. Our current non-MMU builds have never had CONIG_FPU enabled - and in fact the kernel will not compile with that set and CONFIG_MMU not set at the moment. It is easy enough to fix this - but it would involve a structure change to sigcontext.h, and that is a user space exported header (so ABI change). This change makes no configuration visible changes, and all configs end up with the same configuration settings as before. 2015-09-10kexec: split kexec_load syscall from kexec core codeDave Young1-0/+1
There are two kexec load syscalls, kexec_load another and kexec_file_load. kexec_file_load has been splited as kernel/kexec_file.c. In this patch I split kexec_load syscall code to kernel/kexec.c. And add a new kconfig option KEXEC_CORE, so we can disable kexec_load and use kexec_file_load only, or vice verse. The original requirement is from Ted Ts'o, he want kexec kernel signature being checked with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. But kexec-tools use kexec_load syscall can bypass the checking. Vivek Goyal proposed to create a common kconfig option so user can compile in only one syscall for loading kexec kernel. KEXEC/KEXEC_FILE selects KEXEC_CORE so that old config files still work. Because there's general code need CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE, so I updated all the architecture Kconfig with a new option KEXEC_CORE, and let KEXEC selects KEXEC_CORE in arch Kconfig.
