2022-04-27powerpc/boot: Build wrapper for an appropriate CPUJoel Stanley1-2/+6
Currently the boot wrapper lacks a -mcpu option, so it will be built for the toolchain's default cpu. This is a problem if the toolchain defaults to a cpu with newer instructions. We could wire in TARGET_CPU but instead use the oldest supported option so the wrapper runs anywhere. The GCC documentation stays that -mcpu=powerpc64le will give us a generic 64 bit powerpc machine: -mcpu=powerpc, -mcpu=powerpc64, and -mcpu=powerpc64le specify pure 32-bit PowerPC (either endian), 64-bit big endian PowerPC and 64-bit little endian PowerPC architecture machine types, with an appropriate, generic processor model assumed for scheduling purposes. So do that for each of the three machines. 2022-04-26powerpc/fadump: align destination address to pagesizeHari Bathini2-0/+11
On crash, boot memory area is copied to a destination address by f/w. This region is setup as separate PT_LOAD segment with appropriate offset to handle the different physical address and offset in vmcore. If this destination address is not page aligned, reading the vmcore with mmap is likely to fail forcing tools like makedumpfile to fall back to regular read. Avoid mmap read failure by ensuring that the destination address is always page aligned. 2022-04-26powerpc/fadump: fix PT_LOAD segment for boot memory areaHari Bathini1-2/+6
Boot memory area is setup as separate PT_LOAD segment in the vmcore as it is moved by f/w, on crash, to a destination address provided by the kernel. Having separate PT_LOAD segment helps in handling the different physical address and offset for boot memory area in the vmcore. Commit ced1bf52f477 ("powerpc/fadump: merge adjacent memory ranges to reduce PT_LOAD segements") inadvertly broke this pre-condition for cases where some of the first kernel memory is available adjacent to boot memory area. This scenario is rare but possible when memory for fadump could not be reserved adjacent to boot memory area owing to memory hole or such. Reading memory from a vmcore exported in such scenario provides incorrect data. Fix it by ensuring no other region is folded into boot memory area. 2022-04-26powerpc/fadump: save CPU reg data in vmcore when PHYP terminates LPARHari Bathini3-3/+8
An LPAR can be terminated by the POWER Hypervisor (PHYP) for various reasons. If FADump was configured when PHYP terminates the LPAR, platform-assisted dump is initiated to save the kernel dump. But CPU register data would not be processed/saved in the vmcore in such case because CPU mask is set in crash_fadump() at the time of kernel crash and it remains unset in this case with LPAR being terminated by PHYP abruptly. To get around the problem, initialize cpu_mask to cpu_possible_mask so as to ensure all possible CPUs' register data is processed for the vmcore generated on PHYP terminated LPAR. Also, rename the crash info member variable from online_mask to cpu_mask as it doesn't necessarily have to be online CPU mask always. 2022-04-26powerpc/fadump: Fix fadump to work with a different endian capture kernelHari Bathini2-47/+57
Dump capture would fail if capture kernel is not of the endianess as the production kernel, because the in-memory data structure (struct opal_fadump_mem_struct) shared across production kernel and capture kernel assumes the same endianess for both the kernels, which doesn't have to be true always. Fix it by having a well-defined endianess for struct opal_fadump_mem_struct. 2022-04-09perf: arm-spe: Fix perf report --mem-modeJames Clark1-0/+6
Since commit bb30acae4c4dacfa ("perf report: Bail out --mem-mode if mem info is not available") "perf mem report" and "perf report --mem-mode" don't allow opening the file unless one of the events has PERF_SAMPLE_DATA_SRC set. SPE doesn't have this set even though synthetic memory data is generated after it is decoded. Fix this issue by setting DATA_SRC on SPE events. This has no effect on the data collected because the SPE driver doesn't do anything with that flag and doesn't generate samples. 2022-04-09perf unwind: Don't show unwind error messages when augmenting frame pointer ↵James Clark8-14/+32
stack Commit Fixes: b9f6fbb3b2c29736 ("perf arm64: Inject missing frames when using 'perf record --call-graph=fp'") intended to add a 'best effort' DWARF unwind that improved the frame pointer stack in most scenarios. It's expected that the unwind will fail sometimes, but this shouldn't be reported as an error. It only works when the return address can be determined from the contents of the link register alone. Fix the error shown when the unwinder requires extra registers by adding a new flag that suppresses error messages. This flag is not set in the normal --call-graph=dwarf unwind mode so that behavior is not changed. 2022-04-09perf test tsc: Fix error message when not supportedChengdong Li1-9/+27
By default `perf test tsc` does not return the error message when the child process detected kernel does not support it. Instead, the child process prints an error message to stderr, unfortunately stderr is redirected to /dev/null when verbose <= 0. This patch does: - return TEST_SKIP to the parent process instead of TEST_OK when perf_read_tsc_conversion() is not supported. - Add a new subtest of testing if TSC is supported on current architecture by moving exist code to a separate function. It avoids two places in test__perf_time_to_tsc() that return TEST_SKIP by doing this. - Extend the test suite definition to contain above two subtests. Current test_suite and test_case structs do not support printing skip reason when the number of subtest less than 1. To print skip reason, it is necessary to extend current test suite definition. The clang compiler complains about some options even without a source file being available, while others require one, so use the simple tools/build/feature/test-hello.c file. Then check for the "is not supported" string in its output, in addition to the "unknown argument" already being looked for. This was noticed when building with clang-13 where -ffat-lto-objects isn't supported and since we were looking just for "unknown argument" and not providing a source code to clang, was mistakenly assumed as being available and not being filtered to set of command line options provided to clang, leading to a build failure.
