2017-06-28arch: remove unused macro/function thread_saved_pc()Tobias Klauser1-5/+0
The only user of thread_saved_pc() in non-arch-specific code was removed in commit 8243d5597793 ("sched/core: Remove pointless printout in sched_show_task()"). Remove the implementations as well. Some architectures use thread_saved_pc() in their arch-specific code. Leave their thread_saved_pc() intact. 2017-05-11uapi: export all headers under uapi directoriesNicolas Dichtel1-17/+0
Regularly, when a new header is created in include/uapi/, the developer forgets to add it in the corresponding Kbuild file. This error is usually detected after the release is out. In fact, all headers under uapi directories should be exported, thus it's useless to have an exhaustive list. After this patch, the following files, which were not exported, are now exported (with make headers_install_all): asm-arc/kvm_para.h asm-arc/ucontext.h asm-blackfin/shmparam.h asm-blackfin/ucontext.h asm-c6x/shmparam.h asm-c6x/ucontext.h asm-cris/kvm_para.h asm-h8300/shmparam.h asm-h8300/ucontext.h asm-hexagon/shmparam.h asm-m32r/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/shmparam.h asm-metag/kvm_para.h asm-metag/shmparam.h asm-metag/ucontext.h asm-mips/hwcap.h asm-mips/reg.h asm-mips/ucontext.h asm-nios2/kvm_para.h asm-nios2/ucontext.h asm-openrisc/shmparam.h asm-parisc/kvm_para.h asm-powerpc/perf_regs.h asm-sh/kvm_para.h asm-sh/ucontext.h asm-tile/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/ucontext.h asm-x86/hwcap2.h asm-xtensa/kvm_para.h drm/armada_drm.h drm/etnaviv_drm.h drm/vgem_drm.h linux/aspeed-lpc-ctrl.h linux/auto_dev-ioctl.h linux/bcache.h linux/btrfs_tree.h linux/can/vxcan.h linux/cifs/cifs_mount.h linux/coresight-stm.h linux/cryptouser.h linux/fsmap.h linux/genwqe/genwqe_card.h linux/hash_info.h linux/kcm.h linux/kcov.h linux/kfd_ioctl.h linux/lightnvm.h linux/module.h linux/nbd-netlink.h linux/nilfs2_api.h linux/nilfs2_ondisk.h linux/nsfs.h linux/pr.h linux/qrtr.h linux/rpmsg.h linux/sched/types.h linux/sed-opal.h linux/smc.h linux/smc_diag.h linux/stm.h linux/switchtec_ioctl.h linux/vfio_ccw.h linux/wil6210_uapi.h rdma/bnxt_re-abi.h Note that I have removed from this list the files which are generated in every exported directories (like .install or .install.cmd). In many of clk_disable() implementations, it is a no-op for a NULL pointer input, but this is one of the exceptions. Making it treewide consistent will allow clock consumers to call clk_disable() without NULL pointer check. 2017-04-14blackfin: time-ts: Set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticksNicolai Stange1-0/+4
In preparation for making the clockevents core NTP correction aware, all clockevent device drivers must set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticks rather than ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns: a clockevent device's rate is going to change dynamically and thus, the ratio of ns to ticks ceases to stay invariant. Make the blackfin arch's clockevent driver initialize these fields properly. This patch alone doesn't introduce any change in functionality as the clockevents core still looks exclusively at the (untouched) ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns. As soon as this has changed, a followup patch will purge the initialization of ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns from this driver. 2017-04-03debug: Fix __bug_table[] in arch linker scriptsPeter Zijlstra1-0/+2
The kbuild test robot reported this build failure on a number of architectures: > make.cross ARCH=arm > lib/lib.a(bug.o): In function `find_bug': > >> lib/bug.c:135: undefined reference to `__start___bug_table' > >> lib/bug.c:135: undefined reference to `__stop___bug_table' Caused by: 19d436268dde ("debug: Add _ONCE() logic to report_bug()") Which moved the BUG_TABLE from RO_DATA_SECTION() to RW_DATA_SECTION(), but a number of architectures don't use RW_DATA_SECTION(), so they ended up with no __bug_table[] ... Ideally all those would use RW_DATA_SECTION() in their linker scripts, but that's for another day. 2017-02-27kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.hLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+1
Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. Nothing too major, the tinydrm and mmu-less support should make writing smaller drivers easier for some of the simpler platforms, and there are a bunch of documentation updates. 2017-02-01sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headersFrederic Weisbecker1-1/+0
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures: * powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y) * s390 And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations. A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally remove include/linux/cputime.h . 2016-11-22ptrace: Don't allow accessing an undumpable mmEric W. Biederman1-2/+2
It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only executables. As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing began to read the target processes mm. In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls. This bug has always existed in Linux. 2016-11-16locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()Christian Borntraeger1-0/+1
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax(). For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. 2016-11-10blackfin: make-bf561/coreb.c explicitly non-modularPaul Gortmaker1-6/+4
The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is: config BF561_COREB bool "Enable Core B loader" ...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone. Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only. Since module_misc_device translates to device_initcall in the non-modular case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit. We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information was (or is now) contained at the top of the file in the comments. 2016-10-19Merge branch 'gup_flag-cleanups'Linus Torvalds1-2/+3
