2015-03-26ACPI / processor: Introduce phys_cpuid_t for CPU hardware IDCatalin Marinas6-24/+30
CPU hardware ID (phys_id) is defined as u32 in structure acpi_processor, but phys_id is used as int in acpi processor driver, so it will lead to some inconsistence for the drivers. Furthermore, to cater for ACPI arch ports that implement 64 bits CPU ids a generic CPU physical id type is required. So introduce typedef u32 phys_cpuid_t in a common file, and introduce a macro PHYS_CPUID_INVALID as (phys_cpuid_t)(-1) if it's not defined by other archs, this will solve the inconsistence in acpi processor driver, and will prepare for the ACPI on ARM64 for the 64 bit CPU hardware ID in the following patch. 2015-03-25ARM64 / ACPI: Parse MADT for SMP initializationHanjun Guo7-8/+160
MADT contains the information for MPIDR which is essential for SMP initialization, parse the GIC cpu interface structures to get the MPIDR value and map it to cpu_logical_map(), and add enabled cpu with valid MPIDR into cpu_possible_map. ACPI 5.1 only has two explicit methods to boot up SMP, PSCI and Parking protocol, but the Parking protocol is only specified for ARMv7 now, so make PSCI as the only way for the SMP boot protocol before some updates for the ACPI spec or the Parking protocol spec. Parking protocol patches for SMP boot will be sent to upstream when the new version of Parking protocol is ready. 2015-03-25ARM64 / ACPI: Get PSCI flags in FADT for PSCI initGraeme Gregory4-28/+76
There are two flags: PSCI_COMPLIANT and PSCI_USE_HVC. When set, the former signals to the OS that the firmware is PSCI compliant. The latter selects the appropriate conduit for PSCI calls by toggling between Hypervisor Calls (HVC) and Secure Monitor Calls (SMC). FADT table contains such information in ACPI 5.1, FADT table was parsed in ACPI table init and copy to struct acpi_gbl_FADT, so use the flags in struct acpi_gbl_FADT for PSCI init. Since ACPI 5.1 doesn't support self defined PSCI function IDs, which means that only PSCI 0.2+ is supported in ACPI. 2015-03-25ARM64 / ACPI: Introduce PCI stub functions for ACPIHanjun Guo2-0/+31
CONFIG_ACPI depends CONFIG_PCI on x86 and ia64, in ARM64 server world we will have PCIe in most cases, but some of them may not, make CONFIG_ACPI depend CONFIG_PCI on ARM64 will satisfy both. With that case, we need some arch dependent PCI functions to access the config space before the PCI root bridge is created, and pci_acpi_scan_root() to create the PCI root bus. So introduce some stub function here to make ACPI core compile and revisit them later when implemented on ARM64. 2015-03-25ACPI / sleep: Introduce CONFIG_ACPI_SYSTEM_POWER_STATES_SUPPORTGraeme Gregory5-1/+11
ACPI 5.1 does not currently support S states for ARM64 hardware but ACPI code will call acpi_target_system_state() and acpi_sleep_init() for device power management, so introduce CONFIG_ACPI_SYSTEM_POWER_STATES_SUPPORT and select it for x86 and ia64 only to make sleep functions available, and also introduce stub function to allow other drivers to function until S states are defined for ARM64. 2015-03-25ACPI: fix acpi_os_ioremap for arm64Mark Salter2-0/+17
The acpi_os_ioremap() function may be used to map normal RAM or IO regions. The current implementation simply uses ioremap_cache(). This will work for some architectures, but arm64 ioremap_cache() cannot be used to map IO regions which don't support caching. So for arm64, use ioremap() for non-RAM regions. 2015-03-25ARM64 / ACPI: Get RSDP and ACPI boot-time tablesAl Stone5-0/+170
As we want to get ACPI tables to parse and then use the information for system initialization, we should get the RSDP (Root System Description Pointer) first, it then locates Extended Root Description Table (XSDT) which contains all the 64-bit physical address that pointer to other boot-time tables. Introduce acpi.c and its related head file in this patch to provide fundamental needs of extern variables and functions for ACPI core, and then get boot-time tables as needed. - asm/acenv.h for arch specific ACPICA environments and implementation, It is needed unconditionally by ACPI core; - asm/acpi.h for arch specific variables and functions needed by ACPI driver core; - acpi.c for ARM64 related ACPI implementation for ACPI driver core; acpi_boot_table_init() is introduced to get RSDP and boot-time tables, it will be called in setup_arch() before paging_init(), so we should use eary_memremap() mechanism here to get the RSDP and all the table pointers. FADT Major.Minor version was introduced in ACPI 5.1, it is the same as ACPI version. In ACPI 5.1, some major gaps are fixed for ARM, such as updates in MADT table for GIC and SMP init, without those updates, we can not get the MPIDR for SMP init, and GICv2/3 related init information, so we can't boot arm64 ACPI properly with table versions predating 5.1. If firmware provides ACPI tables with ACPI version less than 5.1, OS has no way to retrieve the configuration data that is necessary to init SMP boot protocol and the GIC properly, so disable ACPI if we get an FADT table with version less that 5.1 when acpi_boot_table_init() called. 2015-03-25ARM64: allow late use of early_ioremapMark Salter1-0/+3
