2022-05-09fs: Convert block_read_full_page() to block_read_full_folio()Matthew Wilcox (Oracle)1-3/+3
This function is NOT converted to handle large folios, so include an assert that the filesystem isn't passing one in. Otherwise, use the folio functions instead of the page functions, where they exist. Convert all filesystems which use block_read_full_page(). 2021-01-24fs: make helpers idmap mount awareChristian Brauner1-1/+2
Extend some inode methods with an additional user namespace argument. A filesystem that is aware of idmapped mounts will receive the user namespace the mount has been marked with. This can be used for additional permission checking and also to enable filesystems to translate between uids and gids if they need to. We have implemented all relevant helpers in earlier patches. As requested we simply extend the exisiting inode method instead of introducing new ones. This is a little more code churn but it's mostly mechanical and doesnt't leave us with additional inode methods. 2021-01-24attr: handle idmapped mountsChristian Brauner1-1/+1
When file attributes are changed most filesystems rely on the setattr_prepare(), setattr_copy(), and notify_change() helpers for initialization and permission checking. Let them handle idmapped mounts. If the inode is accessed through an idmapped mount map it into the mount's user namespace. Afterwards the checks are identical to non-idmapped mounts. If the initial user namespace is passed nothing changes so non-idmapped mounts will see identical behavior as before. Helpers that perform checks on the ia_uid and ia_gid fields in struct iattr assume that ia_uid and ia_gid are intended values and have already been mapped correctly at the userspace-kernelspace boundary as we already do today. If the initial user namespace is passed nothing changes so non-idmapped mounts will see identical behavior as before. 2019-06-26fs/adfs: clean up indirect disc addresses and fragment IDsRussell King1-2/+2
We use a variety of different names for the indirect disc address of the current object, use a variety of different types, and print it in a variety of different ways. Bring some consistency to this by naming it "indaddr", use u32 or __u32 as the type since it fits in 32-bits, and always print it with %06x (with no leading hex prefix.) When printing it was a directory identifer, use "dir %06x" otherwise use "object %06x". Do the same for fragment IDs and the parent indirect disc addresses. 2018-06-05vfs: change inode times to use struct timespec64Deepa Dinamani1-2/+5
struct timespec is not y2038 safe. Transition vfs to use y2038 safe struct timespec64 instead. The change was made with the help of the following cocinelle script. This catches about 80% of the changes. All the header file and logic changes are included in the first 5 rules. The rest are trivial substitutions. I avoid changing any of the function signatures or any other filesystem specific data structures to keep the patch simple for review. The script can be a little shorter by combining different cases. 2016-09-27fs: Replace CURRENT_TIME with current_time() for inode timestampsDeepa Dinamani1-1/+1
CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps. Use current_time() instead. CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe. This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also, current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be y2038 safe. Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they share the same time granularity. 2011-03-22adfs: add hexadecimal filetype suffix optionStuart Swales1-18/+4
ADFS (FileCore) storage complies with the RISC OS filetype specification (12 bits of file type information is stored in the file load address, rather than using a file extension). The existing driver largely ignores this information and does not present it to the end user. It is desirable that stored filetypes be made visible to the end user to facilitate a precise copy of data and metadata from a hard disc (or image thereof) into a RISC OS emulator (such as RPCEmu) or to a network share which can be accessed by real Acorn systems. This patch implements a per-mount filetype suffix option (use -o ftsuffix=1) to present any filetype as a ,xyz hexadecimal suffix on each file. 2011-03-22adfs: improve timestamp precisionStuart Swales1-21/+19
ADFS (FileCore) storage complies with the RISC OS timestamp specification (40-bit centiseconds since 01 Jan 1900 00:00:00). It is desirable that stored timestamp precision be maintained to facilitate a precise copy of data and metadata from a hard disc (or image thereof) into a RISC OS emulator (such as RPCEmu). This patch implements a full-precision conversion from ADFS to Unix timestamp as the existing driver, for ease of calculation with old 32-bit compilers, uses the common trick of shifting the 40-bits representing centiseconds around into 32-bits representing seconds thereby losing precision. 2011-03-10block: remove per-queue pluggingJens Axboe1-1/+0
Code has been converted over to the new explicit on-stack plugging, and delay users have been converted to use the new API for that. So lets kill off the old plugging along with aops->sync_page(). Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jaxboe@fusionio.com>
2011-03-02adfs: remove the big kernel lockArnd Bergmann1-6/+0
According to Russell King, adfs was written to not require the big kernel lock, and all inode updates are done under adfs_dir_lock. All other metadata in adfs is read-only and does not require locking. The use of the BKL is the result of various pushdowns from the VFS operations. 2010-08-09check ATTR_SIZE contraints in inode_change_okChristoph Hellwig1-4/+1
Make sure we check the truncate constraints early on in ->setattr by adding those checks to inode_change_ok. Also clean up and document inode_change_ok to make this obvious. As a fallout we don't have to call inode_newsize_ok from simple_setsize and simplify it down to a truncate_setsize which doesn't return an error. This simplifies a lot of setattr implementations and means we use truncate_setsize almost everywhere. Get rid of fat_setsize now that it's trivial and mark ext2_setsize static to make the calling convention obvious. Keep the inode_newsize_ok in vmtruncate for now as all callers need an audit for its removal anyway. Note: setattr code in ecryptfs doesn't call inode_change_ok at all and needs a deeper audit, but that is left for later. 2010-08-09get rid of cont_write_begin_newtruncChristoph Hellwig1-1/+10
Move the call to vmtruncate to get rid of accessive blocks to the callers in preparation of the new truncate sequence and rename the non-truncating version to cont_write_begin. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2010-05-27kill spurious reference to vmtruncatenpiggin@suse.de1-1/+2
Lots of filesystems calls vmtruncate despite not implementing the old ->truncate method. Switch them to use simple_setsize and add some comments about the truncate code where it seems fitting. 2010-03-05pass writeback_control to ->write_inodeChristoph Hellwig1-2/+3
This gives the filesystem more information about the writeback that is happening. Trond requested this for the NFS unstable write handling, and other filesystems might benefit from this too by beeing able to distinguish between the different callers in more detail. 2006-09-27[PATCH] inode-diet: Eliminate i_blksize from the inode structureTheodore Ts'o1-1/+0
This eliminates the i_blksize field from struct inode. Filesystems that want to provide a per-inode st_blksize can do so by providing their own getattr routine instead of using the generic_fillattr() function. Note that some filesystems were providing pretty much random (and incorrect) values for i_blksize. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds1-0/+395
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
