2022-05-06drm/nouveau: Fix a potential theorical leak in nouveau_get_backlight_name()Christophe JAILLET1-4/+5
If successful ida_simple_get() calls are not undone when needed, some additional memory may be allocated and wasted. Here, an ID between 0 and MAX_INT is required. If this ID is >=100, it is not taken into account and is wasted. It should be released. Instead of calling ida_simple_remove(), take advantage of the 'max' parameter to require the ID not to be too big. Should it be too big, it is not allocated and don't need to be freed. While at it, use ida_alloc_xxx()/ida_free() instead to ida_simple_get()/ida_simple_remove(). The latter is deprecated and more verbose. 2022-05-04drm/nouveau/subdev/bus: Ratelimit logging for fault errorsLyude Paul4-13/+15
There's plenty of ways to fudge the GPU when developing on nouveau by mistake, some of which can result in nouveau seriously spamming dmesg with fault errors. This can be somewhat annoying, as it can quickly overrun the message buffer (or your terminal emulator's buffer) and get rid of actually useful feedback from the driver. While working on my new atomic only MST branch, I ran into this issue a couple of times. So, let's fix this by adding nvkm_error_ratelimited(), and using it to ratelimit errors from faults. This should be fine for developers, since it's nearly always only the first few faults that we care about seeing. Plus, you can turn off rate limiting in the kernel if you really need to. SCDC is the Status and Control Data Channel for HDMI. Move the SCDC helpers into display/ and split the header into files for core and helpers. Update all affected drivers. No functional changes. To avoid the proliferation of Kconfig options, SCDC is part of DRM's support for HDMI. If necessary, a new option could make SCDC an independent feature. 2022-04-25drm/display: Introduce a DRM display-helper moduleThomas Zimmermann1-1/+2
Replace the DP-helper module with a display-helper module. The support for DisplayPort becomes an internal option that drivers have to select. Update all related Kconfig and Makefile rules. Besides the existing code for DisplayPort, the new module will contain helpers for other video-output standards, such as HDMI. Drivers will have to select their required video-output helpers. Linking all display-related code into a single module avoids the proliferation of small kernel modules. Rename dp/ to display/ to account for additional display-related helpers, such as HDMI. Update all related include statements. No functional changes. Various drivers, such as i915 and amdgpu, use similar naming scheme by putting code for video-output standards into a local display/ directory. 2022-04-07dma-buf: add enum dma_resv_usage v4Christian König4-9/+13
This change adds the dma_resv_usage enum and allows us to specify why a dma_resv object is queried for its containing fences. Additional to that a dma_resv_usage_rw() helper function is added to aid retrieving the fences for a read or write userspace submission. This is then deployed to the different query functions of the dma_resv object and all of their users. 2022-04-04drm/nouveau/clk: Fix an incorrect NULL check on list iteratorXiaomeng Tong1-2/+4
The bug is here: if (nvkm_cstate_valid(clk, cstate, max_volt, clk->temp)) return cstate; The list iterator value 'cstate' will *always* be set and non-NULL by list_for_each_entry_from_reverse(), so it is incorrect to assume that the iterator value will be unchanged if the list is empty or no element is found (In fact, it will be a bogus pointer to an invalid structure object containing the HEAD). Also it missed a NULL check at callsite and may lead to invalid memory access after that. To fix this bug, just return 'encoder' when found, otherwise return NULL. And add the NULL check. 2022-03-03mm: remove the extra ZONE_DEVICE struct page refcountChristoph Hellwig1-1/+0
ZONE_DEVICE struct pages have an extra reference count that complicates the code for put_page() and several places in the kernel that need to check the reference count to see that a page is not being used (gup, compaction, migration, etc.). Clean up the code so the reference count doesn't need to be treated specially for ZONE_DEVICE pages. Note that this excludes the special idle page wakeup for fsdax pages, which still happens at refcount 1. This is a separate issue and will be sorted out later. Given that only fsdax pages require the notifiacation when the refcount hits 1 now, the PAGEMAP_OPS Kconfig symbol can go away and be replaced with a FS_DAX check for this hook in the put_page fastpath. The nouveau KMS driver will call drm_plane_create_zpos_property() with an init value depending on the plane purpose. Since the initial value wasn't carried over in the state, the driver had to set it again in nv50_wndw_reset(). There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2]. 2022-02-08drm/nouveau/backlight: Just set all backlight types as RAWLyude Paul1-2/+1
Currently we can get a warning on systems with eDP backlights like so: nv_backlight: invalid backlight type WARNING: CPU: 4 PID: 454 at drivers/video/backlight/backlight.c:420 backlight_device_register+0x226/0x250 This happens as a result of us not filling out props.type for the eDP backlight, even though we do it for all other backlight types. Since nothing in our driver uses anything but BACKLIGHT_RAW, let's take the props\.type assignments out of the codepaths for individual backlight types and just set it unconditionally to prevent this from happening again. 2022-02-08drm/nouveau/backlight: Fix LVDS backlight detection on some laptopsLyude Paul1-1/+2
It seems that some laptops will report having both an eDP and LVDS connector, even though only the LVDS connector is actually hooked up. This can lead to issues with backlight registration if the eDP connector ends up getting registered before the LVDS connector, as the backlight device will then be registered to the eDP connector instead of the LVDS connector. So, fix this by only registering the backlight on connectors that are reported as being connected. linux/string_helpers.h provides a helper to return "yes"/"no" strings. Replace the open coded versions with str_yes_no(). The places were identified with the following semantic patch: @@ expression b; @@ - b ? "yes" : "no" + str_yes_no(b) Then the includes were added, so we include-what-we-use, and parenthesis adjusted in drivers/gpu/drm/v3d/v3d_debugfs.c.
