2008-12-13cpumask: make irq_set_affinity() take a const struct cpumaskRusty Russell1-1/+1
Impact: change existing irq_chip API Not much point with gentle transition here: the struct irq_chip's setaffinity method signature needs to change. Fortunately, not widely used code, but hits a few architectures. Note: In irq_select_affinity() I save a temporary in by mangling irq_desc[irq].affinity directly. Ingo, does this break anything? 2008-01-30[SCSI] remove use_sg_chainingJames Bottomley1-1/+0
With the sg table code, every SCSI driver is now either chain capable or broken (or has sg_tablesize set so chaining is never activated), so there's no need to have a check in the host template. Also tidy up the code by moving the scatterlist size defines into the SCSI includes and permit the last entry of the scatterlist pools not to be a power of two. 2007-12-07[IA64] rename _bss to __bss_startBernhard Walle1-1/+2

With the unionfs patch applied I get ERROR: "copy_page" [fs/unionfs/unionfs.ko] undefined! the other architectures (some, at least) export copy_page() so I guess ia64 should also do so. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman1-0/+3
Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-09-01[IA64] Enable early console for Ski simulatorPeter Chubb2-8/+16
This patch cleans up the `enable early console for SKI' patch (471e7a44848f467c9b83adc3463d019d2fa8817f), and 1. potentially allows the gensparse_defconfig to work again. (there are other problems running a generic kernel on Ski) 2. fixes the `console registered twice' problem. 3. Cleans up the code by moving the `extern hpsim_cons' declaration to a new asm/hpsim.h file. Thanks to Jes for comments. 2006-10-02[PATCH] const struct tty_operationsJeff Dike1-1/+1
As part of an SMP cleanliness pass over UML, I consted a bunch of structures in order to not have to document their locking. One of these structures was a struct tty_operations. In order to const it in UML without introducing compiler complaints, the declaration of tty_set_operations needs to be changed, and then all of its callers need to be fixed. This patch declares all struct tty_operations in the tree as const. In all cases, they are static and used only as input to tty_set_operations. As an extra check, I ran an i386 allyesconfig build which produced no extra warnings. 53 drivers are affected. I checked the history of a bunch of them, and in most cases, there have been only a handful of maintenance changes in the last six months. serial_core.c was the busiest one that I looked at.