Commit 0e63ea48b4d8 (arm64/efi: add missing call to early_ioremap_reset()) added a missing call to early_ioremap_reset(). This triggers a BUG if code tries using early_ioremap() after the early_ioremap_reset(). This is a problem for some ACPI code which needs short-lived temporary mappings after paging_init() but before acpi_early_init() in start_kernel(). This patch adds definitions for the __late_set_fixmap() and __late_clear_fixmap() which avoids the BUG by allowing later use of early_ioremap(). 2015-03-25ACPI / table: Use pr_debug() instead of pr_info() for MADT table scanningHanjun Guo1-14/+16
For a normal 8 cpu sockets system, it will up to 240 cpu threads (Xeon E7 v2 family for now), and we need 240 entries for local apic or local x2apic in MADT table, so it will be much verbose information printed with a slow uart console when system booted, this will be even worse with large system with 16/32 cpu sockets. This patch just use pr_debug() instead of pr_info() for ioapic/iosapic, local apic/x2apic/sapic structures when scanning the MADT table to remove those verbose information, but leave other structures unchanged. The ARM architecture allows the caching of intermediate page table levels and page table freeing requires a sequence like: pmd_clear() TLB invalidation pte page freeing With commit 5e5f6dc10546 (arm64: mm: enable HAVE_RCU_TABLE_FREE logic), the page table freeing batching was moved from tlb_remove_page() to tlb_remove_table(). The former takes care of TLB invalidation as this is also shared with pte clearing and page cache page freeing. The latter, however, does not invalidate the TLBs for intermediate page table levels as it probably relies on the architecture code to do it if required. When the mm->mm_users < 2, tlb_remove_table() does not do any batching and page table pages are freed before tlb_finish_mmu() which performs the actual TLB invalidation. This patch introduces __tlb_flush_pgtable() for arm64 and calls it from the {pte,pmd,pud}_free_tlb() directly without relying on deferred page table freeing. 2015-03-13ALSA: hda - Don't access stereo amps for mono channel widgetsTakashi Iwai1-8/+22
The current HDA generic parser initializes / modifies the amp values always in stereo, but this seems causing the problem on ALC3229 codec that has a few mono channel widgets: namely, these mono widgets react to actions for both channels equally. In the driver code, we do care the mono channel and create a control only for the left channel (as defined in HD-audio spec) for such a node. When the control is updated, only the left channel value is changed. However, in the resume, the right channel value is also restored from the initial value we took as stereo, and this overwrites the left channel value. This ends up being the silent output as the right channel has been never touched and remains muted. This patch covers the places where unconditional stereo amp accesses are done and converts to the conditional accesses. 2015-03-12mm: reorder can_do_mlock to fix audit denialJeff Vander Stoep1-2/+2
A userspace call to mmap(MAP_LOCKED) may result in the successful locking of memory while also producing a confusing audit log denial. can_do_mlock checks capable and rlimit. If either of these return positive can_do_mlock returns true. The capable check leads to an LSM hook used by apparmour and selinux which produce the audit denial. Reordering so rlimit is checked first eliminates the denial on success, only recording a denial when the lock is unsuccessful as a result of the denial. Current approach in handling shadow memory for modules is broken. Shadow memory could be freed only after memory shadow corresponds it is no longer used. vfree() called from interrupt context could use memory its freeing to store 'struct llist_node' in it: void vfree(const void *addr) { ... if (unlikely(in_interrupt())) { struct vfree_deferred *p = this_cpu_ptr(&vfree_deferred); if (llist_add((struct llist_node *)addr, &p->list)) schedule_work(&p->wq); Later this list node used in free_work() which actually frees memory. Currently module_memfree() called in interrupt context will free shadow before freeing module's memory which could provoke kernel crash. So shadow memory should be freed after module's memory. However, such deallocation order could race with kasan_module_alloc() in module_alloc(). Free shadow right before releasing vm area. At this point vfree()'d memory is not used anymore and yet not available for other allocations. New VM_KASAN flag used to indicate that vm area has dynamically allocated shadow memory so kasan frees shadow only if it was previously allocated. With FAN_ONDIR set, the user can end up getting events, which it hasn't marked. This was revealed with fanotify04 testcase failure on Linux-4.0-rc1, and is a regression from 3.19, revealed with 66ba93c0d7fe6 ("fanotify: don't set FAN_ONDIR implicitly on a marks ignored mask"). # /opt/ltp/testcases/bin/fanotify04 [ ... ] fanotify04 7 TPASS : event generated properly for type 100000 fanotify04 8 TFAIL : fanotify04.c:147: got unexpected event 30 fanotify04 9 TPASS : No event as expected The testcase sets the adds the following marks : FAN_OPEN | FAN_ONDIR for a fanotify on a dir. Then does an open(), followed by close() of the directory and expects to see an event FAN_OPEN(0x20). However, the fanotify returns (FAN_OPEN|FAN_CLOSE_NOWRITE(0x10)). This happens due to the flaw in the check for event_mask in fanotify_should_send_event() which does: if (event_mask & marks_mask & ~marks_ignored_mask) return true; where, event_mask == (FAN_ONDIR | FAN_CLOSE_NOWRITE), marks_mask == (FAN_ONDIR | FAN_OPEN), marks_ignored_mask == 0 Fix this by masking the outgoing events to the user, as we already take care of FAN_ONDIR and FAN_EVENT_ON_CHILD. According to a report from Yuxuan Shui, nilfs2 in kernel 3.19 got stuck during recovery at mount time. The code path that caused the deadlock was as follows: nilfs_fill_super() load_nilfs() nilfs_salvage_orphan_logs() * Do roll-forwarding, attach segment constructor for recovery, and kick it. nilfs_segctor_thread() nilfs_segctor_thread_construct() * A lock is held with nilfs_transaction_lock() nilfs_segctor_do_construct() nilfs_segctor_drop_written_files() iput() iput_final() write_inode_now() writeback_single_inode() __writeback_single_inode() do_writepages() nilfs_writepage() nilfs_construct_dsync_segment() nilfs_transaction_lock() --> deadlock This can happen if commit 7ef3ff2fea8b ("nilfs2: fix deadlock of segment constructor over I_SYNC flag") is applied and roll-forward recovery was performed at mount time. The roll-forward recovery can happen if datasync write is done and the file system crashes immediately after that. For instance, we can reproduce the issue with the following steps: < nilfs2 is mounted on /nilfs (device: /dev/sdb1) > # dd if=/dev/zero of=/nilfs/test bs=4k count=1 && sync # dd if=/dev/zero of=/nilfs/test conv=notrunc oflag=dsync bs=4k count=1 && reboot -nfh < the system will immediately reboot > # mount -t nilfs2 /dev/sdb1 /nilfs The deadlock occurs because iput() can run segment constructor through writeback_single_inode() if MS_ACTIVE flag is not set on sb->s_flags. The above commit changed segment constructor so that it calls iput() asynchronously for inodes with i_nlink == 0, but that change was imperfect. This fixes the another deadlock by deferring iput() in segment constructor even for the case that mount is not finished, that is, for the case that MS_ACTIVE flag is not set. 2015-03-12mm: cma: fix CMA aligned offset calculationDanesh Petigara1-5/+7
The CMA aligned offset calculation is incorrect for non-zero order_per_bit values. For example, if cma->order_per_bit=1, cma->base_pfn= 0x2f800000 and align_order=12, the function returns a value of 0x17c00 instead of 0x400. This patch fixes the CMA aligned offset calculation. The previous calculation was wrong and would return too-large values for the offset, so that when cma_alloc looks for free pages in the bitmap with the requested alignment > order_per_bit, it starts too far into the bitmap and so CMA allocations will fail despite there actually being plenty of free pages remaining. It will also probably have the wrong alignment. With this change, we will get the correct offset into the bitmap. One affected user is powerpc KVM, which has kvm_cma->order_per_bit set to KVM_CMA_CHUNK_ORDER - PAGE_SHIFT, or 18 - 12 = 6.