Merge the gup_flags cleanups from Lorenzo Stoakes: "This patch series adjusts functions in the get_user_pages* family such that desired FOLL_* flags are passed as an argument rather than implied by flags. The purpose of this change is to make the use of FOLL_FORCE explicit so it is easier to grep for and clearer to callers that this flag is being used. The use of FOLL_FORCE is an issue as it overrides missing VM_READ/VM_WRITE flags for the VMA whose pages we are reading from/writing to, which can result in surprising behaviour. The patch series came out of the discussion around commit 38e088546522 ("mm: check VMA flags to avoid invalid PROT_NONE NUMA balancing"), which addressed a BUG_ON() being triggered when a page was faulted in with PROT_NONE set but having been overridden by FOLL_FORCE. do_numa_page() was run on the assumption the page _must_ be one marked for NUMA node migration as an actual PROT_NONE page would have been dealt with prior to this code path, however FOLL_FORCE introduced a situation where this assumption did not hold. See https://marc.info/?l=linux-mm&m=147585445805166 for the patch proposal" Additionally, there's a fix for an ancient bug related to FOLL_FORCE and FOLL_WRITE by me. 2016-10-19mm: replace access_process_vm() write parameter with gup_flagsLorenzo Stoakes1-2/+3
This removes the 'write' argument from access_process_vm() and replaces it with 'gup_flags' as use of this function previously silently implied FOLL_FORCE, whereas after this patch callers explicitly pass this flag. We make this explicit as use of FOLL_FORCE can result in surprising behaviour (and hence bugs) within the mm subsystem. 2016-10-07nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpusChris Metcalf1-0/+1
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.9 series: Subsystem improvements: - do away with the last users of the obsolete Kconfig options ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB (the latter always sounded like an item on a wishlist to Santa Claus to me). We can now select GPIOLIB and be done with it, for all archs. After some struggle it even work on UM. Not that it has GPIO, but if it wants to, it can select the library. - continued efforts to make drivers properly either tristate or bool. - introduce a warning for drivers assigning default triggers to their irqchip lines when probed from device tree, so we find and fix these ambigous drivers. It is agreed that in the OF config path, the device tree defines trigger characteristics. - the same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO irqchips. - we introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable" as they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is put to good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview pin control driver. - a new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing. The plan is to add unit tests under tools/* for exercising this device and verify that the kernel code paths are working as they should. - make memory-mapped I/O-drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM. This was implicit all the time, but when people started building UM with allyesconfig or allmodconfig it exploded in their face. - move some stray bits of device tree and ACPI HW description callbacks down into their respective implementation silo. These were causing issues when compiling on !HAS_IOMEM as well, so now eventually UM compiles the GPIOLIB library if it wants to. New drivers: - new driver for the Aspeed GPIO front-end companion to the pin controller merged through the pin control tree. - new driver for the LP873x PMIC GPIO portions. - new driver for Technologic Systems' I2C FPGA GPIO such as TS4900, TS-7970, TS-7990 and TS-4100. - new driver for the Broadcom BCM63xx series including BCM6338 and BCM6345. - new driver for the Intel WhiskeyCove PMIC GPIO. - new driver for the Allwinner AXP209 PMIC GPIO portions. - new driver for Diamond Systems 48 line GPIO-MM, another of these port-mapped I/O expansion cards. - support the STMicroelectronics STMPE1600 variant in the STMPE driver. Driver improvements: - the STMPE driver now supports rising/falling edge detection properly for IRQs. - the PCA954x will now fetch and enable its VCC regulator properly. - major rework of the PCA953x driver with the goal of eventually switching it over to use regmap and thus modernize it even more. - switch the IOP driver to use the generic MMIO GPIO library. - move the ages old HTC EGPIO (extended GPIO) GPIO expander driver over to this subsystem from MFD, achieveing some separation of concerns" * tag 'gpio-v4.9-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio: (81 commits) gpio: add missing static inline gpio: OF: localize some gpiochip init functions gpio: acpi: separation of concerns gpio: OF: separation of concerns gpio: make memory-mapped drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM gpio: stmpe: use BIT() macro gpio: stmpe: forbid unused lines to be mapped as IRQs mfd/gpio: Move HTC GPIO driver to GPIO subsystem gpio: MAINTAINERS: Add an entry for GPIO mockup driver gpio/mockup: add virtual gpio device gpio: Added zynq specific check for special pins on bank zero gpio: axp209: Implement get_direction gpio: aspeed: remove redundant return value check gpio: loongson1: remove redundant return value check ARM: omap2: fix missing include gpio: tc3589x: fix up complaints on unsigned gpio: tc3589x: add .get_direction() and small cleanup gpio: f7188x: use gpiochip_get_data instead of container_of gpio: tps65218: use devm_gpiochip_add_data() for gpio registration gpio: aspeed: fix return value check in aspeed_gpio_probe() ...
