2022-11-25media: visl: add virtual stateless decoder driverDaniel Almeida2-0/+176
A virtual stateless device for stateless uAPI development purposes. This tool's objective is to help the development and testing of userspace applications that use the V4L2 stateless API to decode media. A userspace implementation can use visl to run a decoding loop even when no hardware is available or when the kernel uAPI for the codec has not been upstreamed yet. This can reveal bugs at an early stage. This driver can also trace the contents of the V4L2 controls submitted to it. It can also dump the contents of the vb2 buffers through a debugfs interface. This is in many ways similar to the tracing infrastructure available for other popular encode/decode APIs out there and can help develop a userspace application by using another (working) one as a reference. Note that no actual decoding of video frames is performed by visl. The V4L2 test pattern generator is used to write various debug information to the capture buffers instead. 2022-11-25media: dt-bindings: media: sun6i-a31-csi: Add internal output port to the ISPPaul Kocialkowski1-0/+4
Some Allwinner devices come with an Image Signal Processor (ISP) that allows processing camera data to produce good-looking images, especially from raw bayer representations. The ISP does not have a dedicated capture path: it is fed directly by one of the CSI controllers, which can be selected at run-time. Represent this possibility as a graph connection between the CSI controller and the ISP in the device-tree bindings. The V4L2 API historically allowed buffers to be queued with bytesused set to 0 on output devices, in which case the driver would use the buffer length. This behaviour is deprecated, and videobuf2 prints a warning message in the kernel log. Drop it from the documentation. 2022-11-04media: v4l: Add definition for the Aspeed JPEG formatJammy Huang1-0/+17
This introduces support for the Aspeed JPEG format, where the new frame can refer to previous frame to reduce the amount of compressed data. The concept is similar to I/P frame of video compression. It will compare the new frame with previous one to decide which macroblock's data is changed, and only the changed macroblocks will be compressed. This Aspeed JPEG format is used by the video engine on Aspeed platforms, which is generally adapted for remote KVM. 2022-11-03arm64: cpufeature: Fix the visibility of compat hwcapsAmit Daniel Kachhap1-1/+37
Commit 237405ebef58 ("arm64: cpufeature: Force HWCAP to be based on the sysreg visible to user-space") forced the hwcaps to use sanitised user-space view of the id registers. However, the ID register structures used to select few compat cpufeatures (vfp, crc32, ...) are masked and hence such hwcaps do not appear in /proc/cpuinfo anymore for PER_LINUX32 personality. Add the ID register structures explicitly and set the relevant entry as visible. As these ID registers are now of type visible so make them available in 64-bit userspace by making necessary changes in register emulation logic and documentation. While at it, update the comment for structure ftr_generic_32bits[] which lists the ID register that use it. The existing table was a bit outdated. 3.16 was EOL in 2020. 4.4 was EOL in 2022. 5.10 is new in 2020. 5.15 is new in 2021. We'll see if 6.1 becomes LTS in 2022. Rather than keep this table updated, it does duplicate information from multiple kernel.org pages. Make one less duplication site that needs to be updated and simply refer to the kernel.org page on releases. Some of us gotten used to producing large quantities of peer feedback at work, every 3 or 6 months. Extending the same courtesy to community members seems like a logical step. It may be hard for some folks to get validation of how important their work is internally, especially at smaller companies which don't employ many kernel experts. The concept of "peer feedback" may be a hyperscaler / silicon valley thing so YMMV. Hopefully we can build more context as we go.
